What did she do to deserve this? All she had done was feed on a sheep! And now she was getting chased by a pack of four, angry looking twolegers who kept shouting at her. All the noise they were making was hurting her ears, and her paws were sore from running so fast. It just wasn't fair! Didn't the two Legers understand that she needed to take the lifeforce from the sheep? She hadn't eaten in so long, two weeks in fact, and she had to consume something. Couldn't they forgive her? She had to, it wasn't her fault, it was something she needed to do. She should have waited to feed at night, she would have been less likely to get caught... but she had been so hungry and so weak, the young Kage had taken the Risk. Taelin had been two thirds of the way through consuming the Sheep's life force when the first human found her, scaring her off from her meal. Although she had hid in the forest, the pack had come with dogs, flushing her out of her hiding spot in fear.
Vaulting over a fallen tree branch, the young Neverlin Kage stumbled and fell, frantically scrambling for traction. The crashing of the humans was getting closer, and the yipping of their dogs, more excited. Picking up a sprint as her claws finally gripped the ground, Taelin took off through the string of trees once again, trying to put as much distance between her and her pursuers as she possibly could. There weren't many places she could hide that would conceal her from the dog's sight, and even fewer that would obscure her scent, especially this close to the edge of the tree line. She hadn't been in the area long, so any knowledge of the terrain and waterways were unknown to her, and at the moment all she had was luck on her side.
Maybe she'd run into another Kage! A big, strong adult Kage! One that would be willing to help her... if not that, then someone who'd be able to lead her to somewhere safe. /Oh please. Oh please, please, please!/

LirazraThe sunny kage lay sound asleep in a hollow tree trunk, in the direct path of the young, frantic Taelin. The young kage's chasers' commotion, however, forced the sleep from Lirazra's eyes. It was very dark, and fear gripped her as she realized humans would soon be in her midst. With a bright hide still visible in the darkness, the adult kage peeked out of her makeshift home and let her eyes readjust to the night. All at once, she spotted the tiny brownish kage, tearing through the forest like an avalanche followed on her heels. "Wait!" she whispered, leaping from her warm bed into the cold, damp underbrush. If anyone would help the poor thing, it would be Lir. "This way, please follow!" she cried, her voice tinged with urgency-- she knew the kind of horrors humans had in store for her species when caught in 'criminal' acts, no matter how natural they seemed for the Kage. Nudging the small creature forward, she would lead her towards an abandoned cave she had discovered just north of their location.

Just as the young Kage was about to give up hope, a flash of yellow caught her eye... another Kage! Her prayers had been answered, whether by devine intervention or sheer luck, Taelin wasn't willing to question why or how. Dashing over to the source of the voice, the Kage glanced up at the Adult as she took a moment of repreve, incredibly glad for any help the yellow and black female was willing to give her. "Quickquick Miss. They are not far behind Taelin. They have those dog things with them." Picking up a run again as the Adult nudged her in a Northernly direction, she tried to keep pace with the female.
Between sharp pants, Taelin tried to explain her situation, hoping anything she could remember would help the Kage helping her. "Two dogthings, four hu-mans. Taelin was so hungry... should've waited... till nightfall. But... I was too tired. Sheep.... I took a small sheep... sickly looking... didn't think the hu-mans would notice." Catching herself as she stumbled over a root, the young Tanish Kage squawked before speeding up once more to catch up with the female. She could only hope this helpful Kage could hide them in time to escape the humans and dogs.

The older kage felt only sympathy and remorse for Taelin, wanting nothing more than to protect the tiny thing despite hardly knowing anything about her. "Dogs? Then we must hurry..." she replied, taking a crooked turn to the right almost suddenly enough to deter someone following close behind. "We must cross the river, or they will follow our scents to the end of the lands!"
Without hesitation, Lir threw herself into the bitterly cold rapids of the nearest lake, turning back only to assure herself that the younger kage was following. Already, Lir had forgotten the embrace of sleep that had held her tightly, and was intent on completing her next task. The poor thing had merely tried to feed, as modestly as she could, and still she had been punished. It was all too unfair to Lir. "Hurry!" she gasped, as she dragged herself out of the waters and shook herself off.
Far behind them came the incessant yapping of canines and the hooting and hollering of humans on a kage chase. Oh what fun they'd have if they could just catch the monsters!

"Right..." Although the older Kage jumped into the lake without hesitation, Taelin hovered near the edge of the water, staring at the lapping waves. For some reason, the lake drew up fuzzy emotions that the young Kage didn't want to explore. But as soon as the yapping came closer, Taelin leapt into the water, freezing cold because of the icemelt. The nice female had drawn a head of her, and try as though she might, the teen wasn't doing so well in the fight against the rapids. If she was older and stronger, she'd be aross the lake in no time, but because she wasn't... "Im... coming. Trying... hard."
It took her almost twice as long as the other female to cross the choppy surface, going under more than once, it took almost all of her remaining energy to get herself to dry land. Even the motion of shaking her self free of the chilling water sent her stumbling, she didn't have the stamina of an adult, especially since she didn't finish feeding before she was interupted by the two-leggers. "Tired... can't run... but Taelin must. Don't... want to die... again." Wobbling as she moved toward the underbrush, the tan youngling pinned her ears back to her head, she would do her best to keep up.

Now that their scent trail would be cleared, Lirazra continued onward towards the cave she had found long ago. She threw a glance back at the smaller kage, wishing she was even just a bit smaller-- that way, she'd be able to pick her up in her jaws and carry her as if she were her own child. A slight pang of regret crossed her heart, and she had no idea why. It's not as though she ever wished to conceive a child before, but she still felt as though something was lurking beneath the surface.
She knew Taelin was pushing herself, but nothing was worse than dropping behind and getting captured-- if she survived the dogs mauling her, of course. Stopping for a moment, she allowed Tae to catch up, nudging her again with her snout and attempting to help her move along. "We're almost there!" she cried as the mountainous area came into view. There was no sign of a cave, but the way Lir picked up the pace and frantically tried to push Tae along could only show she knew where she was going.
Behind them, the men came across the river and angrily ordered the dogs to cross it, shouting curses at the inconvenience of their path.
When finally they came to the rocky hills, Lir began pawing at the boulders, sniffing until she found a thin crack. "Here..." she whispered, pushing herself through and into the darkness.
