I first read Twilight when it first came out and was presented in Scholastic books. I liked the cover and bought it, when I read it I fell madly in love. I continued to buy the books, but as I matured I realized "oh geez these are getting worse by the book" so I quickly took to only liking just Twilight out of the series.
I then after more maturing, realized that not only were the characters one sided that Edward's and Bella's relationship couldn't even classify as just that; a relationship.
Edward was emotionally abusive and Bella was an annoying, bratty girl who was to dependent on her boyfriend.
Also, not only does it set feminism back 100 years it also presents a picture to young girls saying "It's okay if you let your boyfriend sneak in your window at night!"

I've never even picked up the darned book until now because I don't get to go to book shops as much as I like. Just hearing about it from two of my friends set my against it for two reasons.
1. Logic dictates that anything loved by huge masses of teenage girls is not good.
2. Sparkley Vampires
I am a bit of a Vampire purist. I like it when Vampires stick to what vampires are. Now I do agree with the fangirls when the say "Vampires are fantasy, you can do whatever you want with them." Now that is only partially true. You can only edit them so much. If you edit them to far you basically saying a mouse is a lion.
Now, I could go on to list every little thing that makes the books annoying and evil but I'm not. I just view it as an all around disgrace to literature and Meyer as a disgrace to Authors everywhere.
Seriously, her book get's leaked on the web and she throws a gigantic fit. I've never heard of a best selling author doing that.

I've always been picky with books. Even when I was 14, I did not like juvenile/ young adult literature- I preferred books written at an adult level. I like good writing with engaging characters and this little thing called a plot. Meyer's writing lacks both. I've literally read better fanfiction. She sucks. Period.

Like Nara, I do prefer adult books, have done since I was ten years old reading Stephen King.
But I love my vampys so I picked up Twilight and like Rayne, fell madly in love.
But after reading the third book, I really began to wonder. Jacob forced himself on Bella and...just everything became clear after that when the author made it seem like it was all right for him to do that.

Then I realized how crap the series was. I took the last book out from the library for a laugh and skipped most parts it was that boring.

But special babies don't interest me at all... confused

Being a writer myself, it offended me that something this crap can get published.

Soooo yeah, the Black Dagger Brotherhood wins hands down talk2hand

The Name's Xalia

Since I was maybe 12, actually, I've preferred the more adult books. One of my friends actually recommends books to me once in awhile and she recommended Twilight, and this was before I knew it sucked and it was everywhere.
I could feel my brain cells dying when I gave in and started reading it.

Geez it offends me, too, that it was even published. At least now I know that no matter how bad my stories are, they'll be a best seller.

You've just proved all our points, troll in the dungeon. First of all, instead of an intelligent debate- which I highly doubt you're even remotely capable of- you use pathetic personal insults, showing your immaturity and lack of ability to reason. As for most anti-twilight people have never read the series: prove it instead of just running your mouth. I want to see surveys, statistics. I have read Twilight. The only reason I can even fathom for it being so popular is that there's been a huge drop in humanity's IQ and evolution is sliding backwards at a rapid rate. Pretty soon, Neanderthal-man is going to look like Albert Einstein next to us. Pathetic, really. And you come along and just prove my point even more, so thank you.

True, true, but I was bore at the time and felt like stupidity should be bashed. blaugh Then again, I guess masochistic noobs get off on that sort of thing, don't they? I mean, if they cream themselves over Meyer and her crap-tastic writing, there's no telling what sexual perversions lurk in their muddled minds.

I only read the books because two girls i like said they were good and I had previous good recomendations from them. Now I read these books and even thought they were good because i skipped over any part about them being sparkley(?) but when I got done I was, and am, so disappointed with the series that I want to burn the books everytime I see them. One problem is that the Borders I go to has a whole collection set up in the front and I actually have to look away.

See, this is the kind of effect Twilight has on people! gonk You want us to kill ourselves the way your precious Edward attempted to? I'm not offended by the popularity, I'm disgusted.

Bella is a friggin' whore who turns on Edward in the second book for Jacob. She then turns her back on him as soon as Edward returns because Edward told her to. =W=' I doubt she would have even acknowledged his existence if he wasn't so 'beautiful'.

Edward is an abusive stalker who looses his virginity one hundred something years after being bitten by a psycho doctor to a seventeen year old girl. o.o'
This tells us something important about Stephenie Meyer and the images running through her head...

I'm no amazing write myself but at least I don't believe in child molestation! scream

That last post had nothing to do with my experience but, I had to let some steam out.

stare

The book was recommended to me somewhere in early 2007 by my friend Meghan. I didn't know what to expect and as soon as I heard the main character's name was 'Isabella' (my favorite name for a girl) I couldn't help but to read on. I was thrilled with the book at first but soon realized "This story plot makes no sense."

neutral

I read the second and third book for kicks but could barley stand it to make it through the fourth. I think Stephanie Meyer was trying to be a little too creative when she thought the idea vampires should 'sparkle' under the sunlight. Shes trying to make her self out to be an 'individual' writer and so far...its hasn't worked. =o='

This is the main thing that scares me. To see all of this continue, going stronger than ever. I wanted to lock a 22 year old in a closet for driving up to where they are shooting new moon. Instead of spending easter with family, she just took of on her own to Canada. Granted its bout 4-5 hours away, which ain't bad, but she had been trying to convince me for weeks to go with her. I made the mistake of showing her the pics I had seen of the cast chain smoking and she read where they were doing the shoots. Yep, the craze is sickening and horrifying. I cannot even fathom what could be running thru their veins but cold, black sludge for all the ink of the pages they've injested to become so deranged. Yes I think some of these girls sleep with their books like bibles, holding it close to them as they fantasise of being the "luckiest girl in the world" with "the best undead man ever".
So I am reading the series after all the horrid things I have heard. I watched the movie, for the most part I pick it apart for the director being a ditz, but overall have that side in me that does enjoy Romeo and Juliet stories. After making it half way thru the first book, I do see the bad writing but do also see where it is drawing in all the hopeless romantics. Yep, as I read I turn to see my man next to me and know that the words in front of me are a far fetched hope in bliss that even with the hardest attempts will never be fullfilled.
I do hope that they hurry, pump out the rest of the movies, and meyer stays away from continuing this with the "thru Edwards eye's" saga crap. I beg she just takes her money and vannishes. ( I doubt it will ever happen crying )
