Asenath was adventurous, there was no doubt about that! The young cream colored cub was far to brave for her own good. Once again, she'd escaped the watchful eye of her father was was currently bounding on on rocks near the river. The cub giggled as she danced about the rough waters and splashed the water around.
She was told not to go to the river but who was around to tell her no? With two other sisters it was easier for her to slip away when one of them caused enough disturbance. So here she was. No doubt she didn't have a lot of time before her dad came to stop her from her games.
With this thought in mind she doesn't really pay attention to her next leap and ends up submerged in the water. "ACK! HELP!" She calls out struggling to get to the shore with her small paws. "HELP! DDAAADDDY!" She cries out but he's far too far away to hear her. Why did she run so far from him?
All this splashing arouses the attention of a croc who's keen on these hard waters and doesn't mind slithering forward to try and get a snack.

Ashiki, though larger now, was not really any braver than he had been when he was young. As much as he would have liked to pretend that he was a normal, brave lion who could function alone and live fairly well, he knew it was only fantasy and nothing more. He couldn’t stay from home for long and he hated the idea of being without company. He was dependant on being around at least one other animal. Could some of them really live their entire lives without company?
Seemed so impossible to the white male.
He was also disheartened to see that he was still a fairly small lion, his larger body relatively close to a cub’s still, though it had been quite some time since he had been one of those. No, he was growing up. He could feel it in his mind. Why wasn’t his body growing up accordingly? Then there was his mane. Oh the days he had spent picturing himself with a glorious white mane! Such a tragedy to come to realize that his mane would not be white at all, but black instead. The complete opposite of what he had wanted.
Growing up sucked.
Blinking, he shook himself from his thoughts at the sound of what seemed to be someone in distress. Instantly his stomach twisted into a tight knot, the male rushing forward without knowing what he was going to do. Someone was in trouble! Oh God, they were going to die if he was the one to help them!
Seeing something in the water, unable to tell if it was a lion or some other animal, Ashiki sprang into action, completely unaware of himself in that urgent moment of heroism. Aim better than he could have hoped, Ashiki landed directly on top of the opening mouth of the croc, shutting it instantly since those buggers had better snapping strength than anything else. “Whoa!” he yelped, before taking the thrashing female by the scruff to right her. Moving her to a rock, he set her down, trying to keep himself from falling off the angry croc. “Move no!” He gasped, before awkwardly toppling off the creature into the water.

Asenath sputtered as she batted her paws at the water, trying to keep up. She was none the wiser to the croc until she happened to get all turned around only to see all the teeth aimed directly at her. She let out a choked scream but the jaws were slammed shut. Her wide pink eyes focused on the male with a sense of amazement. He just beat up a crocodile! She allowed him to pick her up by the scruff, going limp as young cubs will do when picked up.
When she was placed on the rock, coughing, she didn't need to be told twice to get moving. She started to bound back toward the shore, stopping to look at the male. "Hey!" She shouted, "hurry! Get out of the water!"
The crocodile was angry he'd lost his first meal. When the male fell into the water he wasn't about to loose the opportunity and swam in an arch to turn around and go for him.

“It’s not like I WANTED to be in the water!” Ashiki yelped back, trying to get himself steady in the water. He wasn’t the best at swimming, though with the need to get the hell out of there before being ripped apart he discovered it wasn’t as hard as he had let himself believe. He sprang way from the irritated croc, feeling his back paw scrape against the teeth inside the creature’s mouth, just pulling out before getting nommed on.
He ignored the mild cuts on his leg for now, still pretty damn eager to get his a** out of there before a second attempt at grabbing him proved more successful than the first had been.
Scrambling up onto the same rock he had placed the cub before, Ashiki followed her path back to the back, too freaked out to find the whole thing heroic or fun. All he wanted to do was get safe and then maybe vomit over the whole experience. In that order, despite the churning inside his stomach.
Panting softly, he got himself next to the female, sitting down and watching the water. He didn’t think the croc would be willing to come onto the land.

She pressed herself down as though to hide herself. "C'mon!" She encouraged. Seeing his leg in the creatures mouth she let out a small sound of distress. Once he's on the rock she gets more active again. "You can do it!"
Once he's on the shore and beside her she flops down. Gosh that was scary. Glancing over at his leg she frowns. He got hurt. Her ears fall and she scootches over to him. "Do you think it'll come over here?" She asks keeping pretty behind the male. He could roar at it if it came up this way. That'd scare it off for sure.
The croc gives the shore a dirty look before sinking down to find its next victim.
She lets out a large sigh of relife that shakes her body. "Thank you for saving me. Are you alright? You're bleeding!"

“I don’t think so…” he said weakly in response. Ashiki watched the croc, keeping in front of the little female despite his whole body trembling in fear. It was very hard to fight the urge to just run for it before the croc could come after him again. He preyed he wouldn’t have to roar at it- as his roar sounded a little something like the pads of his feet squeaking against a rough surface. It wasn’t something that inspired respect and intimidation. All the while he thought about it he had no idea that she was thinking he might roar at it to scare it off.
Watching it retreat, Ashiki was finally able to start breathing again. Exhaling heavily, his whole body relaxed, his head turning back to look at the girl.
“What?!” he yelped, having forgotten about his injury, “I am?! Oh god. Is it bad?!” He looked around himself for a moment, before finally spotting the cuts on his foot. Small bubbles of blood sat on otherwise white fur. It hardly looked like something to panic about. But panic he did.
“Oh no! That croc knows what I taste like now! I hope I’m not delicious…” sighing, he looked back at Asenath, “are you okay?”

when he started to panic she flattened her ears. She hadn't meant to upset him! She quickly moved toward his paw and began to lick the drops away. "Hold on! My mom taught me about plants! I can help it." She offered then look terrified.
"I hope not either... but he went away so maybe you weren't that delicious?" She said encouragingly before giving a nod. "I'm not hurt..." She looked away, brushing her paw against the bracelet she wore. "I didn't mean for you to get hurt. I was just playin'... Dad told me not to play here... " She gave him a warm smile then brushed against his leg with her head. "Thank you very much for saving me."

Ashiki frowned, watching the girl. She was getting awfully close- oh God, she was licking the blood away! Didn’t she think it was gross? He didn’t even like to look at blood, much less clean it off himself. Did SHE think he was delicious? That would help him figure out if the croc wanted another bite of him or not.
“I guess not…” he replied. She was right- he wouldn’t have left if he tasted good. Why did that seem disappointing? Ah, well, there were other things to think about. The bleeding already looked like it had stopped, the small cut hardly anything to get as worked up about as he had. “Well… you’re welcome! Though I don’t think I did a lot of saving… I ended up in more trouble than you…”

The girl smiled at him warmly. "You did a great job! If you hadn't come along I'd been chomped up into nothin'!" She exclaimed mimicking the action and rolling onto her back. She stared up at him, tail swishing. "Well... you got out of it OK, right? I thought you were very brave."
