I was baptized as a Mormon in August. I decided to do this because I believe in most of the Church's beliefs.

However! I don't deny the possiblility of there being a Goddess, or other Spirits/beings/etc. to assist Heavenly Father. I also am open to ALL religions, and I have some non-Christian beliefs (Astral appendages and Spirit guides, for example. I mean, I have wings and a wolf is watching over me for goodness sakes!), and I believe in Faeries.

I also believe in Reiki, and I wouldn't mind participating in rituals and such.

It is my opinion that there are MANY paths to Heaven, and that it's not a bad thing to believe in multiple things. Of course, I'm not going to broadcast this to my Church, but I was wondering what you all thought.

I think that when you get right down to it there's really very little difference between the god of one religion and the god of another. Even in polytheistic religions, I think all the various deities are just different aspects and emanations of the One.

Personally I do not buy into the whole "one source" or creator idea. I do believe that many gods exist and I tend to view them in a similar light as they are portrayed in the work of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett; that is to say, they "live" on our belief like oversized egregores. Which does go to show why I don't feel the need to "grovel" in prayer.

Kind of makes you wonder how these super-sized constructs got started in the first place though.

Perhaps they were simply willed into existence. I mean, if the majority of the population on Earth believes it to be round, the roundness of Earth is considered truth even though those people could be wrong.

Also, we believe the sky to be blue when we are simply perceiving light and defining it as blue. It is then possible that if enough people perceive God to exist then he will become a part of our reality.

The point/idea I was trying to get at though was, why would we create these gods in the first place? And if we did indeed create these gods, then what bestowed upon us the ability for such creation, if anything?

I'm just musing.

how about that age old saying "we all need something to believe in"? Or we could go to known facts,.. to explain things we didn't know how to explain otherwize at the time. That seems to be the bulk of mythology anyways, explanation of natural phenomena and related issues (lightning isn't air-to-ground static, they're thrown by a powerful god!).

I think alot of it does have to do with explaining natural phenomenons. I also think that the reason why many gods were created by earlier humans was so they could concentrate on different aspects of themselves and get them think positively towards reaching a goal of theirs. For example, let's say a woman a long LONG time ago wants to have a child. In order to get her thinking towards that she'd go do a ritual and pray to a god or goddess of fertility, that way she has a positive attitude and belief that she'd have a child while going into "child making," let's call it, and with that attitude she'd be more likely to have one since she fully, or at least almost fully, believes she will have one.
