Light grey clouds covered the sky and white flecks began to fall softly from the layer of clouds. The wind was still, and the world was silent as a thin layer of snow built up. Andastre moved through the thin trees of Yisi careful to avoid stepping on the thin ice. Though it was snowing it was still rather warm. Andastre knew she had to be careful having seen a full grown nequus vanish in the center of a lake and not make it back out.

She kept a steady pace her white hooves and socks nearly blending into the snow her curly mane fell gently against her neck as she walked, for having snow on the ground it was a beautiful day.

The orange mare smiled.

Yisi was close to Ryuten, wasn't it? To be honest the paintaloosa mare wasn't that certain any more. After her seperation from Scabbers directions and everything seemed to have gotten mixed around and she had traveled from the very tips of the forests of the ice mountains, through D'ob, and now finally she was in Yisi. It was usually just marshy, but now there was snow sticking to the ground and ice sparkling near the shores of the lakes and streams. Well, it was a shame really that her wings were too tired to carry her on the winds anymore, it seemed that the cold winter winds more than zapped them of energy quicker than warmer weather would. Ack. This was just... not cool. Totally not cool.

To make things worse, Mecriana had very little experiance traveling the land of this area, if any at all. She may had visited one or twice, but that had always been with Scabbers. He was such a smart guy, he'd know where to go, what direction to run, or... or- just something useful! And this cold weather! It made her want to her snort and throw her head in defiance, as if that would bring the warm marsh back. Ruffling her feathered wings against her sides for warmth, the mare haulted in her steps to glance at the world around her. Cold. Wet. Snowy. Yeesh, it wasn't nearly this bad in D'ob! Then again, anything compared to D'ob was just plain freezing cold.

But what was this? Amongst the wintery natural colors, something rather orange caught her attention. At least she thought it was orange, the color was somewhat paled. Could that perhaps be another nequus? Maybe they knew the way to Ryuten? It couldn't hurt to ask... could it?

When was it good to have fur? Why, in winter of course! Damn winter. Ignatius shivered as he made his way through the trees and tucked his wings in tighter against his flanks. Recently he had been staying in the kinder areas of the Hellene territories, their personal little portion of northern D’ob, to avoid this problem. At last, however, a need for something bigger and tastier than rodents had brought him out to the very border of his herd’s lands in Yisi, maybe a bit over the border actually, in the hopes of finding a meal. If he’d put up with the all rodent diet much longer, he might have found himself drooling a bit when he looked at his fellow Nequus, and that was just bad for the image. Might be nice to frighten the outsiders a bit, but he didn’t want his fellow Hellenes wondering if he was planning to make a snack of their young or something.

Damn winter, Ignatius shivered again, why did winter have to exist? It wouldn’t be so bad if he was a grass eater and could just stay in lovely mild D’ob, but he wasn’t and so he hated it. How foals could get so exited over snow he’d never understood; it was just an annoyance to him. Another annoyance was the fact that, so far, there was no more sign of food here than there had been in D’ob. There might be fish under the ice, there might not, and come to that he needed to concentrate less on his frustration with the weather and more on his footing. Once even a bit of ice cracked, you were in trouble because it weakened the whole sheet, and suddenly you could find yourself plunged through previously solid ground into frigid water. He needed to practice standing liftoffs; he really wasn’t good enough at them...

Hello there, what was that?

Ignatius came to a halt and frowned to himself; two Jala mares. It didn’t look as though they were together, or as though they’d spotted him yet. What did they want? What reason did they have to leave D’ob in such unpleasant conditions? Was it just coincidence that they were so close to the Hellene territories? Those questions all needed answers, and he planned to get them. Might as well see if he could observe how they reacted to one another first though. Repressing another shiver, the scaled stallion remained where he was beside a tree; not quite in plain sight, but not actively trying to conceal himself either.

Her ears rose suddenly the mare's emeralds eyes glanced around. What was that, Was there someone else here? She couldn't see anyone in her immediate range. A little ways off there was another jala mare Andastre saw her four colored wings flash through the trees.

Something else caught her attention, it was fairly larger than the mare and almost vanished behind the trees with it's colour she couldn't quite see it but it made her nervous for some reason, perhaps it was the fact she couldn't quite see it, it was unknown. And it bothered her just standing there watching.

"Oi, you over there!" she called to the figure standing by a tree "Aye you," she stared right at him and moved toward the other Jala slowly. Keeping a wary eye on what seemed now to be a very large nequus perhaps a Reya or Aeri?

Her focus was entirely on the orange'ish mare as she pondered how to approach her. Mec wasn't necissarily a frightful or nervous sort, but she was really hoping to avoid arguing with this one. It seemed, when she argued, she didn't get the directions she needed. Thus, she had been led all over D'ob and finally Yisi because of her bad behavior towards the others. She could swallow down her nature long enough to get an honest answer, right? Right? Gosh she hoped so, the sooner she could get to Ryuten the better!

Of course her attention was caught when the other Jala started calling out to... something? To her? Mec took a quick look around, not really focusing on any details, but she didn't see anyone else around at all. At least not in her fleeting glance. Huh. Strange. She was coming towards her though, and her voice wasn't exactly filled with confidence. "Are you alright?" she called out of curiousity, and a bit of wariness; nequus didn't act like that for no reason.

Since the mare was moving towards her, perhaps as a defeansive measure, or maybe hostility- she couldn't tell, Mec decided to do the same. The sturdy Jala's neck arched in preparation, as her ears pricked forward to show she was merely curious herself. As she walked closer, well more like pranced in a semi-trot, she had to wonder if she was missing something, or this mare was just plain mad and seeing things. People did that, Scabbers had told her. "Who are you talking to?" she spoke again when they were closer, not bothering to glance in the direction the other mare was looking in. She was much more concerned about the possible thread closer to her.

...Oi you? He ought to have her for his lunch, crass b***h. Snorting to himself, Ignatius began to move towards the pair. “I think she’s talking to me,” he said levelly as the second mare spoke. Annoying though the orange thing’s tone was, he didn’t see any reason to spark a fight right now; there were two of them and only one of him, after all and fighting around potentially thin ice didn’t sound like a good plan to him. Even if he could win a fight with one or both of them, fighting with cold water wouldn’t end well though that was one advantage to his sales in winter; if he did fall in, if he made it out again he dried very quickly.

“So then,” he turned his fierce amber eyes onto the orange mare and looked her up and down slowly, “you called? What was it you wanted of me?” So far, it seemed that neither of them were here as spies for a rival herd. Well, if they were, the freckled and the spotty were certainly doing rather good impressions of being a stupid little b***h and a daft bint respectively. Gods he was hungry.

"Aye I be fine," she responded to the black Paintaloosa mare The Reya's revealing of itself would show the other mare that she most certainly wasn’t mad. She felt better to actually know what it was that was watching. And it kindly responded for her... Being called seemed to make the reya more irritable perhaps the way she said it... She was in a hurry for him to reveal himself perhaps he found that rude?

"Aye that I did," The crème orange mare said then added apologetically" 'm sorry just felt a lil' uneasy with ye concealed like that." Andastre explained to the Reya trying to smooth over his ruffled 'scales'? Wasn’t he strange he looked like a dragon!

"Ye have dragon in you Sir." she commented with slight awe. There where many legends about dragons where she had come from and was rather surprised to see a nequus with dragon blood. Andastre turned back over to the paintaloosa mare and smiled.

H-oh! Whoa! Stop the madness and hold the crazy, Mec seriously could not believe her eyes. The presence of another voice had drawn her attention away from the orange colored mare, and Mecriana was so baffled by the sight of its owner her step faultered and she had to stop her prancing trot toward the other Jala mare. He seemed to be Reya, but there was also something strange about him as well. Now Mec was a fairly young mare, having recently grown into her adulthood, so she hadn't excatly seen anything like this creature before. Hand never heard of anything like him before. What was it that caught her attention so quickly? That long, thick tail of course! Nequus didn't have tails like that!

For all her worth Mecriana was no coward, but being startled out of her wits was a completely different story. He sounded... friendly? Kind of? He certainly wasn't yelling or screaming, and that was enough to compose herself at least somewhat. Glancing back to the orange mare, she really needed to get a name from her soon enough, she was surprised to find she was as calm in this, er... creature's presence as if he were just any old Reya. Didn't she think it was strange as well? Scales, spikes, and who knew what else!

"Dragon?" Mecriana echoed, partly in wonder but mostly disbelief. Disbelief that the other Jala would even have a name for his sort of appearance. "What in Urin is a dragon?" Scabbers had certainly never told her anything about those kinds of creatures, and certainly not that they could apparently become part of a nequus. Still, the paintaloosa was curious, albeit she still thought the Reya was some sort of unnatural creature, and her fellow Jala didn't seem to be too worried. Settling herself with a shake of her head and her body, as if to rid herself of the heeby-jeebies, she smiled back. Life certainly was interesting as an adult.

Ignatius looked the orange mare up and down with a sneer before turning back to the black one. “I haven’t the faintest idea,” he scoffed, “never heard of such a thing. The only blood I have in me,” he went on, turning his eyes back onto the girl with the funny accent, “is Reya. I’m a freak, thank you so much, not part ‘dragon’ whatever the hell one of those is.” Perhaps approaching them had been a mistake; he really couldn’t afford to start a fight with thin ice around but by all Gods he wanted to rip into the stupid girl. Dragon blood indeed; what was the stupid b***h on?

“In any case, non-existent creatures aside,” the scaled stallion said with a snort, “I suppose I should ask who the pair of you are, and warn you not to go any further east. The Hellene territories are that way, and some members of the herd can be a bit tetchy about strangers wandering in unescorted.” Especially ones with a lot of black on them. Perhaps he’d give the spotted girl a special warning; dim though she seemed she didn’t deserve to be torn apart by his fellows. “Oh yes,” he added after a momentary pause, “my name is Ignatius.” Save them getting uppity and not wanting to give their names until he’d given his; he really didn’t have a patience to deal with that.

Andastre snorted irritated, fine she might as well just keep quiet. Why had only she heard of such things before? Was it that uncommon here? What ever "Sorry Sir, my mistake..." she said apologetically "Never meant any harm." It was like the phooka she met before creatures that came from her family's lore. It didn't matter.

"It's a pleasure to meet ye Ignatius." she bowed "I be Andastre, and I thank ye for the warning I'll remember it." Andastre hadn't known about another heard taking up residence here, it had been a while after all since she's come to this part. She should travel around more often. She'd have to go around the territories now. She could hold her own in a fight, but fighting on thin ice didn't seem like an option to her.

Andastre turned to the other mare "A dragon is a giant lizard with reya wings and spikes all over sometimes they have a mane all the way down their back..." she explained "and sometimes they can breath the elements from their mouths." Andastre explained keeping her wings close to her body.

Watching the strange Reya and his disapproving actions and words sharply pricked Mec's ears. Unlike the others, she was on alert for any sort of movement that could entail a fight, ice on the lakes or not. Not that she'd really experimented with ice before, it looked solid, therefore she assumed it was solid. Apparently he had said he was fully Reya, but that was such a ghastly statement if anyone got just a single look at him. Of course it didn't help that her fellow Jala mare had named what sort of creature could be in his blood, the paintaloosa tended to believe what she was told without a second thought.

"Oh! So the shrila wasn't lying when he said the 'Hellenes' were somewhere in D'ob. He was a nasty sort, but tried to warn me about going to far..." Somewhere. Ha. She couldn't possibly remember which direction the nasty creature had sent her in, though she supposed if she beat herself up about it enough it'd come back to her. And since this obviously wasn't Ryuten, she may as well head off in that direction next. "I'm Mecriana", she returned with a bob of her head. Huh, for such a strange and ugly creature, he sure was helpful. Scary looking yes, and definatly looking as if he could pomel something to the ground, but nonetheless ugly. Spikes, scales, and that tail; totally not attractive at all. She gave an involuntary look of dismissal.

So, Ignatius and Andastre, interesting names, she just hoped she could remember them both. When Andastre returned her attention back to her, Mec allowed for a very impressed look. Whether or not such a creature existed, it sounded amazing. "I've never heard of lizards with wings, and breathing elements, that surely sounds..." uh, what was the word she was looking for? "fantastical!" Scabbers had always said her wild stories about monsters as a foal had sounded fantastical. He was just so great at giving compliments she thought with a smile.

Of course, the paintaloosa didn't know the true meaning her zrun companion had attatched to the word.

The scaled stallion gave a harsh laughed and nodded to the black girl’s, Mecriana’s, words, choosing to ignore the look she’d given him. It was better than what he got from most people after all, and he really couldn’t afford to lose his temper over anything right now, especially something so small as a funny look. “Fantastical indeed,” he agreed, “I’ve never heard any such tales and I’ve been around most of Urin... Still, I suppose I may have missed a local tale or two.” Flying lizards eh? Well whatever; the strange-spoken girl’s wild ideas didn’t matter on way or the other.

“In any case,” he went on with a shrug of his wings, “it costs me nothing to warn you of the place; northeastern D’ob just about up to Ryuten, and on eastward to the edge of Casa Tiner’s forest.” If they did wander in and he happened to be nearby at the time it might be left to him to get rid of them... though he supposed that could be sort of enjoyable; he hadn’t seen any true action since that weird fiery Ichsa he’d met before joining the Hellenes. Sparring was all very well, but it wasn’t quite the same really.

“Some ignorance is tolerated,” he added as he recalled how he himself had managed to wander in unawares and got himself recruited, “but you’d best be especially careful Mecriana.” He shook his head and gave a snort of amusement at the foolishness of his herd mates. “The Hellenes seem to think that black coated Nequus are evil, and are likely to attack you on sight. Entirely stupid of course, but then that’s people for you; most of them are pretty damn stupid.”

Andastre listened carefully to the dragon like Reya as he outlined the boarders of the hellene's territory. Andastre gave a not "Aye I got it Sir thank you." She gave a little bow.

Andastre smiled at the paintaloosa mare "It's nice to meet ye Merciana." She flicked her curly orange tail and moved to stand over beside the other mare "Why don't ye come with me," she offered to the rather seemingly forgetful mare.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 03, 2009 7:09 am

Heh, there was just so many directions she had gotten lately, and most of them seemed to get jumpled up together. Apparently anyway, she wasn't quite sure about that in the slightest. Though there was something he said that brought her brows shooting up. "Evil? Well geez! And its not like I'm entirely black coated!" Attacked on sight indeed! The mare turned slightly to raise her multicolored black wings she had previously rested against her sides, exposing the large white and spotted blanket that stretched all the way from her rump, across her back, nearly touched her belly, and spread to her withers. "If anything I'm half white! Humph, evil indeed, that's just stupid." The Hellenes must have been some brand of crazy, or idiotic, or perhaps some mix of both. Oh that ruffled her feathers as she allowed her wings to settle back down onto her sides once more.

Though a creature like Mecriana practically lived for the fight. She may just pay a visit to these Hellenes, at least their border. She'd love to pound their silly little ideals back into their heads.

Just as this plan was about to formulate however, she was distracted by Andastre and swung her head around to pay full attention. "Oh that's so nice of you!" She was so taken in by the kind offer, Mec apparently forgot about her plot. The paintaloosa grinned and bobbed her head, "That'd be woderful, I just need to know how to get back to D'ob and then I'll be fine." Instead of asking how to get to Ryuten, the mare had decided to go back to the spot she had met the Shrila at, and then try her hoof at his directions once more. It didn't even occur to her these two obviously knew exactly where Ryuten was.

Ignatius gave Mecriana a sharp-toothed grin as she grumbled about the Hellenes, and then changed tack to accept Andastre’s offer. “Well, I did say it made no sense. Would you believe,” he went on, “that some people think I’m evil just for the way I look? Some people just don’t have any brain at all, do they?”

She hadn’t said he was evil or anything of the sort, but she had given him that look, that look that said he was different and she didn’t like it. Probably too much to hope that she’d get the hint though; she didn’t seem all that bright and in any case, sometimes he was less than nice. Still, just because people’s judgments based on his appearance weren’t completely untrue didn’t make them any better.

“So, I suppose you’re out here because you got lost,” Ignatius said to Mecriana, choosing not even to wait for a response from her, “what about you?” he turned to Andastre. “It’s not exactly pleasant out here this time of year; almost everyone I’ve met who doesn’t have a fixed territory seems to be in D’ob.”
