A certain small Koi-Hyte peered up through the ceiling of water that was the boundary of his temporary world, watching with a mild expression as the bubble he had blown drifted slowly towards the surface, ripples blooming at the point of impact. It wasn't that this fishie -- newly christened Kaede, courtesy of a few certain staff members -- was bored, per se. It was difficult to be bored when you have so much to think about, being only recently released from a tube. So much to see, so much to do, so much to learn. However, Kaede was a fish. Or rather, he was physically a fish. Mentally, he had the intelligence of a small child. So while this child was curious, he was in fact a fish at this time, and therefore, was in a predicament.
It can be said that, as a fish, there is not much that you can do to entertain yourself. Swimming is always an option, as is breaching from time to time to peer out into the water-less environment, but for the most part, things are relatively simple. Perhaps in a pond he would have had more to entertain him -- a few rocks to inspect, a little foliage to hide in, and perhaps even a turtle or two to keep him company -- but for the most part, it is the same.
Glancing at the surface a few moments longer, Kaede gave a few quick flicks of his tail, lifting his head above the water and peering around curiously, silvery blue eyes taking in the site of the Main Hyte Activity Area. Most of the time it was teeming with life -- someone was almost always around, playing a game or taking a walk. On this evening, however, the activity area was quite still. Whether it was because it was time for most hytes to head home or perhaps they were all off at dinner, he didn't know, but for once he was alone. The koi lowered his head again, swimming back to the center of the pool.
Not that Kaede had really ever been alone in his few days of biological existence. His birth, as well as the birth of his batchmates, had certainly not gone unnoticed within the Hytech community. He had already met a fair number of the Hytes who typically resided within the walls of the "pet-shop", Hytes of every shape and size and temperament. It was not something the koi had minded -- quite the opposite, in fact. He had enjoyed meeting them, watching them, picking up little hints to their personalities. Their warm welcomes had made him feel just that -- very welcome.
Now, however, for the first time in his few days of life, there was no one around. So, contented, if not a little bored, the fishie half-lay on the bottom of the blow-up pool Ms. Belle had so kindly provided for him, watching the bubbles float by.

The Lyte called Mono Tonakai was, at the moment, curious. She had been left at HyTech, with only the vaguest of instructions, something like "I'll pick you up later, have fun and no blackmailing." Of course, she didn't see anyone, and had a feeling her mother had conspired against her.
Then she saw it. A small wading pool with a fish poking its' head out. Mono instantly knew it was one of the new Hytes, Kaede-although she'd never met the fishy, she'd heard about him. "Hi there," she whispered to the fish, sitting down besides the wading pool. "You're Kaede, right? My name's Mono."
She didn't care if she was there for hours. That's okay. She could wait. After all, she'd just met a Hyte! How often did that happen to her?

A rather small hyte hurried into the activity area, her arms full of bags. This hyte was Femi, the meerkat, and in the bags was things she had picked up at a pet store, stuff for Kaede. Sweet as sugar, she had felt bad that the fish hyte was confined to the pool when all the others in his batch could move around freely. So she spent a lot of her time kneeling next to the pool, talking to him and feeding him bit of lettuce. He seemed to enjoy it... But what did he do when she wasn't there? The question had bugged her for days before she finally decided to ask her caretaker for some money to allow her to buy some things for the small fish.
Scurrying over to where Kaede's pool was, Femi knelt beside the pool, setting the bags down beside her. "Look, Kaede!" she said cheerily. "I picked up some things for you--Oh! I'm sorry, I didn't see you there!" Femi blinked at the... Lyte, right? That's what Kaitaia had told her the little creatures (even though they weren't really /that/ little compared to her...) were called. She gave the Lyte a smile.

A small voice roused the koi from whatever thoughts he had been thinking (most likely about bubbles), his eyes flickering in curiosity at the form just outside his pool. It was very small, smaller than a Hyte, anyway, and yet it had many of the same characteristics. Kaede blinked. What was it?
Swimming to the side of the pool, the fish peered up through the water at the Lyte curiously, noting it was, indeed, quite a bit smaller than the average Hyte. Mono, she said her name was. He blew a bubble in response.
The sound of bags rustling alerted Kaede that someone else had entered the Activity area, and was delighted to find Femi approaching the pool. His protector for the past several days from two different feline-hytes, she was as sweet as she was adorable. The koi had quite taken to her in the last few days, her kindness nearly melting his little fishie heart. At her words he felt a pang of guilt -- she had done so much for him already, and now she was buying him things? He must do something for her, when he got older, and was not so confined to the water.
Swimming up to the side of the pool by the Meerkat-girl, Kaede gave the water a little flick of his tail in greeting, swimming in a tight circle beside her.

It had been a few days since the new batch of Hytes had arrived and while she had tried to meet all of them, only the Japanese cat and fish had alluded her. While she hadn't seen the "neko" as she had learned it was called, the fish called Kaede was nearby and she was finally able to hopefully meet the new Hyte in person.
Walking up to the pool, she sat next to it and peered in with a cautious look. "Well, hello there! I'm Xin Yue and you must be Kaede. It's a pleasure to meet you!" The rat-woman watched the water's edge with a bit of eagerness as she peered into the pool.

Mono smiled at the little Koi. He really was a nice creature. Contrasting with her hyperness, she really liked the little thing. Deciding that they'd be friends when he could talk, the Lyte felt good. Another friend!
Then she looked up, and noticed that two adult female Hytes were next to the pool. Shying away, she stuttered "H-hi, I'm M-Mono, very n-nice to meet y-you," in a small voice. After all, they were actually one of a kind, not like Mono. She couldn't compare!
Looking closer, a flash of insight sparked. It was Xin Yue and Femi! She returned the smile to Femi, and suddenly didn't feel so scared. After all, they'd most likely be her friends, right? Hopefully?

"Well, I'm Femi," she said to the Hyte, holding out her hand to shake the smaller female's. "Its a pleasure to meet you!" She gave her a warm smile before turning back to Kaede, and to her happy surprise, Xin Yue!
"Oh! Xin! Hi!" Her smile widened. "Isn't Kaede lovely?" Femi was quite fond of the fish, it was clear. She began to dig through the bags at her side, pulling things out. There were a few plants, real of course, a few very lovely rocks, a machine to stir the water about and make a cute little waterfall, and even a few smaller fish to keep the koi company when no one was around. She had a few toys he could move about with his nose or fins as well. Delicately she set everything in the pool, very particular about where each thing went.
When she finished, she sat back with a bright smile. "There! Oh! And I have some special fishy treats too!"

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mono." Xin Yue replied lightly, as the poor Lyte seemed a bit skittish. She waved in a friendly fashion and turned to greet Femi as well. "Hello dear Femi! Are you helping Kaede get some new accessories for his pool?"
The Valentine's Rat watched the pool water curiously, as to get a glimpse of the new Hyte in his surroundings. She had met almost all of the new Hytes (except for the new "cat" Hyte) and was excited to see what this new Hyte might be like.

The koi almost seemed sheepish as Femi produced the items from her bag, watching as she placed them in his new habitat. What lovely gifts! He felt a strange mixture of pleasure and guilt -- she should not have worried about him, he was quite happy just to be around them all. Swimming over to some of the newly-placed vegetation, Kaede observed it with a sense of curiosity, swimming through it a few times before returning to the meerkat and swimming a tight circle in front of her in an attempt to voice his sincere thanks.
Kaede watched curiously as a new set of pretty pink eyes peered into the pool, strands of beautiful pink and white striped hair falling a bit towards the water. He gave a slow blink at the new Hyte, quite intrigued, and very pleased to meet someone new. He could just start to make out her beautiful kimono through the small ripples spreading over the top of the water. She was beautiful, to be sure, and he approached slowly, almost shyly -- it was very humbling, being in the presence of such beautiful women.

Femi's smile widened as it seemed that Keade liked the things she had brought. "You're welcome!" she chirped as she pulled out the special fish treats, shaking a few into the pool. "I wanted you to have some friends and toys for when you're here by yourself."
Turning to Xin, she nodded, still smiling wide. "Mhm! He can't leave the pool like the other Hytes, so I wanted to make it nice for him." Her cheeks warmed a little as she looked back down at the pool.

"Well, he is very darling indeed! I'm sure he'll be a lady-killer when he gets older...or is he even starting now? You're blushing there, Femi." Xin teased playfully, as she hoped her dear friend would see.
The Hyte gently wiped off her hands and placed a hand into the pool to spread out a few pebbles she had brought with her. "I heard that fishbowls use these sort of pebbles a lot, at least Rose had a tonof them when she tended the shop before Ruthie." The pebbles were all sort of different colors and seemed to sparkle in the reflected light as she poured some down carefully.
