With the proposed projects out there of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Battle Angel Alita as well as Dragon Ball Z. Not to mention past projects of Aeon Flux and Speed Racer. Do you believe that anime/manga is the next bastion of material for Hollywood?
We can all agree that there are already heavy influences in modern cinema that is based directly in classic anime, from directors such as Tarantino and the Wachowski Brothers (who openly claim to be influenced by the medium), to more subtle action directing and camera angles that are used.
I'm sort of mixed on this. While I know that this will bring more people into the fold of discovering otaku. I feel as if it is under a false pretense... sort of like all those people that "love" Spiderman but have never picked up a comic book in their life.
Not to mention what I think Hollywood will do to these movies in and of themselves. As you all pretty much know, by the mainstream anime is still considered to be "kids cartoons". I'd hate to see a cerebral story like Ghost in the Shell turned into something like G.I. Joe.. now with Kung Fu grip.
Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
