Words are invaluable to all of human society. They are the root of our societies and make up what we are today. Well, what if that was actually literal? What if we were actually based off of a word, and that word gave us personality and direction. What if our name wasn't just a name, but a purpose, with true meaning and dictation over our lives.

Open a dictionary to a random page, close your eyes, and pick a word. It can be any word (as long as it's appropriate). That, or some derivation of that, will be your character's first name and the basis of its character. Do the same with the last name. If you can find no connection between the last name and the first or wish to add more complexity to your character, feel free to do a middle name as well.

This roleplay has no plot to begin with because the plot will spring from the ingenuity of its members and the expansiveness of the dictionary. Your character's personality and actions must be based off of their words to a degree. Your character can develop and change, but must stay true to their words.

Please follow all of the rules in the Roleplay Rules Sticky, but I'll provide basic guidelines here:
1. No god-modding, killing off characters without permission, etc.
2. Keep it PG-13; you know the rule. wink
3. Make sure you PM me your character profile; don't post it here.
4. You may have up to two characters. Anymore starts to get confusing and difficult to handle. Please make each character a different color; either choose a color in your PM or I will choose it for you upon your entry.
5. Try to post fairly often. If you tend to be a more major character in the roleplay, don't slack off for three months without notice or the story won't get anywhere.

Prestin L. Waterfall was lounging on his couch, legs dangling over the edge nonchalantly. He held a sleek remote in his hand, quickly changing channels, finding nothing of interest. Even with 10,000 channels, Prestin never found anything that suited his interest, whatever that was. He looked around his bachelor's pad, searching for something to do. His shelves were lined with CDs and a large stereo system took up the majority of the northern wall. The enormous flat-screen TV took up the eastern wall, while the western wall was a large window. Prestin liked watching the sunset out of his window, but it was morning now. He was cutting class again, with a horrible hangover and a lack of enthusiasm as an excuse. Just as he was about to go out for a walk to clear his head, a quick knock came at the door.

Misty fluttered about the woods in search for something...she was always searching for something, but she never knew what. It was always the same thing, that was for sure. But she still didn't know exactly what it was. But there! A mouse! She flapped down to catch it in her vicious beak and rip its little body apart. She especially enjoyed the ears and tail, for to her they were the tastiest treats in the world. "Ah well," she thought, "I guess I'll go on searching again."

Ressisance Forebode wandered aimlessly through the forest, looking for something, though what it was, she did not know. She knew that when she found it, however, she would know what it was. Stopping to admire the hunting of an owl and the brilliance of the partially obsured dawn sky, she wondered what would happen if she couldn't find food... again. Three years on her own had turned her into a hardened beggar and sometimes thief, but there were always the times she went for days without sustenance.

Naeve, her back hunched, stumbled through row upon row of apple trees, eyes watching them greedily. The apples generally started to become pine and coniferous trees, confusing Naeve. Her common sense tugged her through the forest, building more and more of her confusion. Naeve was not lost, but she simply did not know where she wanted to go. She stumbled upon a girl watching an owl.

The girls black tresses dangled about her shoulders, and she looked as if she had not eaten in many days, maybe a week or two. She was painfully thin, and the haggard, tiresome appearance that the girl had was unusual for a child her age. The old crone stepped out from behind the tree she had watched the girl from behind, reaching out a hand to the child.

"My Dear, what brings you to this darkness?" She said, sproinging one of the black curls between her two fingers, stretching out her wrinkled, thin arms to stroke the girls face with the back of a withered, calloused hand.

Ress jumped at the crone's touch, springing a couple feet away in surprise. "Wh-who are you?" she said warily, nervously drawing the hair the woman had touched back behind her shoulders, fidgeting.

Naeve gave a harsh laugh. "I am Naeve, daughter of Hera." she beckoned to the girl, smiling gently. "I know where we may feast, let us go there." She took the girls hand, and pulled it, tugging the girl with a surprisingly strong arm towards the city lights. She lightly tossed handful of bones at the owl, pulling them from her pocketed cloak. "Here, bird, don't follow us."

Bran walked down a busy street, full of noise and filth. How Bran found any pleasure in living here was beyond even her, but then again she didn't care much to think about it. Bran was walking to her favorite place, the park. She could at least find more decent things to look at, even though trash usually fluttered about and stench of the city wiped out any perfume the flowers might have. Bran certainly was a long ways away from her treasured fields.

Prestin opened the door, expecting to see some salesperson or somone collecting cans for a drive. But there was no one there. He had been hearing weird things lately, but he was so sure that he had heard someone knock. Not just knock, but he had heard shuffling and breathing outside of the door. "Maybe they realized they had the wrong address... or they ran away." Either way, he ignored the incident and went downstairs to go on the walk he had intended to take in the first place. He headed down the street to the park, the only place where he could clear his head.

Misty stared down at the bones Naeve had thrown her. She cocked her head to one side. There was nothing she could do with the bones; no meat was left sticking to their dry surfaces. Misty fluttered behind the two women; she didn't take heed of the crone's warning and followed them for a ways, wondering where they were going and if she'd find what she was searching for there.

Ress, stumbling alongside the crone, tried to shake her hand off but was unsuccessful. Lack of food was making her weak, she decided. "Where are you taking me?" she demanded, scared. "Let go of me!"

Naeve let out a harsh, barking cough. "My dear, you are hungry, are you not? We're going to the city, for food, child." She tugged harder on the girls arm. She could hear the fluttering of the owl behind her, quiet but barely sound. She turned to the owl, searching for it in the dark recesses of the trees. "I warned you, owl. If Hera sent you, then tell her there's no point in following me. Where I am going, not even the goddess of free earth and the world would want to go." She shook her fist at the trees around her.

"Goddess?" asked Misty, with her eyes as big and round as they could possibly be. Whoops, she thought. I talked. Misty didn't really like talking to humans, but this old crone seemed okay. And the girl next to her didn't look like someone who'd hurt forest creatures either.
