Melpomene was out wandering the neutral area since she needed a small break from her new pack. She was still worried about what would happen now that she has found a home again. She sat down in the woods near the river and frowned. She had never gone a long time without something bad happening so she was at a lost of what to do with herself. She looked around before staring down at her bloody paws.

Zero trotted along the river. He was feeling better about himself all the time and couldn't help but be a little glad he had life, no matter what type of quality that life was. He froze as the breeze brought him a new sent... blood. He broke into a run down the river, but wasn't panicked; it smelt old. He slowed as the smell got stronger, and realized it was a helix. "Hello?" He called timidly, walking slowly within a few yards of the helix. "Is everything alright?" Thousands of thoughts were spinning through his mind. He didn't think it was dead... and there was a split-second when the idea of someone like him flashed in his mind. But he quickly stopped that thought.

Melpomene looked up at the timid hello. She stared slightly shocked at the dead helix. She tilted her head studying the male wondering how he was alive, if you could call it that. "Hello." She said calmly, "Everything is fine. If you call meeting the walking dead fine." She was already starting to blame herself for meeting this undead helix. Only she would end up meeting someone as odd as this. Perhaps it was a sign? Of things to come now that she has a home again.

Her words made him smile a little. After all, he was used to odd reactions, though she'd seemed calmer than most. Yet, her voice was so... cynical? Like she seen too much hardship and pain. Something in it was reflected in himself. "Sorry to bother you... I just smelled blood and thought maybe someone was hurt, but I suppose you've had a kill recently?"

Melpomene shook her head. "It's not a bother. As for the blood you smell.... no I haven't killed recently." She said smiling sadly. It was true. No deaths had happen that would be blamed on her and her tragedy bringing ways. "No you are smelling the blood that is on me to warn others about who I am." She said, "I'm Melpomene the tragedy bringer."

"That's quite a title." Zero remarked, not taking it lightly. "I'm Zero... just Zero." He took a few steps closer, not closing the gap between them, just wanting to get a better smell. Normally, he'd wish the other helix the best of luck, and be on his way, but something about Melpomene captured his attention. He wanted to know her past, the tragedies she spoke of. But of course he couldn't just come out and ask her. So instead, he asked, "And what tragedies am I to be warned of?" Hoping he wasn't being too blunt.

"Yes it is quite a title." Melpomene said, "I would like to say pleasure meeting you Zero but I doubt it'll be much pleasure." She watched as he took a few steps closer and tensed up. Why was he coming closer? She shook her head trying to get rid of the bad thoughts that were popping up. "You should be warned of death. It is the most common occurrence around me. Also you may have a terrible fight with a friend or be the cause of losing someone dear." She stared off into space thinking about her past and all the death in it. She turned her eyes back to him and tilted her head. "Now then what happened to you? Why are you back among the living when you're so clearly dead?"

He frowned at her words. "Ironic, that you're warning the dead of death. As for friends, my only one isn't around for the time being." He slowly sat down where he was and thought for a moment. "I'd like to tell you why I'm alive now, but I don't know. Don't know why I'm here now, don't know how or when I died, don't know who I was before I died." He said very nonchalantly. He turned back toward her and said, "What about you? How did you get a name like 'the tragedy bringer? ...If you don't mind my asking?'"

Melpomene smiled at what Zero said. "That is pretty ironic." She said frowning herself, "Too bad you don't know. Perhaps you'll remember one day." At his questions she grew silent. She thought about what to tell him. "I ended up destroying the last few packs I was part of. I also ended up killing my mate. That's why they marked me with the blood of those I killed. Now others will see what I do." She said leaving out the part of abandoning a bunch of pups to their doom while trying to save some others who fell to their death.

".....oh." What a horrible past. "Well, be at ease. You don't have to worry about cursing me." He commented, assuming that's what she was: cursed. He twitched slightly thinking maybe that's not what she was or thought, and immediately regretted saying it. But he wasn't sure what to say to make up for it. Zero scrabbled his words to apologize."Well... I just meant that if you wanted a bit of company, that being with me wouldn't be a problem 'cause I'm already dead.... Not saying that being with you would kill me! I just don't.... *sigh* Oh I don't know." He hung his head in defeat. He was only trying to offer her what little comfort he could. But figured he just screwed his chance of her wanting to associate with her anymore.

Melpomene sat back and let Zero go on before finally snickering. "It's alright. As long as you don't mind the chance that you may die again or have something else happen." She said smiling at him. He was an odd one to apologize so quickly for saying something that didn't bother her anymore. "I would enjoy some company. I don't have a lot of it anymore." She said wagging her tail slightly.

He gave her a small smile. "Yeah, me either." He turned his head away. "So, Melpomene," He paused. Saying her name made him feel strange. But he couldn't put a paw on what exactly he was feeling. While pondering, he realized that he stopped in the middle of a sentence and quickly picked back up where he had left off, ignoring his intuition. "-Have you been alone ever since... your horrors?" He said the last part with a weak voice. He knew all too well what it was like to be seen a monster... to be unbearably lonely. Perhaps he had better just change the subject, no more talk that depressed him more than he already was.

Melpomene smiled at Zero. For some odd reason her mind flashed on her deceased mate. Her smiled faded slightly and she shook her head. Zero must remind her of her mate or maybe it's something about him like the way he acts. It's very similar. "Yes I have been alone since then. But I have found a new pack to call home although it's just starting out so there aren't many of us." She said. She took in how his voice sounded and began to change the subject. "What have you been doing? Anything interesting?"

"Hhhmmm... Nothing much. Certainly nothing as significant as joining a new pack. Though I have been traveling with a pup... who's quite entertaining." He smiled. "You should meet her. She's more of a chatterbox than I am." At that comment he couldn't help but wonder how long this would last. It kind of made him sad to think that they might just part ways shortly, never to meet again.
So he slyly added, "So whatcha doing out here? Are you planning to head back to your pack soon?"

Melpomene tilted her head at Zero. He wanted her to meet a pup? Most helixes she met wouldn't let her near a pup at all. "Well I think traveling with a pup is significant. You aren't alone if you're with a pup." She said.
She paused at his questions thinking about them seriously. "Out here? I guess I'm just wandering around. Haven't gotten rid of the habit of keeping on the move yet." She said thinking about how much she's traveled in the West, "As for going back..... I don't really know. I think I want to explore here for a bit longer. Perhaps then I won't feel the need to travel when I go back."
