Art is all about putting your perceptions into a physical form, yes?
So what happens when your powers of perception are slowly degenerating? When the chemicals in your brain are starting to alter, surge, recede? When you start to lose touch with reality...start to lose your mind?
There are a ton of intriguing [and somewhat disturbing] paintings that such suffering artists have created. Works from two are linked below.

Louis Wain's crazy cat pictures:

Psychology, A Journey
This series of paintings by Louis Wain reflects a troubled personality. Wain was a British illustrator who became schizophrenic in middle age. As Wain’s psychosis progressed, his cat paintings became highly abstract and fragmented. In many ways, Wain’s paintings resemble the perceptual changes caused by psychedelic drugs such as mescaline and LSD. Recent research suggests that psychosis may, in fact, be the result of mind-altering changes in brain chemistry.

Andy Wilf's disturbing self-portraits:

Opinions, impressions?
Know any similar crazy art/artists?

I love those cats, but they are scary. XD And the self-portraits are flippin' terrifying. D: I could see them cackling evilly.

Crazy the way chemicals can change so much of our perceptions.

I seriously wonder what kinds of things he was imagining on a daily basis. Oo Can you imagine trying to go to sleep with those kind of images flooding your brain?

I also saw this video in class where they made some virtual reality system that simulated what scizophrenics see. It was really disturbing. Like, they'd be fine and well and one day hear a voice suddenly say "Why don't you just kill yourself, you're useless." but it's like, outside their head. Like someone they couldn't see was standing there threatening them. And they showed in the v.r.s. some guy trying to talk to you, but you'd be distracted by all these extra voices and rats running across and distorted shadows. Really disturbing. They asked an actual recovered schizophrenia patient if it was legit and he said it was exactly like in real life.

Here's a few minutes of the video I saw. The guy who the first guys asks if the virtual reality thing's legit had weak schizophrenia he managed to toss off with some therapy.

Sorry Tribble, I attempted to embed, but not only am I clueless, forums seems to not take CSS coding or something. It just posted the code the first time 'round.

I find it interesting how the cat art looks...well...less and less like cats in each box, the first 2.

No comment on the self prtrait.

Dam drugs.
