The training grounds is only a large patch of asphault with trees scattered around the outside. It may seem plain, but Ritsu occasionally brings in equipment for more specific types of training.

Nakamura sat cross-legged on the asphalt, shaded beneath the delicate leaves of a maple tree. Untouched on the ground before him, lay his zanpakutō.
"Hurry up and give me your name already," he sighed, looking down at the sword in frustration. "You can't keep hiding it forever." It was sad really: Lieutenant, and he still hadn't achieved Shikai. It wasn't that he didn't have any talent talent. His sword just happened to be a stubborn pain in the...
"Alright," he tried again. "How about we do this properly? I'm Tadashi Nakamura, vice captain to Ritsu Downer of Squad 3. Nice to meet'cha. Your name is...?"
Silence.
He hadn't really expected it to work. If it was as easy as that, every shinigami and their grandmother would have achieved Shikai. But since the other methods hadn't worked, it had seemed worth a try. In all truth, he really should just ask his captain about the manner, and receive proper training. However, he had really wanted to reach this accomplishment on his own. Still, the way his luck was going, he wasn't going to have much choice in the matter. Looks like he might have to ask Ritsu about it after all.

Not a sound, not even the gentle rustle of the tree's leaves could be heard as Ritsu flash stepped on a thin branch of the tree behind his vice captain. He watched as his only member seemed to speak to himself, and he began questioning his sanity. He crouched down and wrapped his hands around the branch he was sitting on. It wasn't really in his nature to greet people, he normaly left that to the other person, so there he sat, with no indication he was there. After a little while, he sighed silently to himself when it was silent. He carefully leaned forward just enough so the lanky branch bent a little lower without snapping and carefuly released his grip on the branch. He hung from the branch with his feet, his head right behind his vice. "Naka, who are you talking to?..." He asked in a worried tone. His red scarf danced to and fro in the wind as he waited for an answer.

“Downer-taichou!” The shinigami jumped to his feet in surprise, throwing his captain a quick salute. “Who am I talking to?” he repeated, stalling while he searched for the right words to express his dilemma, “Well, if I knew, I probably wouldn’t have been talking in the first place, but, to give you an answer, this!” He casually kicked his zanpakutō into the air and caught it with one hand, holding the blade out for Ritsu to see.
“However, currently we are suffering some… communication issues,” admitted the lieutenant sheepishly.

Ritsu hated it when people called him by his last name, not because it made it sound official, it actually was the exact opposite. It sounded more like an insult. "Please, call me anything but Downer..." Ritsu nearly let his feet slip from the branch when Naka kicked up his zanpaku-to. The tree branch slowy wobbled up and down as he caught his ballance. "You want to achieve Shikai?" He reached up and grabbed the branch, and let go with his feet so he was hanging by one hand, his feet barely above the ground. "You could've just asked me to help..." He said as he let go and landed on his feet. He pulled a blade whiter than January snow out of it's sheath tied around his waist and gripped it tightly. "You seem ready, but are you sure you want to learn right now? We could do some other training first...."

"But Dow—Ritsu-taichou!" he exclaimed, correcting himself midway through his sentence. "Shikai is pretty much mandatory for a lieutenant. That I don't know it now is..." His face flushed a deep shade of red, as he plunged into a sudden bow. "Please teach me Shikai, Ritsu-taichou!"

Ritsu's eye twitched when Naka almost called him by his last name, but grinned when he corrected himself. "Fine then. If you really want to learn Shikai..." He said as he dug the tip of his blade into the ground infront of him. "Attack me. And don't hold back." He held his zanpaku-to upright with his index finger pressed down on the bottom of the hilt. He hoped that he wouldn't hesitate, even though he was just ordered to attack his own captain.

"Alright! But don’t blame me if you get hurt," came Nakamura’s confident reply. Considering his captain’s skill level though, he really wasn’t all that worried. Joking aside, he shifted his sword over his head, into jodan. It was his captain, so he didn’t know quite what to expect. So, he was just going to have to give it his all and see what would happen. With a sudden yell, he took a step towards Ritsu and brought his sword down in Nami Gaeshi, a swift and powerful diagonal swing.

He seemed like an entirely different person as he just barely ducked to avoid the blow. His usual fearful expression was replaced a serious demeanor. His pearcing yellow stared at his vice emotionlessly as he tightened his grip on his zanpuku-to and swung it in an uppercut. He followed with a powerful blow downwards with one hand on the sword's hilt and the other pressing down on the blunt edge of the blade. "You can do better than this. I will kill you if you don't defend yourself..." His eyes were locked on Naka, analyzing every single movement, twitch, or even noise he made to try to predict his next move.

Defend himself, huh? Well, the best defense was a good offense, so he was just going to have to strike harder and faster. Since his nodachi was a good deal longer than Ritsu's sword, it seemed a smart idea to take advantage of the range. After all, no matter how fast Ritsu was, as long as there was distance between them, he'd have time to react.
Keepign this in mind, he dropped into a crouch, and made a sweeping strike at Ritsu's feet. Even if the captain managed to dodge it, it would bring him vital time to prepare another strike.

Right as Naka dropped down, Ritsu backflipped and landed on his zanpaku-to. The sword stood straight up and he held himself above it with one hand on the hilt, doing a one hand handstand (say that five times fast XD). He didn't sway at all, his balance was perfect.
"Sorry for this." He mumbled under his breath before completely releasing his reiatsu. A massive force covered the entire training grounds, powerful enough to bend thick trees down until they began to crack. "Hope you really are strong enough..." His eyes held both pity and hope for him. He might not make it through completely unscathed, but at least he can handle it.
(Okay, first you need him to pass out from the massive reiatsu. After that, you need to have at least 4 entire posts of him meeting his zanpaku-to. When I did this in another guild, it was hilarious because my OC's zanpaku-to was an insane lunatic in a straight jacket and she met him in a vacant hospital. XD)

Nakamura looked behind him in surprise as the captain landed on the sword. The last thing he saw was the gold of of the reiatsu emanating from Ritsu's hands, then, everything went black.
"Dammit. What was that?" he wondered aloud, leaning forwards into a sitting position. It took him a moment to recognise his new surroundings. He was in a narrow, passageway with tall, white walls, with many strange figures engraved into them. Above him, he could see see the open sky. Well, if there was one thing he knew, he certainly wasn't in Seireitei anymore. However, they way he saw it, he wasn't going to figure out where he was by just standing there. Might as well move forwards.
Upon reaching the end of the passage, he suddenly stopped. It had split off into two directions. Odd. Since there was no indication of which direction he should go, he decided to trust his instinct and turn right. After all, if he was wrong, he could just head back, right? However, when this path too ended in a fork, he began to grow suspicious, and after two more turns like this, his theory was confirmed.
"A labyrinth?"
(Gah, I'll finish typing up the other three posts in a bit. Sorry if this is takin' a while. I busted up my hand something nasty, so I gotta avoid typing for a while.)

Ritsu sighed as he sealed his reiatsu the moment Naka was knocked out. Things seemed pleasantly calm until a small black creature fluttered towards Ritsu. A hell butterfly!? What now!? Ritsu slowly lowered himself down and nimbly landed on his feet. The butterfly gracefuly flew around him once and landed on the back of his hand, flooding the message into his mind. "This is terrible timing..." He looked down at his vice and muttered an apology under his breath. "Sorry, but I have to go. Good luck on meeting your zanpaku-to...." And with that, Ritsu was gone.
[Well, this is kinda sudden, but just finish the posts when you can. Right now, Ritsu needs to go back some people up in a fight so when you're done with the posts, have him wake up. Then, he'll know Shikai]

Ritsu stumbled back into the training grounds, gripping his left arm. It wasn't in pain at all, it jus felt a bit...weird. Numb, but now exactly numb. He was a bit surprised when he saw that Naka was still passed out. He figured that in this part of the training, it would be okay if he left him there. Just to be safe, Ritsu pulled out a sticky note and a pen and wrote a note. He stuck it on Naka's forehead and walked away.

“Gah! I don’t have time for this!” After what seemed to have been the hundredth wrong turn, Nakamura was growing rather frustrated. The sky was beginning to turn dark around him, and around all down the corridor, small torches were lighting up, drawing the attention of several moths. “I can’t possibly be this complicated, I mean, a Labyrinth? It might make sense if I was all serious like Downer-taichou, but…” He rubbed his temples, trying to conceive a plan. If walking down the passage was working, then walking above it might just be the answer. After all, it wasn’t as though there was a rule saying he couldn’t scale the walls. If he walked from above, finding the exit— and his Zanpakutō— would be a piece of cake.
Retracing his steps a bit, he scouted along the passage for a suitable climbing point. It didn’t take long before he found one. There was a large engraving along one wall, where the stone protruded far enough just to provide good footing. It was only a couple meters to the top, no sweat. Gripping unto the store, he began his ascent, moving quickly and with dexterity, only pausing when he failed to find a good handhold on the stone. After a short while, of this, he paused and looked up, he was sure he had climbed four metres at least, but it scarcely seemed like he was even halfway there. In fact, it had seemed just as far as the last time he had checked … Suspiciously, he climbed another two metres, just to be sure. His destination wasn’t any closer. “Is it an illusion?” he wondered aloud. It could be possible that some kind of demon magic was masking the true distance to deter him. In order to test this hypothesis, he tried dropping to the ground. Not a smart decision. He winced as his head cracked against the ground. He made a mental note to avoid experiments like that in the future.
