What on EARTH does The cover art for 'The Bends' mean?
I have a phobia, (one of those rare un-named ones) of distorted and warped images and sounds. So, as you can imagine, the first time I saw the cover art for 'The Bends' I freaked out. I've also been diagnosed with Schizophrenia. That means I hallucinate things that aren't really there, and I've been seeing this guy hanging around my house, and please, before I go insane, someone please tell me what it is uh... he is.
Thanks, I'm spraying this thread free of any vixen and/or man-vixen comments. So please keep that in mind if you feel the urge to post.
With love, -Rat

I think -- I THINK -- that the Bends is a sort of illness... Yep, I was right: Decompression Sickness, aka "The Bends". I suppose the cover is someone adjusting to pressure, g-force style.

I've always heard it was one of those first aid dummies. And they put the face of someone off the band onto it via a computer.

I see, I see. So, he distorted an image of a medical dummy? Could you pl0x send me the site where you found this? I totally believe you, but I'm curious to know more. Aaa-aand, The Orange Man (As I call him) says that he doesn't like being called a medical dummy, he prefers "Fake-Plastic-Person." Yes, yes, don't be worried, I know I'm not supposed to talk about my hallucinations online, but I love this guy. whee

I read it in a book. '1001 albums you must hear before you die.' It was something like "Thom Yorke took a photo of a first aid dummy and distorted it on his home computer..." hang on I'll find the quote. "Visually, The Bends was a mishmash, the cover featured a sprawling splattering of digital scree, topped off with Yorke's photo of a hospital resuscitation doll. It was perhaps a sign of things to come, as their later albums would be even more abstract..." Okay, so there you go, what I said but more wanky.
