I climb the walls of my mind just like I'm climbing on a jungle gym
I am more than content with the
state of mind I am in
'cause I am crazy just like you
I am crazy just like you.

I don't think I need a rubber room,
but, that might be nice
I'm not a manic depressive paranoid or schizophrenic
so I don't need your advice.
‘Cause I am crazy just like you
I am crazy just like you.

The lights are on but nobody's home
my elevator doesn't go to the top
I'm not playing with a full deck
I've lost my marbles
The lights are on but nobody's home
my elevator doesn't go to the top
I'm not playing with a full deck
I've lost my marbles.

I'm a few bricks short of a load,
but a full load always hurt my back.
I flew over the cuckoo's nest and
I'm never ever coming back because
I am crazy just like you
I am crazy just like you.
I am crazy.

ABOUT BREUER:
Rooms--Specific qualities of this room can depend on your character's disorder, but they all follow the same basic template. See my third RPing post for that template.

Infirmary--Self explanatory, I think

Day Hall--Socializing room, contains lots of couches, chairs, and tables. Art supplies, books, and bored games are here.

Staff members--Free to be used by everyone, they're pretty much tools in this, if you wish to add a personal aide to your character, go right ahead.

Something just for fun:

Personality Disorder Test

Though I'm not sure 'fun' is exactly the proper word.

Disorder:schizoid
Personality:Ryu tends to avoid others so she can be by herself. People annoy her, but she shows no response to anything they say, unless she is aggravated. Like most schizoids, Ryu usually cannot be riled up, but unlike schizoids, she goes into a violent rage when she is. Her stares can often be mistaken for glares because of how her face is built, but usually she is very kind when approached. She is not welcoming, but she doesn't make people feel unwanted unless they refuse to leave her alone.

Looks:Black hair, yellow eyes(He uses contacts), tall, and a body like a muscleman. He obviously works out often. He has bandages and patches all over his person, but still manages to look awesome. His feet are small, so he wears shoes slightly larger than his footsize to hide it. He has a large tattoo that covers most of his back. It's the Yin-and-Yang sign with triangles and squigglies around it.
Disorder:Paranoia
Personality:Ren always has a tormented mind that there's someone around the bend, that others are plotting against him, that there are only two people on his side, and that's him and his sister. He gets twitchy when people question him, and often breaks out into an angry fit when people consistently bother him about things he doesn't want to talk about. Though this is true, he is very charismatic and handsome. No one can really tell why this is true, not even he, but he just has this sort of glow that attracts people to him like moths to a light. Including the part where they get bug-zapped by the light and fall down dead. Sort of.
Theme Song: Lacrimosa my Mozart.
Other:Ryu is his twin sister.

She usually wears a short frilly black skirt, bright colored striped tights, and a dark t-shirts with a picture of an animal along with a black zip-up hoodie.
Disorder: Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Personality: Lyra has trouble talking to people, not because she is shy, but because she doesn't trust them with what she'll tell them. When she's talking to someone she isn't always clear in what she's saying, and she's not always listening, either. At times she can be very empathetic, but at others she seems very distant and cold.
Theme Song: Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead
Other: Lyra believes that she is an alien experiment sent to Earth to do research on the human species, but something has gone wrong and now she has lost all contact with her real family.
Username: Oxymoron Synonym

;;A person who aims at nothing is sure to hit it.;;
Name: Élodie Morceaux
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Looks: Élodie is a slim, tall figure. She is 5' 9'' and weighs 106 pounds. She is naturally a brunette and her hair can be classified as wavy. Élodie's skin can be described as porcelain to fair skin and she likes to take great care of it. She has piercing blue eyes that are borderline green, they're the most unique thing about her other than her appearance itself. She is a native French citizen and her looks match. Élodie has that supermodel grace and figure that all women die for...maybe that lead to the reason for her disorder.
Disorder: Narcissistic
Personality: Élodie is a tad critical of others. She likes things to be perfect but not to the point of OCD classifications. Her looks mean everything to her and without them she wouldn't know what else to do. She has many achievements and likes to tell people about them even if they've already heard of them. Guys fawn over her and she's used to it, that's why she could really care less about them. Élodie loves it when people pay close attention to her because she is flawless in every way and she'll let you know it too.
Theme Song: Untouched by The Veronicas
Other: Élodie will most likely ignore you unless you appeal to her, if you're a cute guy.....well, she'll have her perfectly manicured claws into you in due time.
Username: Asuka_Layne

;;Isn't it pretty, Mommy Dearest?;;
Name: Lucille Alridge
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Looks: Her hair is an artificial platinum blond, perfectly straight and trailing to her mid-back. Her eyes are a pale green. Lucille stands at about 5'2 and weighs 102 lbs. Also known as a relatively unhealthy weight, though she looks far worse, and hasn't been at the asylum long enough for any real growth to happen. Her eyes are slightly sunken, and she always has bags under them, despite not having a major sleep disorder. She's got no curves and many jagged edges to her body, there are also a plethora of burn scares trailing over her fingers. She is almost like the perversion of a doll.
Disorder: Psychosis, Pyromania
Personality: Lucille is an odd case, even in the asylum. Instead of long silences, she is prone to random fits of laughter, particularly when others are having difficulties. She cannot hold a conversation very well, often getting distracted from the topic or simply staring at the person with an unnerving smile on her face. Only when the topic actually catches her interest in some way does she actually attempt to communicate as a regular human being. When she is around fire she usually 'speaks' to it, as if it were her friend, and will attempt to touch it as well. In some cases she has even lit fires, or somehow spread them to relieve whatever pent up emotions she has.
Theme Song: Disturbed - Inside the Fire
Other: Her body has a fifty/fifty chance of rejecting medication every time it is administered to her, after which she begins to have extremely vivid hallucinations and delusions involving fire. A common one is where she believes the fire wants to be set free. In any case, in no instances is she allowed to be near fire, enclosed or not, or even to matches, lighters, or anything of the sort.
Username: Blue Winged

;;Perfection is all I strive for;;
Name: Colin Dagget
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Looks: Colin has shaggy, dirty blond hair and bloodshot hazel eyes. He has heavy bags under his eyes, which he attempts to mask with thick rimmed glasses. He is tall and weighs only 90 lbs. He has absolutely no muscle and barely any fat left to cling too. His arms and legs are bony, his face the only thing remaining somewhat round. He is not progressing on weight gain very well, being at the asylum for little over 3 months and not even gaining 10 lbs. While his actual appearance is clean and spotless, what lies underneath the clothes is what would scare you.
Disorder: Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, which is coupled with anorexia nervosa, both of which cause his chronic insomnia
Personality: While Colin is not a bad person, he has no friends. That is because he is always plotting out his days, never conversing with anybody for fear of being 'late' for whatever it is he is doing. His only hobby is drawing, for he often spends hours at his desk sketching, refusing to eat or sleep. His art may be beautiful, but it is almost parasitic in it's ability to sap away at his life. In his room he has hoarded perhaps every drawing he's produced since his entrance into the asylum, not even letting others touch it, for fear that they would ruin the piece. He is also hopelessly devoted in his Catholic beliefs, believing that God gave him an amazing gift.
Theme Song: Avenged Sevenfold - Turn the Other Way
Other: To make sure he does not starve, every day Colin is escorted to the lunch room and made to eat, sometimes by force if he cannot be torn away from his desk.
Username: Blue Winged

"I don't understand why you're doing this to me, mom." Douglas growled as he pulled his knees up to lean on the dashboard and slide lower in the passenger seat so that he could barely see the green countryside flying by. "I am not crazy."

"I know you're not, dear." Andrea Keith murmured, tapping her son's knee in an attempt to get him to sit correctly, she quickly gave up, "I just think this will be good for you."

"But I'm-" Douglas started to snarl.

"I know you aren't crazy." His mother soothed him, knitting her brow as she stared at the large white building that had begun to loom on the horizon. It was surrounded by a high fence. "But you could use some help."

The two didn't say anything else for a while. Andrea shifted her gaze from the road to her son and back several times. "I wish you would have worn something more appropriate." She muttered.

Douglas looked down at himself, "What's wrong with it?" He asked.

"Well, the jeans-" Andrea tried to start, but her son cut her off.

"Of God's sake, Andrea, I've got the shirt and the suit jacket. Who the hell cares if I wear jeans? I'm going to a freaking mental hospital, mother, it doesn't matter." Douglas had had a good relationship with his mother until she'd admitted him to Breuer 'for his own good.' He hadn't hurt anyone and he didn't hurt himself, so Douglas couldn't see the point in spending any time in an asylum.

The little gray car slowed as it approached the gate to the hospital. "Keith." Andrea choked to the guard who nodded and opened the gate. She pulled up the circular drive and stopped at the steps. "Do you want me to come inside with you, Doug?" Andrea asked, but Douglas was already out of the car, up the steps, and out of her life. Andrea stared at the glass entrance door as it closed, then leaned on the steering wheel and cried.

Douglas sat on one of the pleather couches in the forum waiting for someone to come show him around. Then a door opened and a man in his early fifties stepped out to greet him. He has salt and pepper hair and wore thick rimmed glasses and a white coat, an unconvincing attempt to convince Douglas that he was a doctor.

"I'm Doctor Flannery," He said in a deep voice, "Please follow me, I'll show you around." Douglas rose and the couch squeaked behind him.

Raleigh lounged back on the couch in the day hall over looking the hospital grounds, where the claustrophobic cases spent most of their time. There was a basket ball court and soccer goals set up on two sides of the lawn, a swing set for the several patients who were convinced that they were five years old. Farther away was a small lake, which the hydrophobics were kept away from.

He sat with his legs open showing his green boxers through a rip in the crotch of his flannel pants. A graphic novel rested on his chest and Raleigh's eyes scanned the pictures and text with little interest. He'd been in Breuer for nearly ten months and had read every book with reading in the hospital.

A young man in his mid twenties wearing a white coat and an ID tag that gave him the name of Daniel Franklin approached Raleigh. "We've got a new arrival," He said with a smile, standing over the couch, "Would you like to go meet him?"

"Why the hell would I do that?" Raleigh asked in his deep voice without looking up.

"It's part of a process to get you back as a functioning member of society." Daniel replied, trying to get the boy to show some hint of emotion. Raleigh didn't look up or respond in any way. Daniel was a bit of a defeatist and gave up quickly, "Okay," He said quietly, "Some other time then." The young doctor turned and walked down the hallway that began at one end of the lounge.

In the infirmary;

Colin stood upon the scale in only his bleached-white t-shirt and boxers. His weekly weigh in. He didn't really understand why they were insistent on doing this to him. He was perfectly fine, just a bit on the skinny side, as God intended him to be. As the nurses began to take his measurements his eyes dully scanned the room. They had taken off his glasses and left them unfolded on a counter-top. It wasn't as if he needed those things, he just thought they made him look less ugly. Shifting his eyes again, he saw a clock that wasn't quite straight, and a leather examination table with various cuts and holes in it. He didn't understand why they didn't just replace it. The jagged edges ripping through the material just... bothered him. "Can you hurry? I need to finish my drawing by-" The nurse cut him off.

"No Colin, the drawing will still be there when you leave this room." At that, an irritated sigh came from his throat, but if he didn't finish that piece now his entire week's schedule would be thrown out the window. There were very precise requirements, why couldn't people understand that? As the nurse wound the measuring tape around his waist, he squirmed slightly, he didn't like it when people touched him there. The rest of the exam seemed to fly by, and when he left the room dressed in an impeccable white button-up and slacks, the nurses were looking very troubled. He hadn't gained a pound.

While he walked down the sterile-looking white corridors he passed one of the older doctors, guiding a boy he hadn't seen before along. A new arrival. A new arrival wearing the same shirt he was. Immediately he felt a little disappointed in himself. He should have chosen something different. Wearing the same thing as somebody else was so tacky. A frown crossed his face as the two neared. "Damn." He muttered, it really was the same.

=-=

Her room;

Lucille was still dressed in her dark red night gown when she awoke to sunlight in her face. She called for one of the nurses just as she did every morning (or afternoon) that she woke up. The blond had learned the names of all the people on shift during the times she did wake up in her past month. Today's was Anna. As the poised, younger woman walked in she knew immediately what Lucille wanted. A brush lay expectantly in the 15 year-old's hands.

During the daily ritual the two said nothing to each other, Lucille simply sat there, her face formed back into the blank smile she always wore. Anna knew it well, and had grown used to the child in her time here. Always she would brush the hair exactly 50 times, then leave the room. After the nurse left, Lucille would do something in her room before stepping out in one of her various night gowns. As predictable as she seemed, the girl was half-crazed inside. She had one of the worst cases of psychosis and pyromania the woman had seen. The reason Lucille was sent here is because her mother caught her sitting outside holding a lighter beneath her hand and speaking in almost unintelligible English. The few times she was around fire she did the same thing, press her hand as close to the flame as possible and laugh deliriously.

Poor thing, her mother must be so worried, Anna thought as she left the room. True to her pattern Lucille stepped out about half an hour later, still in her knee-length silk gown. She was also barefoot, her feet making small plodding noises as she walked towards the the Day Hall.

Day Hall;

Upon her arrival she spotted Raleigh. She'd seen him before, known his name. Her pale green eyes blinked curiously, he didn't look as if he was doing anything. Somehow, the words sounded hilarious in her mind, and she began to giggle softly behind him, but soon that giggle erupted into a full roar of laughter. Every time she laughed her voice his the same note, over and over again. Some people found this laugh irritating, especially if she started laughing when somebody else had a panic attack.

((Take a look up in the rules, I've explained more about rooms and the building's features, which I probably should have done before.))

"So here's your room." Doctor Flannery instructed, opening a thick door to show an eight foot by ten white room with a small steel framed bed tucked in one corner; it seemed to be bolted to the floor. Across from it under a barred window was a small table and a bureau, both also bolted.

"Are all the rooms like this, or do you just thing I'm dangerous?" Douglas asked in a bored voice, idly kicking a table leg to ensure its attachment. He threw his bag on to the bed and stared out at the hills through the bars.

"No," Flannery responded, "This is a standard room. Some rooms are altered for the needs of particular patients."

"Such as?" Douglas asked, sitting on his table, for some reason he hadn't been given a chair.

"The patients suffering from agoraphobia reside in rooms a bit more homely," Flannery explained, pushing his glasses up on his nose, "Because they generally do no leave, whereas you wouldn't want to stay in here all day."

"Doesn't sound like they're suffering if they get suites in this place." Douglas mumbled, heaving himself off the table and stalking past the doctor back into the hall. "What else is there?" He asked, looking around.

"Down at the end of that hall is the boys' bathroom," Flannery pointed to the left, "The girls' is at the other end." Douglas looked down the white hallway at the several doorways that looked just like his own.

"Communal," He snarled, "Lovely." Douglas sighed, "So I assume that the hall isn't the social hot spot." He was of course referencing the complete lack of humans in the hall other than the doctor and himself. "Do we have one of those here?"

"Yes, that would be the day hall." Flannery gestured down the right side of the hall, "This way."

_-_-_

Raleigh peered over his book at the source of the laughter. Lucille. He turned the page and stopped looking at her. She was an alright girl; the laughing could push it some times, but other than that Raleigh had nothing against her. She didn't actually do much talking which was nice.

"If you're laughing at my pants," He remarked from between his covers, "Feel free to grow up." Raleigh said the same thing to every staff member who tried to get him to wear other pants, or at least fix his present ones. He liked the pants; they were comfortable. He didn't wear them just to piss everyone off, but he wasn't leaping to please them by not wearing them.

Today was a good day. Lyra skipped towards the Day Hall, wondering what interesting homo sapiens specimen she would find there. This place was filled with humans to study, each with their own unique traits and odd quirks. She arrived just in time to hear the female called Lucille laugh and the male Raleigh reply to her outburst of laughter. Lyra rushed to the opposite side of the room to lie down on her stomach, propping her head up on her hands. She listened wide-eyed, wondering what the humans would say next, and hoped her appearance hadn't disrupted them.

[[Alright, barred windows, I'll remember that one]]

Lucille had been laughing hysterically, but abruptly stopped when he started to speak. Even though she knew that he could not see her, she gave him a blank smile.

"I'm laughing because you're not doing anything." She giggled a little bit more at that, she was funny, so very funny. Raleigh never laughed with her, but then again, most didn't. Raleigh never laughed with anybody though, not even a smile. She couldn't imagine living without laughter. It made every sterile white hallway seem a little brighter. But fire would make it beautiful. Lucille hadn't seen her lovely fire in so long, they wouldn't let her anywhere near it. She didn't understand why. The fire wouldn't hurt her, it was her friend. Her best and dearest in the whole wide world. Even better then Riley. The fire never left her after all, but Riley did. Stupid Riley. Pretty fire. She'd rather have the latter. "The fire grows for me anyway." She said, absent-minded. The platinum blond skipped full circle around the couch, giggling like a 5 year-old, stopping to look out the window.

What a disappointment, no fire anywhere.

=-=

Colin decided to return to his room, if he hurried he would still make it in time to finish his piece, right before dinner, then after dinner he would stare out of the day hall window for exactly 3 minutes before returning to his room and starting work on a portrait. After all that, he would go to sleep at exactly 12 am on the dot. What puzzled him most is that he didn't find a subject for his portrait. He couldn't use himself, that would be committing the sin of pride. God wouldn't like him to do that. The trip back to his room would be exactly 5 minutes if he cut through the day room, and turn two rights a left and through his door. It was so perfect. Then he would set his alarm for 8 in the morning to go talk to his therapist for one hour and thirty minutes.

He patted himself on the back for thinking up such a brilliant plan. The only thing he needed to worry about was not being able to go to sleep. He believed that maybe God wanted him to work instead of sleep, but if he didn't sleep, then he wouldn't be able to work and his daily arrangement would be messed up again. God wouldn't want that.

Day Hall;

Upon his arrival to the day hall he was surprised to find people there. It wasn't often that his fellow mates hung around here, then again, he rarely went through here himself. Still, things had to go according to schedule, so he walked quickly past the others, but was too busy watching them and inspecting their flaws that he didn't notice the black-haired girl lying on the floor. He tripped over her and started to fall.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 23, 2009 4:25 pm

Lyra was so busy watching the two humans interact that she failed to notice the one called Colin walking straight towards her until she felt him trip over her. She immediately rolled towards the way he came, the direction opposite of where he was falling, so that he wouldn't fall on top of her, and moved up into an alerted crouch. If she had been in a worse mood, Lyra might have attacked Colin for tripping over her, but as it was she just crouched in her spot and continued to watch.

Colin hit the ground hard. What the hell had he tripped over anyway? Ugh, at this point he didn't care. He sat up and rubbed his knees, which had hit the floor the hardest. Great, now he was injured and late. He heard movement sound behind and snapped his head around. As his eyes came into focus he saw a black-haired girl crouching on a couch. That must be who he tripped over. No matter, quickly pulling up his pant leg he inspected the wound. Bloody. Had he really fallen that hard? It seemed so. What horrible luck. He pursed his lips, irritated. Now he would have to take time to fix himself up. Rolling the pant leg back down, he stood, looked at the girl, and spoke to her. "You shouldn't lie down on the floor like that." In the back of his mind, he wondered if he'd hurt her, but he doubted it. He started back through the room and to the infirmary to pick up band-aids.
