The Story It's been many years since the war ended and the world bared the scars to prove it. The sky is still covered in a thick black smoke from the times when the world was literally burning. Everyone knew if the world went into another large scale world war with nuclear arms involved, it would be the end for mankind. No one knew that there would be an unseen side effect of the war. As time when by, the few that survived the horrid war struggled to survive the harsh conditions. Anything that was still edible or anything grown was irradiated and lead to radiation poisoning if not medicated. Many of Earths creatures either died off altogether or mutated into dangerous animals. Even with all this, mans will to survive keeps them going. For better or for worse.

Plot
The human race has literally gone back to the dark ages. No electricity. Food is scarce. Only low tech tools work. Hell not even indoor pluming works. This also means rules are pointless. Doesn't sound like the lasting human race has much of a chance let alone defend themselves from mutated animals and super irradiated feral people. Good thing radiation doesn't always kill you and it even sometimes gives you a little extra something. POWERS! YAY! Some are worthless and some perfect for the job. The only bad thing about having powers is your body becomes a homing beacon for almost anything dangerous. Hope you have a blunt object to keep them away. xp

Troy was on another one of his daily run of the city looking for anything useful. Even though he had been in the city for a mew months now, he hasn't seen it all. Most of his time was spent making his fortress. He walked down the street looking for any store that had a name meaning it had something of interest. So far nothing. He had been tempted to kick the dirt out of disappointment a few times, but that led to the street having a big pot hole in it. That and it would cause too much noise. He had learned making noise was not the best thing to do in these times. Worse case scenario would be a pack of wild dogs. Nasty bunch they are. Suddenly, a store name caught his eye. Nicks Sporting Goods (I love changing real names of places by one letter). There would be plenty of useful things in there if no one has gotten to it first.

Troy stepped lightly knowing anything could happen. He had his weapons ready in case anything would jump at him. He had been scared of the silence for a long time, but learned it could be a powerful tool when wandering around. Right now. It was silent. A dreary silent. It didn't smell like anything was dead so there were no animals using the store as a den. Also there weren't any kinds of tracks, human or animal. Three for three. It was as safe as it was going to get and he was going to make with the time he had. He wandered around the store seeing most things were gone, but a lot of the real useful stuff was still here. Of course, anything in the store that shot stuff were cleaned out, but that didn't worry him. He was more a supply and melee weapon kind of guy. He stuffed too large duffel bags he had found with all sorts of camping supplies, fishing supplies, and the metal bars from the weight lifting equipment. He was still light thanks to his strength and felt he was good for the moment. He could always come back for stuff he needed later. It was time to head back.

Troy was on his way back to "The Fortress" as he called it, when the feeling of being watched came over him. He kept moving hoping whatever it was would leave him be, but that usually didn't work seeing as most things that watch your were either hungry or wanted something you had. It was bad enough he was carrying a crap load of stuff at the moment. Sure it wasn't very heavy, but he would be able to maneuver very well if it attacked him. It was then he saw birds gathering. Oh that was a good sign. It was time for action. He was not about to leave the stuff he had found and he really wasn't up to fighting whatever it was so, he breaks into a sprint for the finish. The finish being a few blocks away and there being all kinds of obstacles in the way. A giant, patchy furred cat leaped out of the shadows after him. "Crap! Just what I need! A hungry giant cat that losing its fur!" he said to himself jumping over car and debris piles.

Raven ran a hand through her hair before pulling it back into a loose bun on the back of her head. Only a few carmel strands fell in front of her face as she looked at the car in front of her. It was warn down, but she figured she might be able to get a few parts from it that might work. Then she let her hand reach forward, but then she saw something in the car that made her take a step back. It looked like dogs had tryed to pull someone out of this car and only managed to get the head and shoulders out of the window before finally giving up. With a sigh she turned and started to walk. There was no way in hell that she was going to take anything from that car. As she walked she shoved her hands into her coat pockets just to seem like she wasmore wrapped up. Her jacket was old, which means i had stretched out a bit, but not by much. She would need to make herself a new one here after a while if she didn't want to die from freezing at night. Then again that would just be her luck for something like that. No one else would be able to manage that kind of thing. Just her.

Troy was only half a block from the safe house when it finally happened. He tripped. "Should have seen this coming." he thought to himself as he scraped across the ground until he came to a full stop. There was no time to lose. That cat was hungry and just a few second from getting food. He rolled over quickly swinging his spike bat at the pouncing cat, connecting with the side of its neck. With his strength, it didn't take much to snap the cats neck like a twig. It beast flew off into the wall of an old office building. Like the felled animal, he lay on the ground for a moment to pull himself together. The arms, palms, and leg bled from the violent fall. He was lucky his axe bat fell out of it holster or it might have killed him if he rolled onto it. "Too close." he thought to himself. "Too close." He sat up grabbing the bags and continued toward his home. He needed to get to some first aid he didn't have in his backpack. It was going to be a long climb up the wall and again up the crane.

Troy had only managed to climb over the wall before his injuries caught up with him. He had wrapped them up the best he could with what he had, but they would still need to be changed eventually. He slumped against the base of the wall to regain some of his energy from the climb up. He was safe for the most part, but the birds were still lingering about waiting for him to pass out from exhaustion so they could eat him alive. He watched the birds circling about in the skies above him and growled. "Damn birds. Still having the ability to fly even now. Glad that's the only thing you can do." he said trying not to imagine swarming birds spitting acid or something. He left the bags with the stuff he had got from Nick's seeing as they would be okay inside the wall. There was no food in it either so anything that can come inside the wall wouldn't bother with it. He slowly made his way toward the massive crane base where he would begin his ascent. The crane had an elevator, but its been broken since the EMP bombs hit a few years back. It still worked with a crack, but oddly it was safer to climb the ladder. He still hadn't built a lock on the elevator so he would have to keep holding it or else the elevator would go crashing back down to the ground if he did pass out. He could at least wrap his legs in the ladder so he won't fall and with the safety fencing around it, it was safe from the birds. "Damn you Bill. Why do you have to be so big?" he asked the crane. Bill was the name written on the side of the crane. Seems even during rough times, people still had the time to name things.

Gregory Rhodes... The wolves were creeping up on the fool. He had been travelling through the pack's land and then just up and stopped. He was fooling around with some kind of paper. What it was did not concern the wolves, who just wanted the man dead. They silently surrounded him, preparing to pounce and end his life.
Road sighed, setting his pen down for a moment. There was just something about a ruined cityscape that was made for art. He glanced back and forth from paper to horizon a few times to confirm his accuracy. It was close enough. Satisfied, he put the sketchpad and pens away into his bag and adjusted his gas mask on his face. He moved to stand and then heard the low growl. He went into action immediately, sidestepping the first wolf and ducking the second one that had leapt at his back. He continued this odd dance of avoiding wolves and then with the sudden flourish of his hand produced a lighter. The wolves, out of confusion at this new development, stopped moving for a moment.
That would be the last mistake they would ever make as the lighter was flicked open, throwing a shower of sparks into the air.
___...___
Road stepped carefully around the dead wolves and continued on his way down the path towards the crumbling city. The birds began circling, eager to capitalize on the fresh meat that had been left just for them.

A man walked down an worn road, debris, litter, and the occasional dead body filled the street. Few things could be noted of them man, he wore from head-to-toe an black hooded trench coat like cloak, good for keeping out the cold wind that blew thru the lands. The only notable thing besides the coat, was the sword he used as protection, sheathed on the left of his waist. He wore black fingerless gloves, that could barely be seen poking out from the heavy sleeves of the cloak. The stranger continued walking naught, but his red eyes peering underneath the hood. The enigmatic figure marched thru the debris, silent, taking in all of his suroundings. He stopped abruptly, he noticed some one walking, a young woman perhaps, hands in her pockets as she passed an old car. "...." The figure said nothing, he starting walking again, slowly increasing pace. He got to where he was approximately one block behind the woman. Suddenly he could hear growling behind one of the many cars blocking the other roads. He looked over, and seen something begining to russle some of the garbage littering the road. While his pupils were normaly red, it began to spread thru his black irisis, glowing like flames in the sea of white. He placed his hand on the hilt of his prescious blade.

Gregory Rhodes... Road did not stop walking, but did slow down somewhat when he noticed the odd cloaked figure in his peripheral vision. He would just keep an eye on him. The figure wasn't hurrying or stumbling about, so Road was fairly certain it was not a zombie or a mutant. Some kind of highway brigand possibly, but that sword....
No, it would be best to just play it safe. He slowed down even more when he heard the growling coming from behind the row of cars. He silently palmed one of his lighters, ready to flick the lid at a moment's notice if necessary. While he held it he began preparing to work his own little brand of magic should things turn ugly.

One savage dog leaped from behind the car, begining to bear it's claws, and fangs towards the cloaked man. While the coat was long, it was definantly not bulky, and with the sleeves left plenty of room to maneuver. At the last second, the man stepped to the side, drawing his blade, and running it down the length of the beast. He flipped the sword, removing any blood that still held clinging to it's blade, then sheathed it. He turned as the beast fell to the ground, an long deep cut was down it's side. He could hear the moans of the infected, beginning too make their move towards his position, possibly alerted from the yelp that was released as the blade moved down the feral beast. "...I suppose I should be moving...." Said the man, in a gruff whisper. He began walking, looking over his shoulder, tho the hood prevented most of his sight behind him, he still retained some vision when he turned his head right. He saw in the distance some one, infected or not, he couldn't tell. He could see the young woman in the distance, continuing her path, seemingly oblivious of the what had taken place just a few blocks behind her. He turned an alley, to the left, planning to double back around, and find out who, or what was following him.
