"How much longer until we arrive?" Aelita looked at Karrich expectantly, her emerald eyes reflecting the boredom the rest of her slender body concealed. "We've been on the road for near a fortnight and we're running out of supplies."
" I expect us to be there in a candlemark or two, maybe less." He shrugged casually, a feat seldom achieved in the heavy armor the man donned. "But Aelita, just because we'll be in a city, doesn't mean you're off duty, we have a job to do, you know."
"Yes yes, I know..." She waved a hand dismissively. "We go in, find the b*****d who killed Sevranon, rough 'im up a bit, and turn him into the Guild where he'll recieve quite the welcome from the inquisitor." A glint of jealousy flashed in her eyes; probably envy for the inquisitor in this situation. "That doesn't mean we can't have a drink or four and a decent meal. Travel rations are just too much for a lady like myself."
Farrich snorted; Aelita was no more a lady than he was. "You'll not be drinking much; Boss' orders, remember? After what happened last time, you're lucky he lets you drink at all. I do agree with you on finding a decent meal; the rats won't even eat the rations we're given." He would have laughed if it wasn't true.
"We don't want to do anything to make us stand out." Not like we don't stand out enough anyway. A girl who moves like an assassin and an obvious merc; we're going to have every guard follow our every step. "Just... just follow me, okay? That way you won't get in trouble." Hopefully...
Today would be a long day.
