 It was a beautiful evening, peaceful, quiet, the sky clear as far as he could see, stars as brilliant as the moon shining on his dark pelt. The dark lion smiled to himself, blue eyes peaceful as the night that surrounded him, reflective as calm water.
How his life had changed, and though much time had passed he could not help but pause in wonder at times. It seemed like only yesterday he had returned to the lands of his birth, that he had crossed paths with the beautiful lioness who had claimed his heart, that they had started their home and family together. And yet though time seem so brief, he could not remember his life without that lioness, without the beautiful children they had raised together, he could not even imagine such a life.
And time moved on, it seemed in a blink the children had grown, had begun to find their own paths, and had children of their own. In that time he had grown gray, white sneaking in among the black, littering his hide like stars in the night sky.
On such a beautiful night, surely he was not the only lion looking up at the stars, wondering where the time had gone, how it passed so quickly and yet at times it seemed an eternity. Nor was he likely the only one thinking of one thing that would make the night perfect, sharing such beauty with the lioness he loved.

The lioness had been resting in the sun before it had been replaced by a blanket of darkness with the bright stars shining for all to see. She smiled to herself, it was beautiful. She stared at it for a little while, a smile on her maw before she shifted her weight and stood up slowly. Tonight was beautiful and she knew who she should be with on a night like this.
She raised her head to sniff at the air, the light breeze carrying the scents of many animals and there was also the scent of the one she wished to see. Moving at a steady slow speed she walked in his direction, glancing up at the sky with her round eyes.
It didn't take her as long as she had expected to find her mate and wondered if her nose was failing her or whether she just got carried away thinking about the beauty of what was around her, the beauty her children beheld and the beauty that shone from her mate.
"Bushido." She spoke his name gently and softly as she walked towards him. It was bearly above a whisper but on this quiet night it wouldn't have surprised her if he had heard her.

Ears turned, catching the sound of gentle footsteps, the hint of a whispered word. A smile spread across his maw, lighting in his eyes as his gaze fell on that familiar form, the one who had always been at his side, had shown him the meaning of life and love.
"Kani."
A soft purr as he rose to his paws, stepping to meet her. His head lowered, his muzzle brushing against her cheek, a soft and gentle embrace, cherishing each moment they shared.
"I had hoped you'd find me. The stars are far to beautiful to not share the night with you."
A soft breeze rustled his mane, carrying with it the scents of the pridelands, the land at rest. On this night, only one creature need exist, none other mattered. Now, the night was perfect, a quiet sigh of contentment.

She smiled and let out a purr as he embraced her. His touch was the most amazing feeling one could ever feel. It was just so perfect.
"I am surprised you didn't come and find me." She spoke gently though there was a light in her eyes that only Bushido could spark. Oh how her heart felt as if it had managed to escape from her chest every time she was with him. There was something about being around him that could make her act almost cub-like.
She moved to be closer to him and leant against his side a little and looked up at the stars. This was the perfect night, together, side by side. It was how it should be.

"I would have, had you not found me first."
A quiet sigh, he settled at her side, his chin resting atop her head, tail flicking to catch hers. There was a time not so long ago when moments like this seemed all too rare, stolen like fugitives in the quiet of darkness, in those early dawn hours when she would wait for him to return from his patrol, only to be broken by a young voice, a cubbish paw, a child demanding attention.
And yet he would not have traded that time for anything in the world. Watching their children grow, the sound of small paws and joyful voices that had filled their lives and captured his heart. Now in the silence, he realized he missed it, they had grown before he realized it, and now there were the pawsteps of the next generation.
"Did you ever think the stars could be so beautiful?"
As he spoke, he had shifted, his gaze seeking those beautiful pale eyes he had fallen for, they shone more beautiful than any star.

She smiled as he spoke, she knew he would have found her it was nights like that you just had to be with the one you loved and so they would have seeked each other out, one way or another.
"I always knew they were beautiful, though they look even more so tonight." She smiled looking up at the stars shining above them. There were so many of them dancing around the sky. She wondered if they were a huge family living a stars life up in the sky watching them on the ground. She let out a soft sigh. She missed her children. They were around of course but so big now. They lived on their own and, she missed them.
"It's so quiet." She had to comment on it. Nothing seemed to be moving tonight apart from the stars up there in the sky. It was strange but they were so beautiful. They were a pleasure to look at, that was for sure.

"It is."
The depth of the silence struck him as it had not before. Had he simply not paused long enough to feel it, or was it simply that much stronger on such a still night as this?
A soft smile, his head resting again against his mate. Did her thoughts follow his? Had she too thought of the time that had passed, of the children that had grown, remembering the sound of many voices? Had that been a touch of sadness he heard in her voice?
A paw raised, settling atop one of hers, a comforting gesture, his body curled against hers. How he loved her, she was his moon, and he her stars, and with each day that passed, that bond grew stronger, love felt deeper. Each day, each moment, that passed was precious, and however there lives had changed, and how they had aged, it was always a wondrous journey.
"What are you thinking of?"

She was in a way thinking the same things as he was but maybe in a different way. She missed the little cubs running around though she adored the more time she had to spend with her mate. She loved to spend more time with him but she missed having the family so close and together so much. In fact there was much she missed but much she liked having now too. It was just the way of life.
"What I am thinking?" She looked up at him and nuzzled him a little before looking back up at the sky.
What was she thinking? Well about family.
"I am thinking about our family. It seems still so strange to have them moving on starting families of their own. I miss having them so close all the time." She smiled and let out a soft sigh. They were still close she knew that but not in the same way. She loved her family. She also didn't spend enough time with her father or winding up her brother. Yes she would have to do some of that more as well.

His eyes found hers again, a quiet smile. He understood, he felt the same, had thought those same things many times, more often with each day that passed. The quiet was peaceful, time devoted to only his beloved mate. And yet it was also empty, filled with echoes he only heard in his memories.
"Time always moves on, whether we are ready for it or not."
Was any parent ever ready? Ironic that childhood seemed an eternity for the young, and yet it passed in an instant for the old. Their children must have once thought they would never grow up, that they would remain cubs forever. And yet for him, they had grown up all too quickly, seeming to remain cubs for only an instant before they had gone. Time was cruel that way.
"They are strong, full of life. I could not be prouder of them, or of you. And perhaps, the silence will fade again."
They were not yet past their prime, while he had grown older he was not yet too old. He was certainly not opposed to the idea of more children.

She looked up at him again, her eyes staring into his. He was right, she knew that and there was no denying the fact that having more moments like these were just the most perfect times ever but yet it was so quiet, there cubs had grown and were having cubs of their own. It was a strange feeling to know that she was a grandmother and something about it seemed a little odd but yet it was a wonderful feeling.
"Maybe the silence will fade..."
She looked back up at the sky, watching all the stars shimmering up in the dark black sky. Everything seemed so perfect and so odd all at once but she was happy, she was content, she had her Bushido.

A gentle nuzzle as his head lowered to rest against hers again. There was no need to say anything else, he understood as she did. Time moved on, as it always had, as it always would, and someday soon their grandchildren too would be grown. But through that time, they had each other, they had their love, and though their children may have grown, they were not gone, there was always time to share.
He sighed quietly, shifted against her side to make himself comfortable. Such a quiet night, still, calm. He could have stayed there all night with his mate by his side, sleeping under the stars, and intimate moment shared beneath the glow of the moon as they had on that night they'd first met.
It truly was amazing, how time had passed, how his life had changed. He could have never asked or hoped for a better life, for a more precious mate, for more beautiful children. At her side, whatever may fall, whatever may pass, he truly had found paradise.
"I love you."
