Inspired be rose_buds92's Poetry contest, I've decided to have a little literary contest of my own.
But this is no Poetry contest, oh no. as beautiful as poetry is, it seems a little too easy to me; this contest is a short story contest.
The conditions are as follows:
-The story must be at LEAST a page long, meaning if you're working in a MS Word program it must take up one page. which is about 5 or 6 well versed paragraphs.
-The story can be as free as your imagination, I ask that you try to keep it a little clean though, I'll be the one reading and judging them and I'd rather not read a huge page full of smut. However, if you are going to write smut I ask that you keep it tasteful.
-No Plagiarism (this should be rule number one) if you are caught plagiarizing someone elses work you will be immediately disqualified and reported to the head honcho's here (not sure what they'll do, if anything but still...don't steal other people's work)
other than that I ask that you have all entries in by the end of April, and I'll try to read through all of them and judge them by mid May.
The Means of Submitting: Please post your literary work on your Gaia Journal, or if you have a Deviantart account, please post it as a submission there; then, post a link to your submission in a comment on this thread. I will read through and judge it, and hold my rating until April when I will no longer accept entries.
Now!
The part I'm sure you've ALL been waiting for, the prizes biggrin
1st place will earn a lovely sum of 6,000 Gold
2nd place will find themselves with 3,000 Gold
and 3rd place will earn a good 1,500 Gold
please try to be good sports with all of this, I know competition can bring out the worst in us but I'm sure we can all get along and appreciate everyone's work.
Updates
3.10.09 MsKittyJenJen is hereby disqualified from the competition until further notice (I.E. she makes her journal public so that I can actually read her entry)
--
The winner by default is claireskitten!
reason being: hers was not only a fantastic story that I enjoyed reading but also, nobody else entered a story that I was able to actually access.
thanks for participating (those that did) and hopefully more will enter in any future contests I might have.

Here's a link to my short story. It's not exactly traditional, but I had SO much fun writing it. ^_^

I'll give it a try, but I don't think I'll be able to finish with all my work piling up.

I've been reading a lot of Bill Bryson lately. He's technically listed as a travel writer, but he really writes his memoirs of his travels with lots of wit and humor.
