These are some characters who are open to anyone to use. They are involved with the Arena or Tartarus. When using them, keep in mind that some of them are fairly important. Don't go killing off Wulfgang in your opener, for instance.

Arena Staff

These NPCs are involved with the business side of the Arena. Under this category are Wulfgang, his goons, and anyone he's hired to keep things running smoothly.

User ImageName: Nicholas Wulfgang XI
Age: 38
Race: Werewolf
Occupation: Owns and runs the Arena, the city/plane of Tartarus and a great deal of other things.
Appearance: Six foot six with a wolf-like head and yellow eyes. Covered in thick, black hair and bulging muscles. Always wears tight fitted suits and a number of golden rings. Has terrible breathe.
Personality: Nick is a foul man with a mind only for money. He will do anything and everything to continue to make money and to make more of it. He treats his employees like crap, but he pays well enough. He has a quick temper and doesn't tolerate failure. To top it all off, he isn't much of a thinker.
Background: Werewolves pass their name through bite, not blood. Nicholas was the sole heir to another fortune when Wulfgang X sought him out. Nick then added his substantial holding to the already huge estate of the Wulfgang line.

User ImageName: Ringmaster
Age: Unknown
Race: Unknown, presumed human
Occupation: Ringmaster runs registration and publicity for The Arena.
Appearance: His skin is pale and his sunken eyes grow with sinister light. He dresses like a side-show ringmaster and has been known to carry a whip. His top hat is a purple monstrosity with a toothy grin.
Personality: Ringmaster is an unnerving fellow. His voice is aged and raspy, but his attitude is relatively bland. He has the emotional range of a glass of water. He speaks very little, if at all.
Ringmaster's hat, on the other hand, is quite the talker. It's voice is thick and sinister and it seems to love hearing itself. The hat is the real brains of the operation and only seems to need it's host for transportation and to avoid winding up in an obscure clothing store.
Background: It's not know what life, if any, Ringmaster had before he arrived in in Tartarus. Once he arrived, however, he quickly made a name for himself by organizing a fighting league in the city/plane's slums. Wulfgang XI had only recently taken over the estate and was looking for ways to make a lot of money. When he saw Ringmaster's success, he hired him and put him in charge of building The Arena. The rest, as they say, is history.

User ImageName: Chelsea Niles
Age: 27
Race: Human
Occupation: Head of Arena Security
Appearance: 6'0 with short, blond hair and green eyes. She is tan, athletic, and has a "don't make me angry" aura about her. Her right arm is a robotic prosthetic, but that doesn't appear to have slowed her down at all. She usually has a firearm obviously displayed at her side.
Personality: On the job, Chelsea is a cold and unforgiving force of regulation and order. She has to be, Wulfgang doesn't tolerate anything less. Of duty, however, you're likely to find her in one of the Arena's bars, chatting up the very people who's asses she's been busting all day. Most Arena regulars know this about her and try not to take it too personally when she comes after them. She's an excellent marksman, even drunk. She came in third in the Arena's annual shooting tournament while completely plastered. She'd won it sober the year before.
Background: Chelsea comes from a very wealthy family on some unnamable plane. Born with only one arm, her parents contracted the very best to build her a new one. Her father was a military man who taught her how to shoot and drink, while her mother isn't a topic she likes to talk about. Rather than joining the military like her father suggested, she found work as a bodyguard. She formed a reputation for her ability to be totally professional and still fun and was quickly passed from one important person to another. Eventually, she reached Wulfgang, who promoted her (some would say recklessly) to head of security.

User ImageName: Sheilo Agri
Age: 22
Race: Human
Occupation: Security Agent
Appearance: Stands at a stunning 4'11. His orange hair is always messed up and he only has that kind of suit; he seems to be always in that same suit.
Personality: It's unclear whether Sheilo had a learning disability or he's just over enthusiastic (Chelsea claims he's got more permanent damage than a simple "disability"). He is always strutting around the arena, twin pistols and badge proudly displayed. He is quick to resort to violence and likes to "call his moves." Such moves include "Skill Shot," "Six Gun Mayhem," and "Twin Shot."
Background: It's clear Sheilo is only on staff as a favor to someone. Wulfgang would have fired (perhaps even killed) anyone else for the kind of behavior he shows on a daily basis. Chelsea, more than anyone else, is determined to drive Shilo out of the arena by giving him the most difficult jobs she can think of. Wulfgang has not discouraged this.

Recruiters

This category is reserved for people who aren't directly employed by Wulfgang, but occasionally dig up a warrior or two for his fights.

User ImageName: Big Tut
Age: Ancient
Race: Mummy (Undead)
Occupation: Pimp first and foremost, with a little background in drug and small arms dealing.
Appearance: Tut's choice of purple clothing might be a little on the extravagant side, but no one would dare mention it to him. His eyes burn with malice and his bandaged body is stained with several centuries of bloodshed.
Personality: Depends on whether or not you're making him happy. Among fellow "businessmen" he's charming, but forceful. He's not the kind of man who takes no for an answer. When he's dealing with the endless stream of people who work beneath him, he's a ferocious menace. Those who fail him rarely survive the week. To work in Tartarus, you have to be heartless. Big Tut's is in jar in some long forgotten sphinx.
Background: Big Tut began his life as most mummies do: alive. He served as the head of his Pharo's harem. He did such a good job finding beautiful women that the Pharo ordered him mummified and buried a long with him. Many years later, a team of tomb raiders discovered a very irate mummy, unknowingly unleashing him into the world. He found his way into Tartarus by following the money and cheep labor. He's worked with Wulfgang for a couple of years now, supplying him with "entertainment" and the occasional gladiator.

User ImageName: "Sinful" Jezebel
Age: You want to ask?
Race: Succubus (Demon)
Occupation: Prostitute and Assassin (occasionally at the same time)
Appearance: A living, breathing avatar of lust, Jezebel is well-suited for her chosen profession. One look at her will make any red-blooded man overlooked the fact that she'll probably eat your soul. Long red hair, piercing red eyes, and horns. Oh baby.
Personality: Jezebel is cunning and manipulative. She'll be your friend as long as you're useful to her and not for a second more. Strong willed and self centered, Jezebel always has her own best interests at heart. No one, not even Big Tut, would dare try and "own" her.
Background: Born in the six hundred third level of the abyss, Jezebel played by Hell's rules for nearly five decades before deciding she'd be better off on her own. Since then, she's wandered the multiverse, sleeping and killing her way to the top. She's got her eye on Wulfgang's fortune, but his greed outweighs his lust. So Jezebel instead sends warriors to his blood sports, hoping one will return to her with the Wishing Stone.

User ImageName: Queen of The Gales (Real Name Unpronounceable)
Age: In the Air
Race: Elemental
Occupation: Controlling the winds
Appearance: Vaguely humanoid, The Queen of The Gales is a constantly shifting whirl of color and sound. Her voice, too, shifts in volume and pitch even as she speaks.
Personality: The Queen is a fickle mistress, know for lavish praise and unforgiving scorn. As an elemental, chaos is in the greater part of her nature and it shows.
Background: The Queen is one of many elementals claiming to have been on Tartarus since it's conception. Because of their chaotic essence, they were unable to rally against the people who claimed the plane as their own. Recently, the elementals have begun to push back as a small group of elementals rallies around a figure locally known as The Queen of The Gales. She sees the Arena and Wulfgang as the greatest obstacles in the elemental's fight and will entertain anyone who wishes to destroy them. Her influence is vast and anyone who shares her ideals can almost be guarantied a spot in The Arena.

User ImageName: Johnny "Blue Ears" Darkwood
Age: 235
Race: Dark Elf
Occupation: Arms Dealing, Underground Fighting Ring
Appearance: Johnny takes care of his appearance and always dresses well. His voice is smooth and charming with a hint of an exotic accent.
Personality: More so than anyone else in the poor areas of Tartarus, Johnny is a nice guy. He's willing to listen to any reasonable offer and authentically cares about the people in his domain. Don't confuse this with the guy being a pushover, though. If you cross him, it's best to find a new place to live.
Background: Johnny lead a large group of Dark Elves out of a collapsing plane about thirteen years ago. The group has always kept to themselves, so it's hard to say exactly how Johnny became their leader. What is known is that, shortly following their arrival, the elves began a ritual fighting competition called "The Pits." The competition was resticted to Dark Elves, which Johnny hoped would protect them from Wulfgang, but the werewolf still called for it to be shut down. Johnny met with the wolf himself and the result is obvious: now, the tournament is open to anyone on the plane and the grand prize is an opportunity to join Wulfgang's Arena.

Referees

The poor people Wulfgang has roped into judging his fights. In addition to handling violations of the arena's major rules (live ammunition and poison), most referees will also give out penalties for minor "Unsportsmanlike" violations which, though not technically illegal, are frowned upon. These include attacking a downed opponent, kicking sand in an opponent's eyes, and the like. Referees are ordered from the most strict to the most lax.

User ImageName: Psi-Eight
Age: 24
Race: Augmented Human
Strictness: Very Strict (in addition to calling any Major or Minor Violations, Psi-Eight's telepathic abilities allow her to know exactly when such an event occurs)
Preferred Matches: Earth, Cage
Details: Psi-Eight is a genetic experiment a previous Wulfgang bartered off a highly intelligent super-race. Her mere presence is deeply unsettling to everyone as one look at her will tell you she's reading your mind. She is capable of both telepathy and telekinesis and uses both with exceptional skill. She speaks in a blunt monotone, as if her amazing abilities have bored her to the world of average people.

User ImageName: Sir Tan
Age: 42
Race: Human
Strictness: Strict (Sir Tan will call any Major or Minor Violation which he sees)
Preferred Matches: Beast Pit, Cage, Battlefield
Details: Sir Tan is a noble knight who labors under the delusion that The Arena can be restored to an honorable field of combat. Exactly how he found himself employed by Wulfgang is a mystery, but what's more mysterious is the fact the Wulfgang actually seems to like him. Though he always calls minor infractions, Sir Tan can do little more than pitch a fit if the fighters choose to ignore him.

User ImageName: Dr. Malcolm Awful
Age: 36
Race: Human
Strictness: Strict (Dr. Awful will call any Major or Minor Violation which he sees)
Preferred Matches: Handicap, Air
Details: Dr. Awful is one of the newer additions to the Arena staff. His talent with machines and well above average intelligence have helped update The Arena for the Wishing Stone tournament. It also makes him quite useful in handicapping robotic and cybernetic competitors. He's a little naive and over enthusiastic about his job, but that will pass in time.

User ImageName: Lady Serpentus
Age: 32
Race: Snakefolk
Strictness: Average (will call Major Violations and blatant or repeated Minor Violations)
Preferred Matches: Water
Details: When she isn't working for Wulfgang, Lady S is a professional hostess. No, that is not a euphemism for prostitute and yes, she is offended by your assumption. She owns a catering business in one of the lesser planes that borders Tartarus and also teaches at a etiquette school she set up on the Demi-Plane itself. She hopes to provide jobs as hostesses as an alternative to working as hookers. As to how someone who teaches etiquette has become a judge for a fighting tournament... Your guess is as good as mine.

User ImageName: Kilia and AilikUser Image
Age: 24
Race: Cat-Girl
Strictness: Average (will call Major Violations and blatant or repeated Minor Violations)
Preferred Matches: Battlefield, Handicap
Details: Kilia and Ailik are alike in far more than just appearance and clothing. They are twin sisters with a shared taste for combat. They work together as referees and have been known to critique a poor sword stroke before calling a violation. They know combat and they know when you're doing it wrong. (As an aside, it's best not to mention "Lolcats" around them).

User ImageName: Victor Mortis
Age: Unknown
Race: Lich (Undead)
Strictness: Average (will call Major Violations and blatant or repeated Minor Violations)
Preferred Matches: Fire, Handicap
Details: Victor is surprisingly good-natured for a member of the undead. He's been known to join other members of the arena for drinks after matches. Don't let his laid-back nature fool you, though, Victor is a potent spell-caster. He's been known to block the power of demi-gods during handicapped matches and his hellfire is able to melt tempered steel.

User ImageName: Adam Terrain
Age: Old as Dirt
Race: Elemental
Strictness: Average (will call Major Violations and blatant or repeated Minor Violations)
Preferred Matches: Earth, Cage
Details: Adam, like most of Tartarus' resident elementals, has been on the Demi-Plane since it's creation. Unlike his brothers and sisters, however, he does not see the Wulgang line as invaders. In fact, he believes the Arena is an instrumental part of Tartarus' cycle of life and death. These are the reasons he gives when questioned about his employment, at least. Elementals are notoriously fickle and it doesn't take much to make one suspicious of a greater plot to destroy the Arena and Wulfgang from within.

User ImageName: Stevie Swelters
Age: 20
Race: Human
Strictness: Lax (Stevie will only call Major Violations, and even then only if he's paying attention)
Preferred Matches: Fire, Air
Details: Stevie is a loud-mouthed superhero from his home plane of Earth 114024G (Earth is somewhat notorious for it's sheer number of alternate realities). His primary concerns include "The ladies" and "The getting on of it with them." Wulfgang uses him mostly for publicity and for running personal errands through the oily rain of Tartarus. "You haven't seen funny," Wulfgang once remarked, "Until you've seen the look on that kid's face when he's wet."

User ImageName: Admiral Admirable
Age: 57
Race: Human
Strictness: Lax (The Admiral loves a good fight and will only call Major Violations)
Preferred Matches: Water, Battlefield
Details: Ad. Admirable (if that is his real name) is a retired veteran with numerous battles under his belt. At least, that's what he claims. It isn't known where these battles took place or if he even won them, but he certainly has the demeanor of a vet. Even the slightest remark may prompt him into a vague recounting of his "glory days."

User ImageName: MI-13 Remote Judging Unit
Age: N/A
Race: Robotic Probe
Strictness: Lax (MI-13s are only programed to recognize Major Violations)
Preferred Matches: The MI-13s are deployed in pairs for off site matches
Details: Designed by Wulfgang's top scientists to cover the wide field of an offsite match, MI-13s are notoriously unreliable and prone to failure. It's a good idea to avoid hitting them as they whirr around the fight, as one of them must declare you the winner. Should both units fail, the fight will be forced to continue without a referee until new units arrive. Obviously the opportunity for cheating is quite great in such an event.

User ImageName: The Magnificent Morbo
Age: 473
Race: Human
Strictness: Very Lax (Morbo is an alcoholic)
Preferred Matches: Beast Pit, Fire, and any other types where Wulfgang thinks he'll get hurt
Details: Most people think the worst thing you can do in Tartarus is to get on Wulfgang's bad side. This is not actually the case. The worst thing you can do in Tartarus is to get on Wulfgang's bad side and have the misfortune of being a neigh-immortal regenerate. Morbo once had a real name, but Wulfgang's seen to it that no one speaks it. Now he's nothing more than off-color entertainment in his blood sports. If a fatal accident could happen to him, it will.
