What we know - The ancients were born from the planet, spoke with the planet, unlocked the planet and when they died they'd go to the Promised Land. Approx. 2000 years prior to Final Fantasy VII Jenova was sealed away presumably by the Cetra. From the tapes Gast made of his talks with Ifalna (is that spelled right?), we know that Jenova infected the Cetra with a virus that turned them into monsters, and that it lured them close by disguising itself as lost loved ones. We also know that the WEAPONs were created by the planet but they were never used until the events of the game.

So how did they seal Jenova? Why weren't the WEAPONs used? And how was the world saved?

Methinks this has the potential to be a great spin-off game. biggrin

I wonder... does anyone know how widespread the Cetra's civilization was? Were there just a few settlements here and there, or did they have cities and governments? I'm sure they said something in the game, but my notoriously poor memory is acting up on me again.

I don't recall. But there had to have been something if all that's left by the begining of the game is the Temple of Ancients and the Ancient City.

So, do you have any answers to these questions formulating? Since you're the creative one and all. biggrin

Personally, I'd like to see a female character take the lead role. Such isn't done nearly enough in games nowadays, and, for some reason, the Cetra seem more feminine to me. It just seems to fit that they should be represented by a female.

Actually I was thinking that the main character could be either gender and just leave it to the player to decide.
As for answers... I'm working on it. So far I've come up with this idea that each Cetra of the group would somehow be aligned with a certain summon monster and that they'd get specific abilities from that along with whatever abilities they might get from a job/class. The player would get to choose which summon they're aligned with after choosing gender and naming the character. *shrugs*
Oh, and you remember that 'Redbreed' character someone else came up with (I don't recall who.)? I was thinking that it could make a brief appearance. *cough*possiblebossfight*cough*

Oh, wow, I didn't even think of this until now... if Materia is the knowledge of the Ancients (who are the Cetra), then the Cetra would have natrual magic, wouldn't they? biggrin
Perhaps, rather than aligning groups with certain summons, they should be aligned with elements. That would dictate where and how they live, what magic they're best with, and which summons they are able to use. I guess the most powerful summon for each element would fill in the guardian position in each clan. Phoenix, Alexander, etc. Of course, that means some summons would have to be borrowed from other FF games...

If that didn't sound too coherent, it's because I wrote it while watching Naruto. sweatdrop

xd I understood it perfectly (I think). 3nodding Summons from other games? Works for me. *scribbles down a mental note to look up summons and the ff7 beastiary*
Okay, if this game is going thru the First Crisis and ending shortly after the sealing of Jenova, then some people are going to be infected by its virus. Will element alignment affect what creature the infected person turns into?

Sounds good to me. 3nodding
*Imagines a fat guy from the Phoenix clan turning into a bomb.* xd

*Tries to figure out which summon would be the guardian of each clan.*

Fire: Phoenix
Water: Leviathan
Lightning: Ramuh
...
Crap, that's all I can think of. neutral

Okay, okay, I need to know right now what kind of gameplay we're going for. Standard FFVII ATB system, or chess-style strategy, or what?
PostPosted: Wed Oct 26, 2005 8:39 am

I was thinking the battle system would be like FF Tactics.
As for summons... here's what I thought:
Fire: Ifrit
Ice: Shiva
Water: Leviathan
Lightning: Ramuh
Wind: Typhoon
Earth: Titan
Holy: Alexander
Dark: either Hades or Odin

Alright, tactical RPG it is. My favorite kind, too. biggrin
And Odin can't be Dark. He's too cool. Let's go with Hades. 3nodding
Also... what about Gravity? Diablos, maybe?
PostPosted: Thu Oct 27, 2005 9:39 am

Okay, I guess I was a little vague using the term dark. I mean it to include gravity and other time/space magic as well as certain status effects like Doom/Death Sentence, Petrify, and a few others I can't recall at the moment.
So we're going with Hades, right?

Yeah, Hades seems to cover all those bases. 3nodding

Alright, so we've got a bit of basic background and a gameplay genre. The conflict and many key parts of the story are provided for us. A few characters couldn't hurt at this point, right?
