Basically this is a casual Tales of Lethe roleplay, which means it's set on Lethe, but we won't be using any of the game rules; it's just in written roleplay format. Consider it ToL for beginners.
RULES:
The rules are fairly simple.
- Follow all of the guild rules! That means no swearing! And if you MUST be romantic, don't take it to inappropriate levels! - Absolutely no godmoding or powerplaying. Controlling others' characters is considered very rude by myself and a majority of other intelligent roleplayers. And being invincible, impervious to any kind of negative effect, and knowing every spell in your alignment is just annoying and ruins the game for other players. - Your character absolutely may NOT have more than one elemental alignment. Such a thing runs completely contrary to how the magical system of Lethe works. Since this obviously isn't the actual game with all of its rules and regulations, I have no way to check characters' spell knowledge, but please keep it reasonable.
Before we begin, here are some things you need to know about the world.
- There are nine races that inhabit the planet of Lethe:
THE HUMANS are one of the most populous species. They live in all areas of the world and come in all sorts of ethnicities.
THE SALGUIN, or the Light Ones, resemble Humans except for their pointy ears and the white feathered wings on their backs that allow them to fly.
THE MORCAI, or the Dark Ones, resemble Humans except for their pointy ears and the black leathery wings on their backs that allow them to fly.
THE RAMANS are a tall, thin race characterized by the large, flight-capable wing feathers growing from their arms, and the smaller, whiskerlike feathers on their cheeks.
THE DRAGONS are a large, quadrupedal, reptilian race with massive scaly wings. They are solitary and dwell in the mountains.
THE DWARVES are a diminutive, stocky race with a great love of technology and machinery.
THE FAIRIES are an immortal, all-female race with the appearance of children--and the maturity levels as well.
THE BIHRUNGS are best described as shark dragons. They travel the oceans of Lethe in family pods.
THE CENTAURS, half Human, half horse, are a proud race with a tribal society. They host the annual Great Hunt on the Shouldred Plains.
- Each individual born on Lethe has the ability to manipulate magic of a certain element. This is known as having an affinity for that element.
- The ten elements are:
FIRE - Element of combustion and heat.
EARTH - Element of rock and metal.
ELECTRICITY - Element of charges and magnetism.
WATER - Element of moisture and liquids.
AIR - Element of gases and winds.
PLANT - Element of vegetable life and functions.
ANIMAL - Element of animal life and functions.
LIGHT - Element of luminescence.
DARKNESS - Element of shadow.
SPIRIT - Element of soul.
- Technically, each race has its own set of probabilities for each element (utilized during character creation), but since this isn't the actual game, I'll go ahead and let you pick any one element for your character.
- The dominant light and energy source on Lethe is High Magic Cores, small tetrahedral objects that constantly give out a strong magical light. Although they only appear on semi-annual Corefall Nights, when they float gently from the sky in a random area, they are the most preferred source of illumination and power, as the pure magic within them never exhausts and they do not output any of their energy as heat.
-Magions are the official currency of Lethe. They come in the form of coins cut from quartz and come in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100-magion denominations.
- I think I've covered all of the basics you'll need to know for this RP, but if you have any further questions or things that need clarifying, please let me know.
So just make up a character (or, if you already play the game, go ahead and use your game character), and jump on in! I'll be making the first post to set the scene and give you something to work off of.
- One last thing before we start; please don't use any of the above information without Lucentas' permission. Everything about Tales of Lethe is copyrighted to her, and she's worked very hard on the game and doesn't want to see any part of it stolen. Thanks.

~Prologue
One year since the curse was lifted and a few months since the escape from Seti, those of the blood line of Galif the Sage find themselves at peace. Their lives are joyful and Cor'dialis smiles on them. Torbo, Vræl, Emma, Heratio, and the Raman girl Avis have all been rescued from the clutches of an angry Nemesis and given back their free will. Yet one more task remains as they find themselves drawn to the place of their birth. This is the tale of the restoration of a noble bloodline and the unification of a world still divided.
The majestic Setami Li Amalia lies in ruin, monsters roam the ruins of great halls that belonged to the various clans descended from Galif, and while the Curse and the Rift have ceased to exist, the valley is not safe. The Feralais must now fight to save their home and halt the gears of a madman's machinations.

Avis Ferdo alighted from her uinta, wrapping her heavy winter coat more tightly around her lithe little body. The biting northern winds of Corax were bone-chilling even when one didn't have hollow bones like the young Raman woman did. Pulling her fur-lined hood farther down over her silky brown hair, she looked out upon the scene in front of her. It seemed impossible, but there it was--a valley teeming with life, as towering trees and verdant grass stretched out in front of her. It was welcome relief from the sparse tundra they had passed through for the previous week. "Is...is this it?" she breathed, looking over her shoulder at her husband. "It's even more amazing than I'd ever imagined..."

Heratio smiled, "You think this is amazing? Wait til you see the main mansion. Even the ruins of the other houses have a regal air to them. The mansion house should be near the center of the valley in a grove of spruce trees," he said pointing east into the valley, "It should also get a little warmer the further we go into Setami."
As Heratio and Avis continued their journey to the mansion house someone was watching them from a nearby cliff in the mountains.
-----
"I'm so hungry Vræl..." Torbo complained, "can't I have one more piece of jerky?"
Vræl glared at his brother, "If I've told you once I've told you a thousand times, no! We don't have much food left, and we need to save until we get to Setami."
Waving his hand at Vræl, Torbo leaned against the neck of his uinta. Two more miles, he thought, just two more miles. He could already feel the air changing as they got closer.

"This is so awesome!" Emma chirped from the back of her uinta. "I can't wait 'til we get back home! Remind me again why we're going back, Torbo?" she said, her bright eyes shining with excitement and her cheeks and nose rosy from the cold.

"Heh heh heh, we're going back to fix up the house," Torbo replied, "we're going to rebuild our home and call back the neighbors, and we'll start up the festival again. Everything will be just like it was in the good old days."
Vræl stroked his chin. "There is one problem though. How are we going to convince the neighboring villages that it's safe to come back?"
"I don't know," Torbo replied, "maybe if my stomach wasn't so empty I could think better."
The three laughed.
-----
The uinta's nails clicked on the ancient cobble stone. Heratio stopped his and dismounted. In front of him was a large red brick wall with a towering steel gate covered with twisting silver vines. A giant topaz with the crimson crest of the Feralai lay in the center held up by the silver steel. Within the gate lay a four-story brick mansion with a deep red color. The roof was made of terracotta shingles. The windows were all arched except for the central windows on each level which were circular with brown borders. The front double doors were made of mahogany and had three steps shaped in semicircles leading up to it with two pillars holding up an awning with more terracotta shingles. Pathways crisscrossed a garden full of wildflower and jasmine. Everything outside the walls was covered in overgrowth and weeds, but the years hadn't touched the mansion house.
"Here it is," Heratio said as he pushed the heavy gate open.

"Wow..." Avis gasped, looking at the gigantic structure and the beautiful grounds surrounding it. "It's beautiful..." Something seemed off, though. Too...quiet. The only audible sounds were the wind and the steady, heavy breathing of the uintas. A wave of realization washed over her as she recalled Heratio's words about the curse that had taken so many members of his family. "Are they all...gone?"

Heratio looked around. He could feel it too.
"It would appear so," he said, "Come on, I think I remember there being a stable around back where we can put the uinta's. The we can go inside and find the kitchen because I'm hungry."

Avis couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness and disappointment as she followed her husband around the sprawling manor. She had kindled a small hope that perhaps they'd find at least one other person there to greet them, but instead they were met with emptiness, loneliness. She shivered again, and not entirely out of cold. Despite its beauty, the place was unnerving somehow. She wondered if Heratio had hoped to find someone there as well, and debated within herself whether asking him would just make things worse.
Another breeze blew past them; although it was substantially warmer than the freezing gusts they had encountered as they journeyed northward, it was still a temperature her Raman bones couldn't handle easily, even with her warm clothing. Reaching out a hand, she made a quick gesture, and suddenly the air around them warmed considerably. Avis sighed. "Ah, that's better."

Heratio smiled at Avis as he felt the warm air. "Thanks," he said. They put the uinta's in the stables and walked toward the mansion. The back part of the mansion contained a garden full of cherry blossom trees that flourished in the cool air of Setami.
"These cherry blossoms were Loralai's pride and joy," Heratio said as he picked a blossom in passing, "Here, you can have one."
-----
Vræl was asleep in his saddle and Torbo had managed to sneak out an extra piece of jerky for himself and Emma. The sun was setting on the eastern pass in the distance as they entered the grove of spruce trees that surrounded the mansion house.
"We're almost there Emma," Torbo whispered, "Isn't it exciting?"

"Mm, yes!" Emma said with delight between bites of jerky. "Oh, isn't it beautiful this time of day?" Peering through the trees, however, she noticed something was off. "Torbo...why is the gate open?"

Torbo looked at the gate that lay some 100 feet away now and saw it was wide open. Shaking Vræl to wake him up he asked, "Hey, did you close the gate the last tie we were here?"
Groggily Vræl answered, "Yeah, why?" "Because the gate is open." "So, there could be millions of reasons why it's open." "Like what?" "Well, the wind could've blown it open." "I doubt it, you know how heavy that thing is."
Vræl shook off the last bit of his sleep, "Well, then we'd best be expecting company."
"Let's hope it's the good kind," Torbo added.
-----
Heratio found the back door unlocked. It lead into the kitchen which had a checker tiled floor. There were several cabinets and a large walk in pantry. In the corner was a large fireplace with a medium sized cauldron hanging in the firebox, several tools lay on the hearth. A stove sat next to it with various pots and pans hanging on the wall.
"It's nice and warm in here," Heratio commented, "Why don't we find something to eat?"

"Wow..." was all Avis could say as she looked around at the kitchen. "It's so...homey." At the same time, though, it was very unsettling seeing it look so lived-in. It would have felt far more normal to see a bare room than one looking like someone put their cooking tools down for a while...and never picked them up again. She still couldn't shake that eerie feeling, but she tried to save face for Heratio. After all, he seemed to be enjoying his homecoming. Suddenly, she stopped cold, whiskers bristled. She had heard something.
--
"Heeeellloooo!" Emma called through the front door. "Anyone home? Anybody in there?"

Heratio noticed Avis tense up. "What's wrong Avi-"
A crash sounded from within the house.
-----
"Torbo!" seethed Vræl, "That was mom's favorite decorative plate!"
"It's a good thing it's made of metal then," Torbo replied as he put the plate back it's stand. The entrance hall was one of the larger rooms in the house. It was two stories high, so the circle window on the second level brought in light. On either side were curved stairs that lead to a balcony on the second floor and then spiraled up the rest of the way. Under the balcony was the main hallway that ran parallel to the house. Torbo had bumped into the table next to the north stair case and knocked down an ornate silver serving platter his dad had given his mom on their third anniversary.
"Look! you dented it!" Vræl yelled.
-----
Heratio could hear voices coming from down the main hall as he peerd out of the kitchen. He was holding a frying pan he grabbed from above the stove and Avis had a rolling pin she found in a drawer. He signaled to Avis to move and they ran quietly down the hall.

Avis crept along behind Heratio, sensing the air currents to discern the location of the intruders. "They're in the front hall," she whispered. "They smell of the outside air, uinta...and meat."
--
"STOP ARGUING!" Emma screamed at her brothers. "We can get somebody to fix it later! Right now we need to find out who or what got inside!"
Around the corner, Avis cringed; they were within earshot now. "What's our plan of attack?" she whispered to Heratio.
