Between The Lines winged her way into the park, muttering under her breath. She was late for the meeting to negotiate possibly helping one of the doctors. She'd seen him post the notice. A violet-inked "upper-class" male from the flock. If any of the others from the poorer group found out she was helping him, who knew what they would do? The scavenger shook her head sharply, and landed under a bush, watching for the doctor. She hated the way the flock was divided, and neither side was helping matters much. Especially some of the more aggressive ones, like that music-playing thief, Nintendo.

West Side Story was perched on a statue of one of the wingless ones and was getting a mite irritated at being kept waiting by this nameless pidge. But beggers can't be choosers, especially in this new flock of his. To think he'd left behind being flockless to join this group to try and mend the rift between them. He could have joined Baker's flock like his sister had wanted, but he knew he could do the most good by helping and doctoring both the rich and the poor.

But he couldn't made it known that he was doing so. He was considered upper class, which meant he was not supposed to associate with the lower class. But West knew in his heart that he was born to help the pidge of the world. Thus the reason he was here in first place.

The scavenger spotted the other pidge after some looking about, and fluttered out from under the bush and over to land near him. she fluffed her feather with a sigh. "M'sorry, I'm late. I had to find a reasonable excuse to be out so late. Suspicious lot, my side of the tracks. Mind if we get out of the open?"

She watched the doctor quietly, checking the surrounding area for others of their flock. She didn't want any trouble, but she knew there was likely to be noone in the richer group that would offer their services to him, and she didn't mind being helpful. As long as none of the others found out.

West listened to her explanation and knew that it was as true as there ever was. So, he remarked in greeting, "Ah! Good comrade in arms, you've finally arrived! Make no worry over it. You're here and that's all that matters." He thought of a good place to hide and came up with. . . "How about under yonder dark ledge my friend? It should be dark enough."

Dr. West was very excited with the thoughts of getting his supplies, so he eagerly awaited her decison.

She raised a brow at his phrasing, but just shook her head with a small smile. "Sounds reasonably good to me. As I said in my note, you need help, and I don't mind helping. Possibly for a price, though?"

Between inspected the doctor carefully as she spoke, taking in every detail she could. She tilted her head slightly, then took off to the ledge he'd indicated. Anything to get away from where others could see them.

"I really don't have much, because I don't like to carry things with me when I fly." In truth, he only had something of his mother's. She'd given it to him before she'd died, and the pearl ring was the most precious thing that he owned. He was fearful of loosing it, so he carried it always, tied to the front of his parka. "I can offer any medical help you, or your friends, may need for free. When I start my practice I should be able to start gathering a bit more to choose from. Perhaps you could pick then?" Dr. West continued. "But regardless, we should start a schedule for delivery and pick up. Perhaps in this very glen?"

She clicked her beak slightly, nodding. "S'not a problem, really. Mostly, the reason I say that is because whe have little enough on the poorer side. If I'm seen helping you, I need some excuse or reason to be giving up time that could be used to be getting seed and the like for the chicks and such. I'm not big on friends, mostly, actually."

Tween paused, then nodded. "This spot should be good, I think."

"You could explain you're doing this deed to make sure that there's a doctor who can see to the needs of the little ones, as well as the old ones." He cooed, very much excited at the thought. "I really do hope I can help the less fortunate. Your people need help as much as my people." He said, knowing this to be true. He'd helped many a pidge when he'd been flockless.

"They won't listen! You may or may not have noticed, Mister Doctor, but Half Price's flock isn't full of many open-minded pidge." She'd raised her voice at the first, but quieted on the second statement. After all, they weren't supposed to let other pidge know about the flock. "You're new, I know, so you may not know this. They'll say I'm trying to rise above my proper place or something."

Between shook her head. " I want to help, but it'd be best if we kept this quiet. At least for a while. Maybe things will get better."

Dr. West got very quiet and knew that to his very being, she was right. With that knowledge, the normally carefree and happy pidge sighed and turned somber. "I know of the rift, and I was hoping to fix it. I was praying to the very depths of my body that I could attempt to fix it. I want ever so badly to try and make the very ones you speak of understand that I am sincere and that I do want to make things right." He said, sighing once again.

"I want the two classes to come together, and the upper to quit mistreating the lower. I know of the forcing of lower class pidge to stay, and I hate it. I came to this flock to try and mend the very rift that forces us to meet in the darkest of night, away from prying eyes. And I have a feeling that it's the reason you haven't offered your name yet, even though you know mine." He said, his head hanging low and his heart all but breaking at the knowledge that he might not be able to help.

Tween sighed as she listened. The scavenger nodded, sidling closer. "I understand. Really, I do. It's all I've ever known, but I've seen how other flocks are. This isn't the way things should be. The lower class isn't completely innocent, though... Many of us are too damn obstinate and argumentative. I can tell you want to help..."

She bit her tongue, and resisted the urge to try and comfort the other pidge with anything other than words. "I'm Between The Lines...A bit impolite of me not to say."

Dr. West knew there had to be some reason for the other side to be resentful, and the other pidge confirmed his fear. "I had a feeling there was more to this than just one side. As they say, there are always two sides of an argument, and you've just confirmed that very fear." He sighed once again and brought his head up to look into the other pidge's eyes when she uttered her name.

"Between the Lines, eh? Lovely name. Wish we could have met under different circumstances, but things being as they are, I'm glad to have met you anyways. Very glad, indeed, seeing as I'm in a rather desperate need of gauze, sticks of some sort, and other medical things." He said, trying to brighten his tone but not quite managing it. He was not the actress his sister was, and so was unable to quite pull off the covering of emotions she always pulled quite flawlessly.

"And it seems I might just have an ally in my campaign to help this flock. Or am I wrong to assume your wish is the same as mine?" He asked, hoping desperately for this to be true.

Tween fluffed out her feathers. "It'd gotten worse since Half Price's father died... I'm not sure on all the politics of it, I just know what I see."

She smiled slightly at the doctor. "I think it's a rather ironic name, given our flock's current situation..." She extended a wing and patted him lightly on the shoulder. The scavenger could tell he was still a bit low-feeling.

"Of course I'll help. I wouldn't have responded if I didn't mean to do so. Maybe if we can work together, those bleedin' rock-heads will see that it's possible." She grinned slightly, trying to cheer him up.

Her grin really lightened his heart, and he needn't mention how her words did the rest to restore him to his buoyant attitude. "I foresee us being great friend, my dear Liney!" He cooed, before turning his thoughts back to more serious matter. "I believe we should have weekly meetings, my dearest friend. Perhaps on Fridays? If I'm correct, that seems to be when the pidge are most busy and so won't notice our absence." Dr. West looked deep into the other pidge's eyes when he said this.

She nodded. "Fridays sound good. I'll collect things throughout the week and bring them to you then."

Her eyes brightened. "If I just mix the things I bring in for you in with everything else I bring, then maybe the other's won't notice? I'll seperate thiings once I settle for the night. And I'd like to be friends... You don't seem half bad, Mister doctor." She winked lightly at that.
