The poll in the thread didn't quite work out, so I'm asking you now again: what would be a nice name for this guild? All names can be posted in this thread, all discussion about a name should go on here too.
So, who wants to re-name the guild with a less lame name? sweatdrop

yeah, I don't think theres anything wrong with what we've got now. I like it. Of course I could see why you'd want something a little more original, but there's nothing wrong with plain and simple is there?

I think the name is alright...but there's probably a lot of people that don't know what it means.

That's one reason why I would like a new name... sweatdrop But 'beta and writers guild' or something along those lines sounded a bit weird too. neutral I just hope people will be interested enough to read the homepage, and anyway, I reckon 95% of the writers on Gaia know what beta means. *hopes. hopes very hard.*

Gaia Beta Guild's fine. I mean, really, the only thing that you could do is a play on words like "Write Right," which is just cheesey.

Yeah, actually now that I think of it, I never actually used the term beta till I came on Gaia. On other sites I usually just call it proofing or crits. Beta is pretty common here though. Either way, groups like this are often called Circles or Connections... maybe we could fit that into the name?

I always used beta 0.o for some reason I never used any other terms... at 'C&C' was the first time I figured out it meant 'comment&critique'. and proofreading seems so simple sweatdrop wonder why I never used it now. and what do you mean with fitting in circle or connection? something like 'Gaia Beta Connection'? 0.o

What would be really cool is if enough people joined that we could actually run a circle in a subforum or something. And activites xd

Njoho Sanaa Care to explain? It sounds promising. Well the crit circle format is great for a bunch of people who have longer works or many works they want beta'd and also like to give crits. There are different ways to set it up. My favourite is to let everyone who wants their stuff beta'd to set up a thread and post a first story or a first chapter. Then if they want say 3 crits on their work, they go and crit 3 other people's stories. The idea being, if someone crits your work, you crit them back, and usually you follow the etiquette that you don't post another story or chapter until you've finished your return crits. And if there are people who only want to give crits they can just float around and beta whichever stories they want. But I've found that the give/receive method is a great practice to get into for writers, even those who feel their editing skills aren't up to snuff, because you'll learn as much from looking critically at someone else's work as you will from getting comments about your own. Plus, it's a good way to ensure there's a lot of different feedback being given rather than just a few nice souls commenting on everything. As for activities, well that all depends on the crowd. Some people like to get together to do writing exercizes. Me, I'm a fan of stuff like worldbuilding workshops, where you help each other knock around ideas for story background details.

Some people like to get together to do writing exercizes. Me, I'm a fan of stuff like worldbuilding workshops, where you help each other knock around ideas for story background details. The 'put up a thread per story' was also my idea, that's why I originally asked about subforums... I kind of recognize the way the circle should work, I think it's a great idea. smile I'm going to check how I can fit in this new rule. wink (Edit: You could first put up a thread to have people vote over it, since many don't have all that much time and there are more people willing to beta then those needing... Just an idea.) And those activities sound fun! I always used to join the 'one paragraph'-stories, where every writer writes one paragraph or an X-ammount of words and then another writer continues where the first left. On DA there's a nice example: http://rustylantern.deviantart.com/
