Pebble couldn't help but be a jumble of emotions as she made her way toward Half Price's flock. It was her first day starting out as a translator for Psycho, one of the doctor's in the flock, and his associate, Friendly Skies. Part of her was excited. This was her first job, and she'd actually get to do two things she loved doing: helping people, and interpreting. The other part of her, however, was nervous. What if she screwed up? What if she made herself look foolish in front of Psycho? That wouldn't do at all!
When the station Half Price's flock was located at came into view, the young coffee-foggy colored pidge tried to relax. Dipping gracefully in the sky, Pebble landed with ease and paused for a moment to collect herself. The signature scarf she was noted for had loosened as she flew, and the Whisperer tightened the knot and straightened it to look more presentable. But then she froze. Why was she trying so hard to make a good first impression? With a sigh, Pebble then shook away her nervousness and apprehension and made her way toward Psycho's nest. It was now or never.

Psycho was busy organizing, one of the things he usually did daily. His nest had plenty of healing supplies, mostly organized well. A small part had some items on the ground, marking the spot he thought needed to be reorganized. Friendly Skies only watched, knowing from past experience not to bother Psycho about any tasks or needs when the doctor was busy doing his OCD thing. Pebble caught his eye, though. He chirped excitedly. "Hello there!"

At the sight of Friendly Skies, Pebble couldn't help but beam. He was a warm and welcoming Passeridae who definitely lived up to his namesake. "Hello," she greeted back happily in the associate's language. "It's nice to see you again!" If any of them were to make her feel the most welcome, it would probably be Friendly Skies. Psycho hadn't really opened up to her yet, but that would change with time.
When Pebble got to the nest, she immediately noticed Psycho organizing his belongings and supplies. She reverted back to pidge to address him, wanting to make sure he knew that she had arrived. "Hello, Psycho. I'm here for my first day of interpreting..." she told him in a soft-spoken voice, "I hope you haven't forgotten."

"Even if I had, the sparrow made enough racket to tell the whole flock you're here. In the corner is a little nest for you to rest in if you get tired out of boredem." he said, not looking at her.
"Don't mind him, he's messing with that stuff again. I dunno why. That's what he does, really. Sometimes he'll go out and use some of that stuff on other big birds, but usually he's playing with those things, off to eat, or making me do stuff. Sometimes he talks out loud. Like he suddenly thinks I can understand him. It's weird." Friendly Skies said in a cheery voice.

"I doubt I'll get bored," Pebble informed the doctor as she moved to the small nest. Once she had reached it, the Whisperer promptly sat down and smiled over at Friendly. At least over here she would be out of the way of Psycho. She wouldn't want to mess up any of the things he had organized. "Friendly wants to know," she continued, shooting the associate a playful smile, "why you organize all of your belongings, and why you think that you can suddenly understand him. He says you talk out loud."
One thing was for sure -- this job was going to be interesting.

"Cleanliness is close to godliness. And I know I can't understand the chirpy-gibberish he makes. And now he has a name? News to me. But to answer the last question, it's something called 'mumbling to thyself'."
Friendly wondered what the smile was about. Was Pebble gossiping about him or praising him or something? It was all so confusing.

Pebble blinked as she listened to how Psycho was going on about Friendly. It was hard to believe he could be so indifferent to someone who helped him out so much. "Of course, he has a name," Pebble said, fluttering her wings a bit. "Every bird has a name. His is Friendly Skies." She shook her head about his comment on cleaning. Sure, it was good to be clean, but other things should be important, too.
As she spoke with Psycho, Pebble took care to note Friendly's confusion. She turned to him and then, with a gentle smile, started to relay what they were speaking of into a language he would understand. "Cleanliness is close to godliness, according to your friend. And unfortunately, he didn't know your name until a few moments ago. Is there anything you want me to tell him for you before I ask what needs to be done for the day?"

"Yeah. What's his name?" Friendly asked, not upset that Psycho never told him his name. Maybe the big bird didn't know how to ask without words.
"Friendly Skies." Psycho muttered, finishing up his rearranging.

Pebble smiled at Friendly and gave him a soft pat on the shoulder. "His name is Psycho." Maybe, just maybe, by helping the doctor she would be able to strengthen the relationship the pidge had with his associate. She could only hope.
"Psycho?" Pebble called out, turning to look at him curiously. "Is there anything you need Friendly to do for you right now? If so, please tell me so I can relay the message to him so that he can start his duties."

"We're a bit short on popsicle sticks and string." Psycho admitted.
"Hmm. Psycho. It sounds funny. Er...don't tell him I said that." Friendly Skies sweat-dropped.

With a curt nod, Pebble listened to what Psycho said they needed, and turned to Friendly. Speaking rapidly in Passeridae, she explained to him what the doctor needed the most. "He needs popsicle sticks and string. Oh, and don't worry..I won't tell him you said that." She winked and chuckled after finishing translating the message. Psycho wouldn't be amused at all to know that someone thought his name sounded funny.

Friendly nodded and flew off without another word.
Psycho had turned for the first time since Pebble's arrival, watching the sparrow go. "...It's better than pointing and playing charades all day." he admitted before looking over his nest, deciding what to do next as a train roared nearby.

"I'm glad you think so," she admitted with a quiet sigh of relief. If Psycho liked having Pebble around to interpret instead of just pointing and flailing around like a madman in order to get his point around to Friendly, then maybe things would go more smoothly than she thought.
She sat in silence for the next few moments, allowing the doctor to think about what his next plan of action would be, before growing tired of the quiet. "So, tell me about yourself. What do you like?"

"I like many things, things I don't feel appropriate to speak of at this time." Psycho inched to the edge of his nest, went over the side and went off to find something to eat without another word.

Pebble nodded her head to his words, and was about to reply when she saw him flying away from the nest. He was just going to leave her without even telling her! "Hey, wait up," she called out, quickly flying after him. If there was one thing she knew, it was that she wasn't going to be shaken this easily or early in the game.
