Story

The high court of Faerie is in utter chaos. Anarchy in the Unseelie Court has taken over entirely following the assassination of Queen Morvak, and the resignation of King Corvenus. The Seelie Court is barely holding its own, and darkness is bleeding into the side of Faerie that is called “the glimmering throng.” Lorina Tines, the late queen’s best assassin – and the queen’s murderer herself – has fled the court, with her lover Marius LaFowle. They are presumably in hiding somewhere in the west of the United States, away from the Haven that housed a part of the Unseelie Court where the queen was murdered.

This is a time following a series of murders while the sluagh – all that was too foul to exist in even the Unseelie Court – rampaged through the Haven – and even further – trying to find Marius LaFowle for his deserved execution. Now that the murders have been solved, the court still exists in a state of disarray. How is are the fey supposed to survive in these trying times?

The Setting

Illinois is the home of the Seelie and Unseelie mounds, as well as other courts of fey. The vast expanses of barren land are perfect hiding places for mystical creatures that wish to remain unseen. Some of the fey favor westward travel - preferably San Francisco - and not all storylines will be connected at once. Some may start off in the home state of the mounds, and some may start off out in the western lands, favored by those who want to remain in hiding.

The Races

The Fey

The Sidhe – The sidhe are the purest of they fey, with unnatural, ethereal beauty. They exist in both the Seelie and the Unseelie court. They are considered faerie’s elite.

Fairies – Humanoid in appearance, with some altered physical traits, the fairies don’t have wings as children’s tales dictates. They are skilled with magic, and exist within the Seelie and Unseelie courts.

The Demi-fey – The demi-fey are about the size of butterflies, but they are not as sweet. Exclusive to the Unseelie court, the demi-fey are led by the bloodthirsty Queen Niceven. They vary in color, but all about the size of a human thumb.

Goblins – Generally ugly to the other fey, goblins are generally grayish in skin tone. Extra limbs are prized among this species. Cross-breeding is not unusual with other species, but it is frowned upon. The goblins are neutral to the Seelie and Unseelie court; they try not to get involved in political intrigue.

The Sluagh – The sluagh are the things that nightmares prize as beauteous and enthralling. These monstrosities haunt the corners of your bedroom on the darkest, stormiest nights, stalking your most pleasurable dreams and turning them into the most twisted, sickening nightmares.

Glamour

All of the fey have the ability to use glamour, or light magic. This can be used to alter physical things about themselves, or their surroundings, to succeptable eyes. It can also make painful occurences feel utterly pleasureful.

The Rules

-Literacy is a must. Absolutely no chatspeak, and no one-liners. I understand the occassional writer's block, but please do not use that as an excuse every time.

-PG-16. This means no cyber. Romance? Fine. But please, no one wants to read smut on an all-ages website. There are books for that. Also, no sailor-talk. Keep language reasonable.

-Absolutely no discrimination outside the RP. I will not tolerate it. If it is among the races, then fine, but I'm talking religious aspects or sexual orientation. No flaming because of the lifestyle someone chooses for their character.

-No god-modding. This means you cannot control other people's characters, even if they are inactive. If you are associating with their character, and they suddenly don't get on for days at a time, just restart your character in some way where you can continue to RP on your own.

-Post as often as possible. I've been having problems with this lately, because real life gets in the way. I understand. But if something comes up and you KNOW you will be on hiatus for a period of time, please announce it. PM me your profile with the subject "High Court"

-I will admit it now - I have not been the best at keeping up with RPs lately. Feel free to ask for updates, because I probably will.

-As usual, follow Gaia's terms of service.

-No vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc.; this is simply a faerie RP

-You may use first or third person; it doesn't matter to me.

-----

A Note:

This RP is derived from ideas and some characters from a story I am currently working on, as well as ideas and characters from Laurell K. Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series. You do not have to know any special background about either my story nor Hamilton's to participate in this RP. Obviously, people are not going to know of mine.
