Hi there! I know the guild hasn't been very active lately so that's why I'm posting this thread here instead of putting it someplace it won't be noticed.
I'm making this thread cuz it could be interesting to chat about the changes to the items we all know and love from the original FFTA to the sequel.
As you may, or may not know, many items have changed from FFTA to FFTA2. One of such is the sword know as "Excalibur 2". In FFTA, Excalibur2 was a very powerful sword and it had other stats that made it a good choice. In FFTA2 however, there is a sword that has the exact same icon as the one I previously mentioned but its name is "The Fallen Angel". I still haven't looked up if the stats are the same but their icon sure is (which leads me to believe it's the same weapon). Right?
There's also an item on both games called "Magic Ring" but, for some oddball reason, they don't do the same thing in each of those games. On one of them (FFTA), all it does is grant you a small boost to magic attack and defense. In FFTA" however, it also protects you from the status effect (aka debuff) known as "Berserk". Weird change, wouldn't you say? At least I thought so...
So what do you all think? Do you like any of the changes? If so, post and tell us which item was made better and which do you hate now that it has been modified.
I for one, hate the angel ring now. It was AWESOME before but now? I soon rather cast "reraise" instead of equipping one of those pieces of cr@p. rolleyes It's just not worth it to go making it on the bazaar since it was stripped down of all the things that made it such a great item in the past game. Does anyone agree with me? Or do I have to go to another guild? he-he xd

XD No need. The reason it was watered down was because its easily gotten now. I personally have four (and they've saved my behind on several occasions.
Also, a lot of weapons and armor were renamed. Quite a few (course my memory fails at life). Most of the Katanas have new names, for instance. The dual-wield weapon was renamed "Rangetsu-denbu" which is STILL NEED! D: I just need screamroot! lnsDJV MDvdjnggaksdnfm crying
I really detest some of the new laws and I despise the auctions! MOVE EXACTLY ONE SPACE!!! My butt! (I did fine that mission, it was the MOVE EXACTLY THREE SPACES that killed me. Stupid CHARM trap! scream ) The auctions make me angry, I can't bid to save my life. As soon as I unlocked the ability to buy tokens I owned since I just bought 3 5-coins per area. WIN! Now I'm region champ everywhere except one. ~Pokes Grazton~ Jerk.

All right! Someone finally answered! I can't believe it went so long before I saw a reply on here. Sorry about that but it's been like a ghost town in here. xp I suppose that's a good reason for them to rename a weapon and even modify it somehow. Still, some of the previous accessories were awesome and they kinda stink on the sequel. Like I said, the "Angel Ring" used to be my favorite item and it was definitely not easy to obtain. I don't know why they changed it so much cuz, it's not easy to obtain the materials needed to make one of those and I have yet to see a unit equipped with one. And if there was, I can't recall who was it. The thing that annoys me the most is that the effect of "Raise" & "Re-raise" has been changed to the point that a single attack can KO the unit that was brought back by it. Granted that with Raise you can actually choose a remote location to bring back the unit at but, it's just not worth it. It's much better to cast "Arise" cuz you can be sure the unit will come back with all of his/her HP. BTW, now that we're on the subject, what does everyone think of the fact that units no longer remain on the spot they were KOed in? I used to like having someone to have my back, sort of speak. It was great dealing the final blow on an enemy cuz if there was nothing around to protect your back, there was at least the body of the unit you just KOed. I suppose they did that cuz the judge is not present in the battle and can't be bothered to check the status of the fallen units on his turn. There's so many things I loved about the first game that aren't in this one. One thing is for sure, there are some nice things about this sequel that make me want to play it again like: * Every unit earns AP after battle. I used to dislike having to wait so long for every one of my units to master everything. * After battles, units can master abilities, right? Well, I love how each one that has mastered something leaps up and down at the unit info screen. That tells me right away who I have to check up on so I can change the equipment right away. So, does anyone have anything to comment on what we've said so far? Have something to add yourself? Go ahead and post then!

I like that everyone earns AP too. It makes mastering abilities easier.
I REALLY dislike the auctions though. I can't express how much I dislike the auctions! ~radiates with pure hatred~
Yeah, I don't even bother bringing people back to life now, they just get killed immediately. I try and hide them where the enemy can't get to them, but noooooooooooooo!!! Jerks! All of them!
I do like the loot idea. It's fun. :3 I love gathering materials and making things in video games. biggrin I just got the Rengetsu-denbu and as soon as Luso earns 10 more AP, he can switch to Ninja and equip it. Although, I like to keep Learning on him...well, just for monster battles I suppose. XD
And I LOVE Spellblades! They are my new favorite class! They damage and inflict a status ailment at the same time! AND they're really friggin strong! My Spellblade was a good 10 levels below the rest of my party....she did just as much damage as them. She almost always gets MVP!
By the way, what does MVP do? I noticed a bar fills up, what what's that?

I'm glad you liked that too. I wish the third installment (if they make one) can be more like the original tactics (on the GBA) and have the coolest features of the sequel like, everyone gains AP after battle. That would be so much cooler and it would improve upon perfection. I mean, I already thought FFTA was perfect just the way it was but, it really wasn't. Ha-ha! Sorry, I didn't mean to laugh but, it's just funny to see how much you hate the auctions. I used to hate them too but it's the only easy way to get cool items now like the "Ninja Tabi" or the "Ribbons". And I got so much better at them now so, I only dislike them. sweatdrop Right! I usually make most of my units target a healing unit first so, I suppose the AI units do the same also. That's why I never bother with lousy abilities like Raise anymore. They're not even good in the very beginning and they don't even make that weapon available till you have advanced in the story quite a bit. It's weird I tell ya! Oh yea, I liked the loot thing too. It's too bad the lazy programmers didn't make it so you could at least trade loot. I mean seriously, you can only get a raffle ticket for a so called "trade"? WTF!? scream What's the freaking point of a "trade" option if you can't trade jacksquat!? It's stupid I tell ya, stupid! I hope they learn from these mistakes or I ain't buying another sequel. Ah yes, the lovely Spell blades. They're like Elementalists only a bit better, me thinks. I like how they can work with double cast too cuz, if they hadn't been made compatible with that spell, I don't think they would be as awesome. Don't you like oilblade? The only thing I don't like is that it's quite difficult to inflict status on the opponents now, even if you have "concentration" equipped. BTW, MVP is some sort of thing that is especially useful for sending units on Dispatch missions. If the character yer sending has a high tower, it has lots more chances of finishing that mission successfully. Ever noticed how some missions now have multiple spots for other units to go as well? Well, if you make the leader be a unit with a low MVP tower, it will make them most likely to fail it. If the leader has a high MVP tower like yer spellblade, you shouldn't worry about sending them; it's most likely they will succeed. The leader should also jump up and down before sending the party, of course. mrgreen

I hope so too. And I hope they bring back Marche. I'm not Luso's biggest fan.
Yeah, I'm really sucking at the auction thing. I didn't get a single Ribbon or Ninja Tabi from the last one. I just got stuff I already had.
I usually target the biggest threat to me. Or the closest, take your pick. Raise saddens me at this point. The Angel Ring does so little now. crying
I haven't tried trading and I likely never will.
I actually just mastered Spellblade, I'm thinking about making her an Assassin now so her Speed caps (if possible) and dual her Spellblade abilities. I actually don't know what "Oil" does....every time I use it it does NOTHING! gonk
I don't have too many problems inducing status'. It saved me my first time doing Brightmoon Tor, tower 1. Level 90's.....maybe I should try that Blue King mission now.
Ahh! So that's what that is. Awesome, thanks so much! biggrin My Spellblade is the most Awesome of Awesome!

You know, I was never a big fan of Marche to be honest. I'm not a fan of Luso either but at least he's not a girly boy, he-he. I gotta say though, I hope that if there IS a sequel, we can edit our main character. Aren't you tired of playing as a boy Marth-chan? Don't you wish you could play as a girl for once in FFTA? That would give the game a heck of a lot more replay value cuz I would be interested in playing as both genders as I did on Legend of Mana. You know? That's too bad, but if you stick to the strategy I suggested ( save one day before an auction and then move into any town, check out the prizes and if you don't see a Ribbon or a Ninja Tabi, reset and try again) you should be fine. One thing though, I usually check out the first 3 towns before I reset the game. If Moorabella is the last town you check and it has nothing good, you better reset. 3nodding Exactly! I just don't get why they create an item that is so amazing on the first game, just so they can water it down extremely in the sequel? Is that a good way to treat loyal fans? I'm really disappointed... Gee buddy, that's awful. I feel bad for ya... IF only they had made this game so we could have at least Wi-Fi trading like Rune Factory 2. Cheer up buddy! I just sent you a description of what Oil does in my last PM reply. wink Really? That's nice for ya cuz I usually end up missing. Maybe my luck just stinks... Yer welcome! I figured out about the MVP tower but after I read the instruction manual. I bet you never read yers, huh? wink I bet that spellblade of yers can finish any dispatch mission successfully, yes? Doesn't anyone else have an item that they loved only to see it reduced to a mere useless trinket now? Or how about the opposite? A useless item that was enhanced this time around? Please don't be shy and post!

Ok, first off, I have to say, I like Luso WAY better than Marche. I get so tired of all these main characters whining all the time, and being depressed all the time, and internal conflicts and blah blah blah. Luso was a prankster, he was wild, he wanted to have fun! He had spunk, he had PERSONALITY!!!! I'll take Luso over Marche any day. At least they're both better than Montblance...Uggh.
And I liked Auctions! Of course, I also know how to win them with little to no effort. The key is to always stay one ahead of everyone else. And watch what they're going to do. Oh, and stock up on coins/tokens/whatever they are before an auction. They're pretty easy with the right prep, really.
Spellblades, yes, yes, yes. Of course, you all know I like Viera, Red Mages, Elementalists, and hybrids in general, so it shouldn't come as that much of a surprise. I actually like quite a few of the classes. I love Gria, even if they only have 4 classes, they're still brutal as all get out. I also like what they've done with Bangaaa. They're no longer terribad. Heck, I even use moogles! No, all the races have something to offer me now.
The one quip I have with the game is the fact that there's a green mage now. I've always been against green magic. I still think it should be split between Black/White, but that's just me. Time magic is ok since it's so different from Black Magic, but Green should stay split. Yuck.
Aside from that, I feel like there's a lot more synergy between classes, and you can really come up with some interesting things if you look for it. Spellblade Assassins are just...wrong...
Was that enough fr you Hypno? =P

Really? I suppose I could agree with you there. It seemed to me that Luso wasn't so bad to begin with. Though to be honest I would have done things differently on certain missions but, what the hey! Guess what? I kinda like Montblanc better than Marche. It's too bad Montblanc or his brother can't be chocobo riders, what's up with that? BTW, what did you think of Montblanc's brother? I thought he was cooler than his bro but, maybe that's just me. Say, how can you prep for auctions when you are barely starting out? Cuz when I was starting, I could never get the hang of it. I finally got it though but it took me about 2 or 3 auctions before I was able to tell what the others were about to do from their poses during bidding time. I hear that! I like the Canoneer job myself cuz you don't have to use an ability like the Fusiliers do. And I like how many MP they can help recover with their ability. I mean 60 MP is a pretty good amount and it helps a lot when you want to use an illusionist ability, even if you are using MP Turbo. Hmm, I'm kinda torn with the green mage myself. On the one hand, they allow you to move one more space but, most of their other abilities have been taken from previous jobs and I don't like that. Wasn't "Sleep" a Red Mage job ability? They also took shell and protect from the white mage and stuck them to the green mage for some reason. You know, I haven't tried spellblade assassins yet... Thanks for posting Emmi-chan but, I was hoping for you to also comment on some of the items I described already, or maybe another item that you noticed changing for the best or worse. You know? Maybe next time... mrgreen

Aww. I liked both Marche and Montblac...I had a good Montblac by my standards. <3 I prefer characters who are for the most part calm and open-minded (A.K.A. Most Fire Emblem Lords. The exceptions are Micaiah (who was crap) and Ike (Who was Awesome!). Marche's personality was okey, but I liked his character design. It was hard to tell what his gender was. I like playing as a girl, so having a girly guy works fine for me. Montblac was cute. Now he appears to have more of a personality than the previous game so I can't flipping wait to get him! Although, I don't know if I can get him since I don't think I did the Yellow Wings sub-quest which means I can't get the Cups...which means I can't get Montblac. Which makes me really really really angry!!!!! My problem with Luso is that he's too rushed, I think. I realize that that's because he has lots of energy, but it makes the game seem rushed. I don't really like any of the other characters too, except Hurdy and Al-Cid. They're okey. No, I didn't......Well. Kinda. I flipped through it. I went straight to the guide that had been pennied out for information...but it had nothing about actual battle. And a few miss-prints too. XDD I like stocking up before the auctions too. I dislike the auctions with every fiber of my being so I want to get through them with as little hair pulling as possible. Spellblade Assassin is what I'm planning to do with my girl. As soon as I master Fencer, she's going to Assassin and staying there until her level maxes out. :3 She'll be a Speedy Assassin of AWESOME! Though after she maxes, I may change her back to Spellblade since I like the artwork and sprite better. I too am more interested in other jobs too. I'm sorry hypno, but I'm still no fan of Bangaa....they're just not fast enough for me. Same with Nu Mou, but they have very interesting classes. I'm very interested in Scholar and Arcanist, though I have neither right now. I'm interested in Chocobo Knight too, but I want to do the ranchers requests before I settle down with a Chocobo Knight. I like Seers too. Those abilities saved Luso so many times and as always, I adore Blue Mage! Green Mage is a litte Eh...but I like the character art for it. The Summoner artwork is nice now too. And Spellbladeeeeeeee! My new favorite class!

That's good, that you have a fine Montblanc I mean. I gotta say, I couldn't get mine to be very speedy so I actually had it die at a Jagd, he-he. And that was on my second file cuz my first file had to go bye bye. Anyways, on my third file he finally has decent speed cuz I made him level up as a thief on many levels. At least the stat gains hasn't changed much between games, has it? I mean, Assassins are still the fastest Viera and thieves get good speed gain, right? Hey Marth-chan! You should have Montblanc in the party if you ever decide to participate in a final cup. I can't quite recall the name of it but it can be taken after most of the cups. Get this, the enemies on that cup are Montblanc's old clan members and they have a rather neat conversation before the battle, you shouldn't miss that if you like Montblanc. If you like, I can find out the name of that cup for you. 3nodding I'm with you! I like Hurdy (forgot the name) and Al-Cid just fine. But I also like the sky pirate Penelo. She is drawn in such a sexy way that it almost makes me wish I had a girlfriend like that. Almost, he-he... mrgreen Isn't it odd? That out of 2 mods here one loves the auctions and the other one hates them? I'm so-so about the whole thing to be honest. I used to dislike them but as soon as I got the hang of them I'm not as against them as I used to be. It's ok, I don't blame you for not liking the Bangaa. I use them cuz the Nu Mou are also slow, and most of the times slower than a bangaa so, before my Nu Mou can use an illusionist spell, I make my Canonneer replenish 60 MP on it and viola! I can attack all my enemies without wasting turns. I like that! BTW, don't you hate how some weapons and items were completely changed now? Before, I used to do lots of damage with a black robe equipped cuz it enhanced black magic damage. Also, if you had a Princess Rod, it enhanced damage done by Wind, Water and Earth. I used to own the battlefield with those two items equipped on my Illusionist (as long as it had Turbo MP). It was amazing! Now it's like, what the hell happened!? I don't understand why they took the "Enhancing" part out of some weapons or armor. Who's with me on this? That's a good idea buddy! You should definitely get all the rancher's requests missions before changing jobs to chocobo knight permanently. I also made sure that the moogle had all abilities of all jobs mastered. A while ago I was trying to find a red chocobo for him but it seems that the most useful one can only be found on a certain desert but I don't know during which month. I hear that if you beat it or capture it, you get another Scion Summoning Item. Cool, huh? I hear that! I like the artwork for Green Mage too. Viera sure do look very attractive as such, don't they?

Hypno, the red chocobos can be found in the Kthili Sands (It's on the western continent) during the month of... Ashleaf, I think? It's the month when the auctions take place, which is a pain for the auction-lovers (Like me. I'm keeping the Camoa region at all costs.).
As for taming a Red Chocobo and getting a Scion item out of it, I really doubt that.
I found I liked the artwork for the Green Mage, as well. I completely agree with you on that. xd
You got the name right, it's Hurdy, but I found I didn't like Al-Cid that much. I find Cid much better.
I'm currently trying to master Spellblade for my Viera, then switch her over to Assassin.
For Montblanc you need to have the Earrings of the Dead, the Gigas Pendant, and the Pin of Order, I believe.

Thanks Dugra! I already knew about the area they appear in but, I still don't know in which month and I looked during the first few days of every month. So far, I only found one and I can't remember where. The point is, I gave that red one to the chocobo super fan and I was very disappointed in the so called "Reward". rolleyes Let me see... I think I did see a red chocobo with some monsters but I don't recall what month it was. I was just exploring and I didn't save cuz I wanted to investigate what sort of monsters would appear. If I had saved, I would have missed on the deadline of a mission so, I'll do the mission and check that area again. Let me just see what month it was... ...Will you look at that! If it isn't the month of Ashleaf as you said!? The name of the monster that appears on the map (for those of you interested in finding a red chocobo) is the "Burning Soul". I found them on the 4th day of Ashleaf and it seems as though the monsters in the party are: 2 bombs 1 grenade 2 pit beasts and of course, the red Ostrich, ha-ha! rofl In order to get the red chocobo that gives you the Scion item, you need to do the following: *Go to Goug during the month of Ashleaf; I'm pretty sure the earlier you go, the better. * Look for a monster encounter by the name of "Of a Feather"* After defeating all of the chocobos (you should see 4 yellows and a red one at level 99) or mounting the red one, you should win the scion summon item at the end of the battle. Easy! Right? Yeap! the art of the Green Mage is pretty cool. Good to see we're not alone on that. I gotcha! I would like Al-Cid much better if he at least had a reaction and a passive ability. He's kinda lame without any of them... Best of luck with that! You are correct! I got all those items but it still took time for me to recruit him.

Hey Skarlis! Nice to see ya posting here. So you want to know about the story behind the sequel? I wouldn't be so excited about buying this one. Unless maybe you loved the first one to death (kinda like me). I was really disappointed in many things but at least there are a couple of new features that make playing this entertaining. Here's what I liked: 1. Some old characters make cameo appearances like Mewt and Ezel. You can still recruit Montblanc but don't expect any of the other characters to appear here. 2. I liked the new system for AP gaining and knowing who have mastered what ability. What do I mean by this? Well... for starters, do you remember that you only saw a message after battles telling you who had mastered what ability? If you pressed the button too fast, there was a chance of missing the name of the unit and it made a bit harder to remember which unit to make changes to. Now the units jump up and down in the unit menu and it's much easier to know who has mastered what. Also, every unit gains AP now, not just the ones you bring in the battle. There are a lot of downsides though and the most annoying one for me is that only after each battle the units get experience, instead of right after performing an action like it used to be. That's awful cuz it takes a hell of a long time to get them to the highest level. Those are my two cents anyway...
