EQ Peyote

Peyote led the way out of Llune's cave, where the motley crew had sheltered during the storm. As she walked, Creek's arm draped around her wait, the sun villager leaded her head against his chest while that odd little word danced through her mind.

"This is... odd," she said finally, after a good distance between them and cave. "I don't know you and yet... I can't help but feel... like we've always been like this."

Creek enjoyed having Pey lean on him, it somehow felt right. He was somewhat confused. When he had seen two tribemates Recognize, they had not taken the time to talk. Of course, both had a lover beyond Recognition. He wasn't sure why he felt the need to make sure she was okay with this. But he had to agree, this felt perfect to him, natural, as if it had ben writen in the stars and he had been seperated from his tribe for this. at least, in part for this. He was sure there was more to it. He nodded his head as she spoke, "Me too".

The reply, however simple and short, brought a smile to her lips. She broke contact briefly, to peer up to his face. There was an inhale, a moment it seemed she might say something, and then a slight confusion and she returns her head to his chest and walks a few more steps.

"Will you want to become lifemates from this, after... you know," she waved her hand, as if the motion would conjure up the words for her. Her tone is clear: this was not the original question she was going to ask.

Creek wasn't sure what to say. He honestly had not been expecting that nore ven thinking about it. He stopped for a second, frozen mid step before staightening himself out. "I..." he was speechless, which was slightly uncommon for him. Sure, he didn't speak alot, but that wasn't because he couldn't think of something to say. he just chose to be silent. "I hadn't... I've seen it both ways.." he stammered over his own tongue before finally admitting the truth. "I don't know." He looked away from her, afraid that his answer wouldn't be good enough, that he ad just ruined their perfect moment.

"Oh," was Peyote's replied. Her brows pulled together slightly, lips pursing. Somehow, the answer didn't bug her as much as she thought it would. "I guess... I've heard of some couples that don't, for whatever reason. All of them in Sorrow's End did. Even Leetah ended up lifemating that flea-infested barbarian of hers, even though everyone else knew HER best match should have been Rayek," she said, words slightly running together. They stopped abruptly teeth chewing on her llower lip slightly.

Creek still didn't look back at Pey. He wasn't quite sure what or who she was talking about, who Leetah was or Rayek or the "flea-infested barbarian" but that didn't matter. He recognized Sorrow's End as her home, having heard tales about the desert oasis, or so the stories said. "I won't leave. I know that." he muttered, still certain that he was only ruining everything. Why did they have to talk? He never liked talking, and he really wasn't liking it now. He stood stock still, staring at the ground just beyong Peyote, he got that way when he was nervous.

Peyote came to a stop when Creek RUnner did, her hand trailing down his arm to collect his hand in hers. Her steps continued forward just a little bit, as she turned to face him.

"You already have a lovemate that you're worried about then," she asked in a quiet mousey sort of tone to her voice.

Creek looked up at her confused, how had she gotten lovemate out of that, "No" he said, this time managing not to stammer. "I just... I don't know anything right now. I just don't." It was easy for him to admit his weakness, his lack of certainty and knowledge. after all, he had never taken pride in it. While he stared at her he let his power reach out the water, let the waves pull at him. He was thankful for the rythm of the pull. It calmed him. He hoped that was enough. He hadn't expected any of this. He hadn't even expected to stay beyond a day here. Yet, so much had happened. So much keeping him here. He wasn't sure of anything anymore, except his own name and the image or Peyote he now saw when he looked at her.

"Oh, okay," said Peyote again. "Then... we'll.. take this slowly, I guess," she added, her own voice stammering a bit with her own uncertainty. "Unless, you just want to get the whole... joining thing... out of the way and... see if.. maybe.. we could be friends after that?" Okay, this wasn't going as well as she had expected. Every other Recognition she'd seen was all hearts and flowers. The two would meet eyes, then wonder off and by morning one would be moving in with the other. Except for Leetah's. She made that flea-feast ache but good. Peyote frowned lightly at her own thoughts as each was vying for attention with that odd little word-name ringing in her head.

Creek raised his hands to Peyote's waist and let them rest there. "Slow is good. But this isn't just a get it over with thing. That I know. I know this is more than a joining." He moved a hand up to touch her cheek and caress is softly. "I don't know where we go from here. We could become lovemates or even lifemates. But I know it doesn't end with this. You're beautiful. And its not just the Recognition talking. You're kind and sweet and caring. You accepted me. You wanted me to stay." He paused for a moment as he stared into her eyes. "You're unlike any elf I've met before. And now I know, I know I can't ever leave here. Because of you. I've found a new tribe, as long as you're in it." He bent over and lightly brushed his lips against hers, "I won't leave you," he whispered before kissing her again, this time a deeper more passionate kiss.

Peyote couldn't help but smile. The expression was soft, a bit shy, and not a touch coy. At the first kiss, Peyote blushed lightly. Never had such softly spoken words been so heartfelt to her before. At the whisper her eyes closed, and she sighed contently into the next kiss as her arms reached up to twine themselves about Creek's neck. As the increased passion made her pulse start to race, that butterfly of a word fluttered frantically against the edges of her mind, threatening to distract her from the wonderful moment, the feeling of it a touch unpleasant. It left the emotions in her kiss flat.

Creek hesitated after the second kiss. Something seemed wrong. The passion was there, but soemthing was still off. He felt it. He looked down at Peyote with concern and realized that she had not answered her own question. He didn't know if she wanted this to be something more than a joining, or if she even wanted him at all. "Are you okay? with this?" he asked her, his voice still low, just above a whisper. He wanted this to be theirs; he didn't even want to share it with the waves adn the trees, this was theirs.

Peyote openned her eyes as Creek pulled away enough to peer down at her and whisper. Her lips parted as she started to answer, then hung open as she wasn't sure how to voice the conflicting thoughts in her head. "Yeah... yes... I... Yes, yes, of course.. it's just..." she stammered, brows dipping together and lips pulling into a light frown. "I'm... confused.. by something. I don't really know... What... Who..." she asked, voice faltering. There was a pause, and finally that word won out, and she whispered,"............Rhen......."

Her whispering of his Name had the start of a question, like she wasn't sure why she was saying it, or even what it was, but no sooner had the sound formed and was uttered across her lips, then she understood. The realization and Recognition of it brightened, widened, her eyes, and brought the smile back to her lips. "...oh... Rhen," she breathed against, smile growing as she realized: all that he is is just Rhen. The name had stopped being an odd, bothersome little thought fluttering to be free. It was as much a part of her as her own hands or eyes or nose or anything else she could thing of.

Creek returned the smile with an absent nod. He leaned down as if to kiss her again but instead hovered over her, enjoying her scent and soft voice. Hearing his soul name on her lips sounded better to him than if the High Ones themselves had come from the stars to whisper it. His name was all that he was; his tribe, his skill, his self. He is Rhen. And she is Peyote. He had known the second her heard her naem in his mind in the cave, as if persistant hands were opening his eyes to what was always there. He had not been confused, and was happy to see she no longer was. Peyote, the name, meant more now than everyday they had been together in the cave. "Peyote" he said. it wasn't a question; he was letting her know that that was her name. That he knew not just her name but her, all of her. Her scent, her voice, her laugh, her kindness, her everything... And he wanted share in that everything

"Now..." he asked, the one word meaning more than itself. He was asking if she was ready, if she understood, if it was time to replace talking with soemthing else... after all, as a gentleman, he wouldn't force her into anything. "Now...?" he said again...

"Yes...."

She would have once meant that as a coy little question, but today, it comes out as a softly whispered response.
