Patch stood outside a small-mouthed cavern tapping her foot anxiously. The inside of the cave was large but the opening was only big enough for juveniles and cubs. There were holes in the roof so light poured into the cave in small beams. Though the cave was beautiful and mysterious, Patch wasn't even looking at it or thinking of it. She was watching the plains. Birds flew through the air but none of them were close enough to reach. Finally Patch saw a plump bird flying low to the ground. She pounced on him."Squawk! Don't eat me!"
"Eat you? No, of coarse not! I just need you to do me a favor. Go to the Ekala Adhāra pride and look for Kahawa. He's a juvenile like me. Now tell him that Patch is inviting him to explore a hidden cave past the river and to the left of the hills under the sunset. Think you can remember all that?"
The bird, still afraid for his life, agreed and flew off quickly.
