Recently my underside snare head broke because of my crappy stand that also broke, so I want to change both heads. I really don't know much about parts and brands, so I was hoping someone could tell me which heads I should buy. I'm looking for a heavier sound... dunno how to describe it, maybe more metallic. Can anyone help? biggrin

I have a remo ambassador head on my snare, which is supposed to be for all kinds of music. I tuned it onto the snare as tight as it could possibly go, though, and the result is a really strong attack sound, with minimal overtones. I hear that pinstripe by remo is good for a sound like that, too. And evans has a genera dry head that is perfect for death metal.

Try Aquarian "Hi-Energy" for the top head. I have used them for years and love them. Great for heavy hitters. They keep their tone under all conditions. And you can crank the hell out of em'.
Stick with Remo or Evans for the bottom.

They are sold almost everywhere.

Evans EC1 Coated heads are amazing! And any thinner (1-ply or thin 2-ply) head on the snare side will do. I never really care about the bottom head as long as it rings nicely.
