I've been practicing writing kanji and I just took 8 random ones I was working on last night. Are they understandable??? Tips?

As far as I know, the 8 kanji posted along with the English are understandable. And, judging by stroke order, they seem to be okay. Are you learning stroke order and meaning from a book or teacher? I am not saying it matters (well sometimes it does, but that's besides the point), but the thing is that from the writing, you've practiced stroke order well.

However, the hiragana above a few of the kanji is incorrect or proportioned wrong.

しゅう of 週 needs to have a smaller ゆ when written. Otherwise it looks like しゆう or Shiyuu.

よう of 曜 is only よう not "ようび”. The び part of ようび is actually written 日as in 月曜日 (Monday) and 金曜日 (Friday).

And with I am not sure if you wrote above it "たいよ” or something else that I can't quite figure out, though. Now, checking my dictionary it's ”たいら”. The bottom part of ら looks like in the drawing the bottom part of "よ” so that's what I thought it was when I first saw it.

Other than that it is okay. Keep up the good work! biggrin

Probably too late for this but what the hell I'll say it anyway.

1. Your ひらがな s look like カタカナ s. Be mindful of that. Notice the difference.

2. Your 日 in and in needs to be smaller and half way between the other part of the 漢字. When writting by hand this is often the case but as you can see on the computer its a little different. But then again, it could just this particular font. It can vary but yeah I'm pretty sure what I'm saying, most Japanese people would agree that the 日 part is written a smaller when it part of another 漢字. This is referred to as a radical of a 漢字. Radicals give you an indication about what the 漢字 is associated with. If you haven't learned about those yet you will soon. Its pretty easy to get your head around it anyway.

3. In the character try to be mindful of the fact that the right side of the character (the one you write first) never joins the tail at the bottom.

4. In your character the top part on the right hand side of your character looks too much like an English Z or lightening bolt. Try to remember this order on how to write
i) write カタカナ の twice then vertical stroke connecting the bottom ノ
ii) write ひらがな く and カタカナ ム underneath but joining it
iii) then write sort of カタカナ タ but a little bit stretched out and the final stroke a bit longer. This is the method which my 1年の先生 taught me when writting 漢字。For me it works well.

5. Your ん in 年 look too much like a cursive English lower case n. In Japanese ん looks more like a lower case cursive English h but slanted and is never curled at the top.

6. Be mindful of ひらがな る and ろ. I know when I was learning I mixed them up all the time but you have to remember the difference. This sorta helped me remember. ろ looks similar to an English cursive Z and る is basically the same but the end in curled. Either that you could look at in terms of a number 3. That might help as well.

Sorry if I'm coming off harsh but to be honest this is what learners of anything need. You may feel stupid but, in the end you're better off and your become more disciplined.

Lol yes, I'm well aware that my hiragana look like katakana. And that ra at the end of Taira is a ra. not a yo. If you think my japanese is bad you do not wanna see my eigo o_o But I'm aware of the readings it's just my bad handwriting that needs work >.<
