Hi, this guild's been a bit run down lately, so in remembrance of those times, I'm starting a new character, and I thought it might be a good idea to put a blog on here about it (however much a blog about ANYTHING is a good idea, but this guild needs some gimmick to get it by, as does the Oblivion guild)! Now, some ground rules on this blog -

1. I will be updating every month, NOT EVERY WEEK. Don't b***h about it, it's not your blog.
2. this character is a fresh faced, just-off-the-boat character, starting from Seyda Neen level 1, and shall be leveling normally unless the progression at that point has been fairly boring and I start screwing around with the console (hmmm, Balmora looks a bit boring this evening, *looses AoE arrow, activates god mode and has fun* for example).
3. Feel free to comment (it is of course a free-thought guild after all, was last time I was on anyway [we're not suppressing free speech, are we Taylor?]), but if you're just spamming, I'll start some spamming of my own, or I'll get the mods to make it a mod and me comment only topic. (you guy's would do that for me right?)

If i think of any more rules I may have forgotten then I"ll post them later. Otherwise have fun all and wait for the first installment! (gotta find time to make this character). In the meantime, think of what you want me to be, I'm willing to take suggestions from the community (so long as it's not any prmary magic class, you just can't do it in Morrowind.).
So feel free to post your class suggestions here for now. His name is Greflon Horthas, so don't even bother trying to confince me to change the name.

signing off,
Greflon

Fully Monk it up dude! Out heal them bichez, turn the undead, smack 'em with sticks, murder that guy in Mournhold for his white robe, you know, the prophet guy.

That would be wicked! biggrin

nah, see, I was more leaning to either a Dark Elf/Redguard Skirmisher, or full-out Rogue/thief character. I already said that I wasn't doing any sort of magic thing because I tried doing a mage and it failed. Epically. It's just far to exacting and the character too fragile to be of any fun/enjoyment (the magic system in this game is rather poor, but I could probably find a mod that does away with that and gives me oblivion-similar stuff.

Always thought about a paladin, but ya know, it's much easier to take sword, bow and call yourself a skirmisher (sort of justifies taking sneak, but taking light and medium armor sort of justifies that too).

What do you guys think (for those who are actually here, and I suppose spud too, though I think I know what he's already gonna say, RE ^^^above^^^)

but back to blogging! thought I'd post what mods I'm using, and in short it's all the official mods and the complete morrowind Tribunal and Bloodmoon. In long... eh, I couldn't be bothered, look it up you lazy b!@#$%^s, shouldn't be that hard. Oh, and I'm also using the Lord of the Dragons mod. If you don't know about that, you should be enlightened to it, then shot for not knowing about it sooner (not talking fatal wounds here, but just something like a warning... twisted )
I haven't even started yet, So that's what I'm gonna do. Post what you think would be a good class, but I'll try to flesh it out and post accordingly.

note - actual blog notes are highlighted in green, but my comments to other comments are just in normal black (if you hadn't figured that out already, but you people are smart, I'm sure you deduced that already
blaugh

edit - I realise what my sig says, but that's for WoW, a completely different game where all you have to do to get to the same state from where you died is a short walk/float to your body. Bit different in MW.

EDIT - Since I started my monk, I went and found morrowind enhanced along with combat enhanced (a must for a good combat experience), as well as monk, magicka regen and dodge. Picked up A Call to Isslar and Ald Indoril as well, in case I get bored.

Hello again happy (or not so happy, I don't honestly have a clue to your current disposition) readers! How are we today! Wait, don't answer that. It's OK, cause I finally got to start a profile and begin my dreary (and long) assent to immortality and chicks (OK, so maybe not so much the chicks, but if I remember the storyline correctly, there's definitely immortality there somewhere......)

So, first, Character Creation. I'm honestly not sure which will take more work, print-screening the stats and loading it to somethin glike photobucket or simply typing it out, so I'm just gonna type it out (with added notes here and there)

Name - Greflon (meant to be Greflon Horthas [see race below] bacause he was originally gonna be a Redguard but that changed to Dunmer and the name didn't, might change it later with the console xd )
Race - Dunmer
Class - Nerevarine (I wrote a class description and all, but I'm not gonna type it out now, can't remember most of it, but it's fairly long-winded)
specialization - combat
main attributes - Strength, Endurance
skills - Long blade, block, heavy armor, marksman, sneak, security, acrobatics, athletics, speechcraft and mercentile.
Starsign - The Lady

I thought that I should go for a Stealth/combat hybrid, just in case I got bored of one style and wanted to do the other. went for the classes and traits that got me the least amount of skill points to start off with so I could get to a higher level later on.

SO, with my character, I started on my s**c story out into the land of Vvardenfell and the glorious future that awaited me (and the riches and fame that such things come with). did the usual things - gave fargorn his ring (yes I do that, cause the trader give you better deals on stuff, you can also negotiate prices better when bartering, so stfu you mean P!@#$S), went into addamanstartus, (half cleared it, get to that later) stole the ring and gold back, helped some poor sap trying to get out of town, and solved the mystery of the tax collector's murder (though I told the census guy there was nothing on the collector, and just went and got the murderer to confess, netted another 200 gold blaugh ) but by that time the dude ran out of money, and it's normally at this junction that I normally wait a full day for him to replenish his stocks of cash, but I didn't feel like waiting, so I left the bandit cave half explored (freed the slaves, killed the bandits and got [most] fo the loot), but didn't explore the back half) and trudged my a** to Pelagiad.

Here I bought more armor, better weapons (including a silver longsword) and made some more gold. Don't even bother with the bandit cave near here at this point, cause there's a big w!@#e on the bridge that simply beats me senseless with a claymore every time I try (when I did it on my redguard on x-box, I had to use all my potions and adrenaline rush, as it was I died bacause adrenaline rush faded and I was below my normal max health >< go figure), so I just continue through to Balmora via the back road the one that curves off and yo don't have to go through that ash-valley thing, nor do you walk past the fort.

I go this way bacause of the mine along this path, Vassir-Ashinad (think that's it's name...) once you explore it, you get a journal reading, saying you've found a strange mine, (oh, and I take some of the ebony, if only to make some ebony armor later) and you can go to the lady in the Haalu Great Hall in Balmora saying you've found this mine and she tells you to go find one of the councilors to tell about this. I always go see the dude in the haunted mansion on one of the saint's quarters bacause he gives you a choice of weapon to take. generally I take either the longsword or the bow (or the Katana and change it to 'always use bast attack) and presto! instant Daedric weapon. and you didn't even have to do much to get it either. and if you're smart you've taken some ebony from the mine too.

But before that I'm getting to Balmora and handing in the first part of my main quest - talking to Crassius Cossades and getting recruitment into the blades. then I'm gonna set up shop in Ald'ruun and join House Redoran (cause it's just easier, there's a forge in the Ald'ruun fighter's guild so it's easier to keep reagents there then in Balmora, where I was on X-box, also a bigger room too, with more chests). Never join Telvanni though, even on my mage (if I had even managed to get that far with him) because there's a way to join that house through the storyline through a glitch, and using the computer, a way to get another item you need for that part. After all that though, might work on getting enough ebony to make the armor, or a sword. or might just try to level. or might try the Tribunal storyline (haven't been attacked yet, but haven't leveled yet either, which is slightly strange in my opinion, should've leveled by now I think...)

well, that about wraps up my first blog for this time, I'll try to get them once a month, (don't expect them to be this long again, ever) and I'll post to you all later. good luck and good looting!

Your last character was an all-rounder though.
Wouldn't it be better to make a fully retarded class/theme for your guy and stick to it for the entire game? More challenging and would make the blog much more fun! smile

yes, but I'm sure when I go to do something like take on a quest that's like, 10 levels higher than me and fail epically, I'm sure you'll all have a good laugh (well I know spud will, dunno about everyone else.... is there anyone else, or am I just talking to the wind?)

nonetheless, I gotta tell you going Dunmer rather than Redguard was tough, though I was taking hits from lvl 5 fire eles and shruging them off like they were flicking me (then of course it tried to beat me down and had no problem, only got like 20 armor atm, but that's a story for another time.)

Well intrepid adventurers, here we are at another update! seems I forgot how fast you level in this game, I'm already at level 5 (or was it 6...) and rising. Got me a full set of legionnaire armor (all steel of course, cause let's face it - what's better protection than strapping big plates of steel to your body?), got me an enchanted blade, and got me some smexy enchanted items (excluding aforementioned blade of course) - a belt which gives me protection in combat i.e. shield, sanctuary and something else (forget at the moment), got a ring or two, and got the fabled (or perhaps not, duno how many thieves are in the house) amulet of shadows, the essential instrument of stealth for any thief. How do you get one of these pretty trinkets, you ask? Well, it's not easy, and will probably have you tearing your hair out by the end, but it's worth it.

*SPOILER*
On the road between Gnisis and Ald Velothi, there's a poor woman who has appeared to drop her ring into the nearby pond. She can't go in, and you have to go look for it. So you go pick it up, and her and her friend turn around and start to gank you. Obviously this is the part where you get up, say politely 'stop that' and wtfpwn their face. I'd recommend at least lvl 10+ to do this comfortably, but I"m attempting this at level 4, and nearly died (in fact I did die a few times, twice I think, but I've played this game a few times). Alternatively, you can take the initiative and attack them first - don't worry, there's no guards around, they won't report you, and if you can't see the other assailant to start off with the lady near the lake (it's what I usually do, get the girl in the chitin armor and then finish the clothie off), but do whatever works for you. Either way, it'll drastically help you in perfecting your sneak skill - activate it, and sit on someone's a** for a few minutes stealthed - oh, and keep walking in and out of their detection range, I think that has a sharp increase to sneak if you do it successfully
*END SPOILER*

Also got a health-restorative shield, and that has come in handy on more than one occasion. either way, I'm coming along swimmingly, now just gotta wait till I get a job (or wait for uni to start... razz )
joined the fighter's guild and Imperial legion (it's how I got the imperial steel so quickly) and already as far as I can go in the legion as far as my abilities are concerned.

NOTE - I also wouldn't recommend jumping off the cantons in Vivec either (didn't die, but skin-a-cat-and-call-it-fine-cuisine it hurt!). Running and jumping around that place is also a good way to level without even doing anything if you're major/minor skills are athletics or acrobatics.

Next on the table - raid a dwarven town and loot some valuables (some jems maybe, some weapons, might even slay a machine or two). You know, the usual. Want to raid a Daedric ruin, but I only just managed to kill a daedroth by scaring it almost to death and finishing the job with my sword. Don't think I'm quite ready for that yet. Oh, that reminds me, have to get azura's star and goldbrand...and perfect my soultrap spell.

P.S. haven't even started the main quest yet, I usually like to get to head of one of the organizations before then, usually about level 20 I think.

I miss our hard core link up where we would all get bored of halo, or what ever. Mainly halo though, sometimes halo 2! smile And everyone would sleep but you and me, and we would stay up for hours playing Morrowind... We defiantly are the PRO'S at that game smile
PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2009 8:58 pm

Just a quick update (lol, when have my updates been quick...), just gonna b***h about some of the things I know we all abhor in this game we call Morrowind, but have either been too disgruntled/surly/annoyed to voice (or already have, just haven't been listened to on my part razz ). So without further ado, here's my list.

1. Cliff Racers.
I think this is pretty self explanatory, but it's also what forces my hand when I go to make a profile. I always tell myself "It's to make a hybrid - fill 'em full of holes as they approach and Slice'n'dice" right? DEAD WRONG. I made the startling realization the other day that while fending off the brown flying bastards that they are the ones that force me to take sneak and marksmanship as skills, so as to fend them off easier. Mind you, they're always a topic of hot debate and humor, so that's always an endearing quality that will stop me making a mod getting rid of the bastards from the face of Vvardenfell (though I'm sure if I searched, I'd find a mod that either got rid of or reduced their number.

2. Morrowind's executable stability (or lack thereof).
Now, I've been fortunate as to ahve played MW on the X-box and on the computer. I'll tell you now - THEY WERE BOTH AS STABLE AS A THREE-LEGGED DOG IN A CYCLONE. The only difference between them was as a game progresses, only then does it become more and more unstable on the X-box version. The computer version however seems to be in this three-legged state from the very moment you begin character creation. I had it glitch from stealing something before I was made a proper character, something I commonly do anyway without much problem before! It just seems ludicrous to me. The only blessing that computer has against this however is that I can quickly press F5 and I get a quick save. It's still annoying when you've swam from Sadith Mora to Azura's Shrine, only to have it glitch up on you when go go to enter the shrine itself.

they were my main tyrades, but I think I have a bit more in me.

3. Lack of fast travel
Call me a spoiled Oblivion brat if you will (Morrowind will still be my fave, but nehoo), but the two things I will miss from Oblivion are the fast travel system and combat system - in that order (I'll get to the combat in a sec, as well as why I hate the lack of fast travel system over the combat). Oblivion, in introducing Fast Travel to the series (no innovation by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly an improvement on the other games in my opinion) made the game in some places much quicker, however this was often balanced out by (and to some over-weighed by) the lack of further exploration given to the game by taking out the need to walk there yourself. This isn't so bad in Morrowind where there are many systems that let you travel between the towns (Silt Striders, Mages' Guild, Boats), however when you need to travel to some obscure location not graced by a fast travel service (eg. Azura's Shrine) then it became what some might term 'a PAIN in the a**'. Nonetheless, I'm sure someone's made some sort of mod to correct this, as well as some sort of mod that allows me to block at will (think it's called Aaelorn's blocking mod, but you need morrowind enhanced to use it) and fix combat in general, but get to that in a sec.

4. Crappy combat system
Again, another Oblivion-carryover quip, but one I thought deserves attention. It just doesn't seem right to just sit there swinging whatever you've got at a foe till either of you die. Yes, marksman needs someone who isn't completely pants-on-head retarded to play, but otherwise it's not much chop in my opinion. Again, there's mods to fix this, and I had them at one point but I've lost them. But it's not so much of a flaw that I feel the game feels broken without it being 'fixed'.

k, if there's anymore bitches I have with this game, I'll add them. What are some of your pet peeves with the game? I'd like to hear them.

Well. Ahem. Turns out I was wrong about one thing. I'm bored out of my skull trying to play this hybrid (again). So, to the betterment of my enjoyment (and subsequent failures and thus your enjoyment) I've decided to go with Spud's suggestion and make a Monk. I detail his stats below -

Name - Horthas
race - Breton
sign - the mage
Class - Shin-do monk
specialization - stealth
major attributes - agility, willpower
major skills - hand to hand, unarmored, acrobatics, athletics, sneak.
minor skills - mysticism, restoration, marksman, light armor, blunt weapon.

and there you have it ladies and gents. BAM! new character. All blogs will be centered around this character, not the other one, so don't go wondering 'where'd the other one go?', cause I've done it before and just isn't challenging anymore. Though, I must admit I surprised myself when in addarmastratus (think that's the name...) I was having a go at the caster in there. Nehoo, we're fighting a ranged battle and suddenly he bounces up to try to set me on fire. I say 'oi, none of that,' and as he reaches me, jump off the ledge I was on, cutting off his spell. Well, he didn't like that, and I think that along with the fact that he couldn't tough me at ranged either confirmed to him that I was PURE AWESOME and started running around in fear, as if you had used a demoralize spell on him. I personally couldn't believe it. I then preceded to beat whatever little life was left in him with my fists, blinding him then putting his nose through his brain.

On the flipside however, I got ownd by that highwayman on the road from Pelagiad to Vivec. Wasn't fun, happened repeatedly, even with my awesome new righteous spell (absorb health 10 pts) I couldn't keep up with his damage. Needless to say I'm coming back when I have 90 Hand to hand skill and snapping HIS neck like a twig. I'm even contemplating making a restore fatigue spell on target so I don't kill him accidentally beforehand.

Now off to help the needy and unfortunate as a lay servant in service to the imperial cult, fare thee well intrepid adventurers!

But no, no one listens to Spuddeh.

What's that he had an idea? How? I didn't think that was possible. Let alone it be any decent. Lets just ignore it shall we?

-few days later-

I vaguely remember something being said about a monk. Lets try it out.

OH SNAP! That was Spud's idea! eek
