Lol, I know this is, like, a year late, but it took me a while to find just the right piccolo. xD This might also be good for any lurkers who are considering buying their first piccolo.

I reccomend a Geminhardt (I think that's how you spell it, lol) with a resin body (not silver or silver plated; resin tends to have a "quiteter" tone), and make sure you don't get a silver-plated head. I reccomend a silver head, and if you can find one, a resin head tends to be easier to produce a better tone on, especially in the high and low registers. It tends to sound less "mettalic."

If you happen to buy another head for the piccolo, it will have to be fitted for your piccolo by somebody who specializes in instrument repair. I freaked out when I thought I'd bought the wrong size of head-- don't worry if you happen to buy another head and it doesn't fit once you take it out of the package! xD

Also, if you're on a budget, I reccomend buying it used. Just be /very/ careful, because not all sellers are wonderful. My aunt once got herself a very bad deal on a used flute. On the other hand, I bought both my flute and piccolo used and they still work wonderfully.
