I'm a music major in college and was wondering if anyone has ever had the problem of having excess spit in your mouth while playing. By excess I mean that it actually interfears with your playing to the point that you have to stop to literally swallow. And that sounds terrible and isn't very musical unless of course theres a rest in the music. But usually in solo rep and in etudes you can't just stop.
My previous teacher said it might be acid build up pending what I eat, but I've changed my eating habits and am still having the same problem.
So I was wondering if anyone had a answer for me...that would be amazing. But I probably just have to deal with it. But I figured it was worth a shot posting something.
I play on a proffestion flute (I have a muramatsu.) Not that it matters, I'm just really happy and proud of it and though I should mention it. Hehehe. heart

Yeah, when I first started using the "spitting seeds" technique for tounging I would have a lot of excess spit in my mouth. I just try to not drink water or brush my teeth within half an hour of playing my flute at a lesson or performing. (you shouldn't eat or drink anything exceot for water half an hour before playing and if you do, brush your teeth or at least rinse your mouth out with water before playing)

I do that sometimes, but it's usually when I'm looking down on my music. (like when it's laying out on the floor and having completely no posture or anything.) Maybe that's what you're doing?

I have the same problem. I don't know of a solution, though. sad
