Phex, an adolescent Akita mix lay under the low hanging branches of a fir tree. He quietly observed his territory, it was silent as the snow fell softly to the already covered ground, his ears flicking back to occasional sounds. Phex's owner, Auren Varss was inside cooking and had let him outside for awhile so that he wouldn't be underfoot. Looking up he could see her face in the window, making sure he wasn't getting into trouble. Phex watched her with a deep respectfulness toward Auren. She was a strong leader to him and didn't let him get away with destructive things. Instead she worked on obedience with him and took him to new places, giving him something to do.

The pair lived in the mountains were it was cooler all year 'round. The house was small, but very cozy. The backyard was fenced, though Auren owned more land than that. But, to let Phex wander... that would not be good. He would cause trouble, she knew, so he got to run free in the backyard only.

Shaking the snow off his coat, Phex trotted around the perimeter with his nose in the air, when he caught a whiff of... another dog?

(( Works for me! ^w^)

Neylie was wandering around the mountain side forest, enjoying the scenery ans she usually did when there wasn't a storm. She stood out, her unnaturally green fur contrasted with the pure white of the snow. Not that she really minded. There was no need to blend in. The forest was a peaceful one; not many predators were around, and hunting wasn't nessicary. Neylie lived in the forest, but there was a kindly old couple who lived at the base of the mountain. They left food for her in a little blue bowl.
Neylie ambled about until she came across something she'd never seen before. Thick planks of wood were set up in a large rectangular formation. What have we here? A fence? Never noticed this before....And is that a male dog I smell on the other side? Curiosity took it's course, and the long-hair gave a greeting bark to whomever was on the opposite side.

Now that Phex knew someone was out there, he felt somewhat embarrassed. Being the type of dog he was, a pet... while this dog was a free roamer. But, Auren need my protection, my company, he thought, his dark eyes still searching for the owner which the resounding bark belonged. Phex did not return the female's greeting; though it was not because he was feeling unfriendly towards her, but the knowledge that if he were to reply Auren would know something was up and that was the opposite of what Phex wanted.

A winter wind whistled through the treetops, blowing a parade of snowflakes in a downwards spiral toward the Akita, whose long coat rippled as the breeze caressed his fur. When the flurry cleared a green form appeared to be moving steadily closer. Unsure as to how to greet her, Phex turned to get a better look through the wooden slats of fence to see her. There must be someway out of this.

Neylie waited for a reply, but got none. Strange. Maybe I scared him... In any case, I'm getting bored. Hm....Now how can I get in there? She thought, until an idea struck her. She put her snout to the ground and started digging up against the fence. She had no idea how big the other dog was, so she only dug a whole big enough for her own body. It took a few moments, but in the end, she was satisfied with her work. Perfect! Neylie then wriggled her way under the fence to the other side.

Watching curiously, Phex poked his nose down a little bit into the hole just as the mysterious female began to crawl underneath the fence. He scrambled backwards, almost nose to nose with her. Embarrassment gripped him, but he rained his composure quickly and sat down in front of the green dog, giving her a funny looking half smile that made Phex seem all the more adolescent in his countenance.

As she made her way under the fence Neylie came nose to nose with a handsome looking Akita male. He had dark brown markings across his back and his entire face. He smiled at her, looking so innocent and curiouse. Neylie giggled. "Why hello there. I hope I'm not intruding. I can see that you live here. I was just wandering around, and I'd never seen this place before, so I decided to take a look around. You don't mind do you?" Pausing, she decided to add, "Oh, my name's Neylie by the way."

Flecia sniffed around looking at the drops of tiny flakes fall from the clouds. Her eyes kept searching everywhere for Amphion who was running around being anxious to roam around. Her and a house pet Butterscotch enjoyed roaming around for a while. Although Amphion is aodrable you can still lose him fast. She sniffed around for the scent of the small pup when she heard noises from a backyard. Her little furry head twisted to the side not knowing what the noise was. Once the blue and white Collie finally picked up the scent she walked over to a hole that if she wriggled right she could fit in. She found herself inside a backyard with an adolescent and a Aussie. "Have you seen a small Jack Russell pup wandering around have you?" She felt a little embarrased when she saw that they were talking and she pretty much ruined there conversation.

Standing up, Phex replied, "Names Phex. It's a pleasure to meet you, Neylie." He gave her a charming smile that exposed his pearly teeth. "Well, technically you're intruding, but since you seem safe enough I won't alert Auren. Though, if you don't want to be caught, I'd go over behind those pine trees in the corner." Then looking down at the hole that was dug, he was impressed at the supreme job Neylie had done, digging through the frozen ground and the pile of snow. Though she had bright green fur, he liked her personality. She seemed easy-going and fun. Speaking of fun, he thought. I could use some more dog fun.

He angled his body away from the fence and was about to fill up the hole when a blue colored collie dog poked her head through. "What is the world coming to?" Phex growled under his breath. "Green longhairs, blue collies. Both happen to show up in my yard." Calming down, he observed the female. She had white tear-like markings under her eyes, and a dapple-ish pattern around her chest ruff, ears, above her nose and the tip of her tail, which gave the impression that snow had fallen lightly on her, but made a permanent residence. "No, I have not see a Jack Russel, but I don't think I'd be so suprised to see one soon. Now, are you going in or going out? I need to fill this hole before Auren sees it." Phex shook his fur impatiently as he awaited the collie's decision.

Flecia looked at the group as he replied to the other. When he said the rude comment she grunted and looked down at the dog. She was an outsider already and giving her attitude was just plain rude. "Oh well sorry for barging in, im a worried...whatever i am to Amphion and if you want me to leave then fine!" she grunted and said that in a very rude manner. She knows how to fight and she learned from the best. As she felt the snow touch her fur she nipped at it then crawled through the whole kicking snow in Phex's face. "And thats why i dont want a owner," she mumbled to herself feeling so angry at his comments.

With morality tugging at him, Phex let out a sigh. "Wait." he said, then thought, I have no need to make enemies with the first dogs I meet. Looking down at his feet he took at deep breath closed his eyes for a moment then crawled through the hole after the collie. "I didn't mean to be so rude. And I mean to make amends with you, so-" Phex hated being wrong or at fault, but if he wanted to make things right he had to do what he knew was right- ask forgiveness. Gritting his teeth Phex looked at her and said, "I'm sorry, forgive me?" After a moment he felt a bit of relief in saying those words and an apologetic smile graced his handsome face.

When Flecia heard those words 'wait' like they are demanding something she just gritted her teeth then turned her head slightly looking at the dog. "Did I make the hole bigger or something?" She looked back at the apologetic face he made and sighed "Well I guess I can say I forgive you." she smiled at him and walked over to the gate not going under the hole. "So how can you be so surrounded in this house. I mean you have nothing to do, no rabbits to eat, there delicious!" She smiled and chuckled at him not knowing what else to do.

Hmmm...His reaction to me when I came was much less hostile. Just I just have that air of likeablity! She smiled at Phex. He was quite the gentlemen. "The pleasure's all mine Phex." She turned and looked at the blue female with an analyzing eye. She a bit...defensive. And how the heck did I not hear her coming if she was clearly so close by? "I've yet to see a puppy up in these parts. And I've never seen you before either. What is your name?" Neylie asked, addressing the female.

She waited for Phex to reply and then forgot all about the femme behind him. Her fur was a very pop outy green with her blackish grayish stripes on its back. She smiled at the femme as the femme replied in a very soft tone. "Oh yeah I understand how weird it would be if a pup came to these parts. But actually hes very curious and he'll travel anywhere as long as theres snow. My names is Flecia by the way," she gave a small smile and looked around.

"Well, Flecia"Phex started after the two females had a small break in their conversation. "I happen to like living here with Auren. I don't have to worry about not being fed. And she's a strong leader, you can't go wrong with her. And since she's my leader and I'm content living with her, I think it would be wrong to leave, especially since I have protection from the elements, and whatever else." The Akita did not add that he was actually thinking of escape as Neylie was digging the hole. Though the yard was quite large and he could run full out in it, there just seemed to be something lacking. His posture and face showed no reason not to believe what he had just said, as he looked at the two females.

Quite suddenly he had a thought of freedom, and his imagination ran with it. He dreamed he was running free through the woods, still living in the territory he knew best, but now he was a strong, and confident adult. He was a force to be reckoned with! Other males stayed away from him and if they didn't he taught them a lesson they didn't soon forget. He had two or three females that he protected and they were his family, his pack. His unforgettable smile should once again as he looked up at the cloudy sky, snow falling softly onto the heads and backs of the three dogs.

Turning to Neylie he asked, "Do you know these parts well? Outside of the fence? Anywhere a pup might wander off to out of curiousity or maybe to seek shelter?" As he said this, Phex knew that he really wasn't so content and was going against everything he had just said to Flecia.

Neylie smiled to herself. So the house dog wants to see the outside world. I don't blame him. Life with humans is too confining. "I do indeed. I've lived out here for most of my life. There's a felled tree that's been hallowed out, he may be there." She blinked a couple of times, and lowered her voice. "You're not completly satisfied living here, are you? A dog cannot possibly be. Our souls always long to run free and wild, unlimited by humanistic rule. I should know..."
