This place was so different from the world she use to know inside her fruit. Everything was so big, and wide, and very, very cold. The ground also had a strange white powder that was soft to the touch and sunk against the pressure of her hooves; it too was cold. The golden filly had stopped for a full minute to inspect the stuff as soon as she and her Riruy had left the cover of the trees in Shrilal, and had only pressed forward with a nudge from the tall Jala. She had discovered though, as they got further out into the open and could see the sky well enough, that small, nearly invisable flurries floated down from the sky and collected on the ground. Did that mean the cold white stuff by her hooves came from the sky?

Once more the filly raised her head up to stare at the clouds above her head and blinked strangely at them. This place was very odd, but fascinating. Wiggling her little tail out behind her, Tehya happened to glance at the large brown figure that was her Riruy crane his neck around and look at her. She looked down somewhat sheepishly and quickly picked her hooves up to trot up to and keep pace with him. He wasn't going very fast, but she had been walking so very slowly.

As they neared the place he had called Ryuten, she could see even stranger figures walking on two legs and upright not too far away. Alarmed the filly balked and pinned her ears to the side of her skull. She didn't like this. She didn't like new things like this. "Riruy..." she hesitated to say further, finding the right things to say was difficult. Especially when it was difficult to grasp the language. "I don't want to go closer." She wasn't particularly scared of the things, but she'd much rather not have to deal with anything more she could deem new. Hopefully he'd understand...

It was about time he returned the basket to the humans, for he wasn't going to have use of it back at the beach in Quirne. Not unless he wanted to travel for days trying to get to Ryuten, and that was fairly unlikely unless he needed something other than food. And even then it would be easier just to get a new basket instead of hauling this one around all the time. He would have ran there and back without much of a problem to get to Cress and the tree sooner again, but to his surprise Tehya had wanted to go with him. Well that was no problem to the blood bay, he was glad for his daughter's company on the trip. Albeit it would take longer, but he didn't think there'd be a big hurry to get back this time. Hopefully Cress would be alright with the other four foals. Perhaps Rhea or Tucker had shown up in his absence to help out?

The Jala craned his head around to watch the strange little creature get absorbed in the snow again. He had discovered she wasn't much of a talker, but that was fine. She probably got that from him. Smiling gently when she came trotting back up to him Aitumn continued on their way to the human's dwelling. He had already devised the neccisary movements and actions to indicate he no longer wanted the basket, so that wasn't going to be a problem.

A small voice drew his attention and he stopped in stride to crane his neck back around again. It was funny really, how Tehya was so much different from Tucker when he was foal. It was hard to believe they had the same parents. "That's okay. If you'd like to stay right here I'll be a moment." He had no intention on taking more than a dozen steps away from her, after what had gone one with the Zaknafein affair, so he'd beckon the humans to come to him. This was done fairly easily, he had discovered.

Pawing at the ground in front of him and arching his neck, Aitumn nickered between his teeth, raising his lips to allow the sound to travel past the handle of the basket. They should notice that.

Phew. That was close. Studying them from affair was completely different from meeting them up close, and though Tehya was interested in them she didn't feel the need to let them get too close. She watched silently as her father stepped away from her and did some strange things which pricked her ears. What was he doing? To be truthful he looked almost scary, but that's just because he was so much bigger than she was. That, and she hadn't quite discovered her own horn yet, but with it she'd probably be much more at ease.

She was surprised to see humans rushing up to greet him, though why hadn't he just called over to them? "Riruy?" How was she going to word this next question? Her head tilted slightly as she watched the exchange between him and the humans, and for a moment she was transfixed in watching them. They had strange hooves that had five different digits, and they could curl over things like the basket her father had been carrying in his mouth. This was all very strange, but Tehya was interested in learning more. You could never learn too much. Carefully the filly took some cautious steps towards her father, still pinning her ears against her skull to tell them she didn't want to get near them. If they understand that sort of thing. Maybe they didn't speak nequus?

Indeed the humans came as he had expected them too, apparently they were rather easy to train. Strange as it sounded, that what it seemed like to Aitumn. Its not like a rit or carris would come running up as soon as he made a specticle of himself, at least not one he didn't know well enough. Humans on the other hand ran up no matter the nequus; so far as he had seen anyway. Despite his forward attention being on the approaching humans, he kept an ear turned back toward his daughter to hear anything that went on behind him. Surely he shouldn't have to worry about open threats, but if he had learned anything from the past seasons its that drek went flying when you least expected it. So best to be prepared. Aitumn's firm, fit muscles tightened at the thought, his neck arching and flexing. The muscles visable underneath his skin grew taunt and hard; he was prepared if the worst was to come.

At the very least Aitumn was a stallion of action, never mind bravery, he had very little of that, but reckless endangerment surely made up for the lack there of. If all else failed, throw himself into the situation without a second thought to the consequences. That was his way of life, and thus far it had proven to get him out of tough situations fairly well.

The small voice from behind him sounded again, and after dropping the basket at the feet of the humans he turned away from them and walked back toward Tehya. His ears pricked forward to give her his full attention as he lowered his muzzle to nudge at her shoulder affectionately. "We can head back now, I'm sure they're missing us back at the tree." He was okay interacting with the humans, but he was a bit wary about keeping Tehya here for much longer. For all he knew humans might react differently to foals, and he'd rather avoid a confrontation with them.

Those strange two legged creatures were staring at her, but riruy was already walking back this way so Tehya wasn't too worried about it. At the very least he'd protect her, she had no doubt about that. Not because Aitumn had once told her about Zaknafein, but because he was her riruy, he wouldn't let anything happen to her.

Still, when Aitumn walked back up to her and said they could leave the filly pricked her ears in alarm. She wasn't done watching the strange creatures yet! Perplexed at this, the filly returned her gaze back to the retreating humans, watching as one carried the empty basked against its hip and the others walked off in other directions. They were so strange. What were they going to do with the basket anyway? And how did they understand what her father wanted without talking to him. Finally the filly came up with an ideal plan to allow her to answer these questions, and to stay put for a little while longer while she watched them.

"Why didn't they speak to you?" Nothing wrong about being blunt with her, she was curious and he'd always answered her questions before. He'd even told them stories before. Ooh, she wanted to hear a story! The little filly's tail wiggled out behind her in antcipation of his answer.

Aitumn paused for a moment, and slowly allowed a raised hoof to lower back down to the frozen ground. It was true he disliked the winter season, but he had been distracted by the activities of his little family thus far, and hardly had time to stand still. Now though he was begining to feel the bite of the chilly weather, and shuffled his feathered wings against his back and sides. It surprised him nearly everytime when his daughter spoke up about some obscur question he hadn't expected her to catch onto. At least not too quickly. It was quickly dawning on him that Tehya was a rather curious individual who liked to learn. At least he wasn't short of stories to tell her in place of actual answers, for though Aitumn was a fairly learned individual, he didn't have all the answers. Or at least, not the actual answers. He believed what he believed, and sometimes those were just theories. Until she was older and able to figure it out herself, stories would suffice.

The blood bay stallion lowered his muzzle once more to nudge at her, snorting slightly in amusement. It was good he had found such an interested audiance, he didn't exactly get to tell Tucker many stories when he was younger. At least not all the time. "Would you like to hear why? Its a fairly long story, and only one of the legends of many that explain this difference in languages." He didn't think it'd be too long before they could head back to the tree, so it seemed like a good place to tell a story about the humans.

Did she! Long stories were the best, and she had already picked up on a few key words her sire through into explanations like this. Legends tended to be something he made up, at least she thought so anyway, considering he used the plural which meant there was more than one. There couldn't be more than one answer to a question like that, could there? The concept was a bit difficult for the filly to grasp, but she was fairly certain this would be entertaining and that if she asked the same question again at some other point in her life he might tell her a different story; a different legend.

"Yes riruy", she grinned, wiggling her little stub of a tail and shifting her wings like she had seen him doing not long before. The cold didn't really bother her, and though she could feel its bite and chill, she was much more focused on the tall stallion who was about to tell her a story. That's just the way Tehya was. When she was interested in something she could very well tune other things out, although that had gotten her into trouble every once in awhile. There was little consequence in doing so at the moment though, as she eagerly awaited for Aitumn to start his story. What would it be about? How did it happen? Why couldn't the humans talk Nequus?

The blood bay smiled down to his little filly of a daughter, he had hardly believed her coloring when she had awoken. It seemed most of their children had taken after Cressida's side of the family, and the chestnut coated boy, well, he could only guess that had come from him somewhere. It was interesting to think about. Tehya however seemed to have most of his coloring. Bay markings, brown eyes, and the same feathered wings of all her siblings. With a bob of his head Aitumn settled into his story telling mode.

"Long ago, before humans interacted with any other creatures, nequus roamed the lands of Urin, although mostly restricted to the temperate regions of D'ob where it was warm all year round. There were very few herds in the begining, where most nequus prefered to live on their own, and most happened to be of the bae breed. They're butterfly wings were considered beautiful, and they were prized to any individual who had them. Amongst the many numbers of bae were quite a few less of aeri and jala, and even fewer of the mysterious reya and ichsa breeds that prefered to stay on the outskirts of most large groups and kept to themselves more so than others.

It was on a day such as this that a lovely bae mare happened to discover quite an odd pair of footprints near her favorite drinking hole, and after some looking around found more leading away from the watering hole in a different direction from where she came. The footprints weren't hooves like a nequus's, nor were they paws like a rit's or caris's. They were longer and much flatter looking.

This bae was a very curious sort, and had never once feared anything in her life other than leaving the valley. But then most nequus back then were afraid to leave their home and explore the lands beyond D'ob. With a snort of determination she set off in search for the owner of these strange footprints, and after some long moments of going off in this other direction, she stumbled upon a very strange sight; a colony of two legged creatures that only had hair upon their heads. Startled and surprised out of her wits the mare went racing back to her valley home, shouting about monsters and fiends that stood upon two legs.

Most everyone laughed at her. The bae thought she was simply playing a trick on them and merely chuckled and played along, nipping at her playfully while others pretended to be monsters and chase off their friends. The Jala thought she was was trying to play a mean trick on them and sneered at her for thinking they were stupid enough to fall for that trick. And the aeri thought she was crazy, and chose to simply ignore her. She was very heartbroken over this, as she was senstive creature, and turned away from her kin in despair. She had tried to warn them of the strange animals, but they hadn't listened.

As she traveled further away from the main group of nequus, she noticed that a few of the outskirters had gathered together and were traveling toward her. This had never happened before, and she was very taken aback by this strange behavior. After all, in those times ichsa and reya were mysterious and sometimes feared for never interacting with the other breeds.

They stopped short of a comfortable distance and one ichsa stallion approached, although hesitatnly. "Have you seen the two-leggers as well?" he asked, somewhat suspiciously. The bae mare was so astounded that they too had seen the creatures, she jumped and bucked excitedly. "Yes! Yes I have seen the monsters, but the others won't believe me..." she gasped then fell silent, remembering the hulmilation she had suffered.

The ichsa nodded and merely stayed calm, throwing a scornful glance in the direction of the main members of bae, jala, and aeri. "We've seen them, and we've also tried talking to them. It seems like they're friendly enough, but their speach is not something we can understand..." he seemed to get a confused look on his face before shaking his head. "My friend believes it is because we have developed seperately, and have not had contact with each other until recently. She believes that is reason enough for us not to share the same language," he explained.

The bae nodded her head, eager to hear his explanation. Well it was good to know they were friendly, but she was somewhat sad that they couldn't speak with each other. "I'm sorry to hear that, though I suppose I shouldn't have called them monsthers. They might have believed me-" she was cut off by a fiery 'humph' from the ichsa stallion.

"Don't concern yourself with that, some people just don't understand what they haven't seen for themselves. I do hope you'll visit us at times, miss, you seem sensible enough." The ichsa then bowed his head and returned to his group, which soon dispersed into individuals after a breif chat. The bae mare was left to wonder at these strange new creatures, and wondered if at some point they'd ever be able to understand each other."
Aitumn finished the story with a glance in the direction of the human's encampment. It really was a curious question this one, if they'd ever be able to speak the same language.

Not only did she get to listen to one of her sire's stories, but she got her chance to study the humans off in the distance. They were so strange, and very different. She didn't think she wanted to meet any of them any time soon, but perhaps if she introduced herself slowly she could get to know them. Maybe. She didn't much like change, and meeting a totally new species seemed like a big change to her.

However her ears were pricked to listen to the words of the story, her mind easily following the different points in the plot Aitumn had come up with. She loved listening to his stories, they were very interesting and they allowed her to think about the situations as if she were a part of it. She hadn't been to D'ob yet, but her father had talked about it and many other places in his stories, so her curiousity was peaked when it came to the regions of Urin, their home. When he was finished her grin broadened and the filly reached up to n** and tug at his lengthy midnight mane. "That was awesome! Can you tell me another one? Please?" It was a stretch, but if she were able to prolong her stay here and watch the humans more, than she'd love to hear another story about them.

The sleek jala snorted in amusement and shook his head, at least she had enjoyed it, though he was begining to think the cold season was unbearable now that he had stopped moving around. "Naw, we gotta get back soon, we left your mom in charge of your siblings and the tree." Not that he didn't have faith in Cressida taking care of things, he just imagined it'd be an easier job with the both of them to keep an eye on the foals. Geez. Five! The number was still very astounding the wanderer turned family stallion. Never once in his life had he ever imagined have so many children at one time. And when you counted Tucker, there was a total of six. Although it was lucky the boy was grown now, Tucker himself had been very lively as a colt, Aitumn recalled with a smirk.

Flicking his long tail out behind him the stallion nudged at his daughter's shoulder once more before stepping off into the direction of Shrilal. "Maybe if you're lucky I'll tell ya a story on the way back", he chuckled, flicking in an ear in her direction as she hesitated before following him. Indeed he probably could, but for now he'd like to get moving and out of the darned winter weather.
