Miss My Bliss

I'm type one and I got diagnosed when I was five and I have lived with my mom the whole time. I'm starting to really think about going to college and living on my own and so I was wondering how other people deal with it. What do you do when you have the stomach flu? What things are hardest to deal with as a diabetic? Are there thing you think be hard that aren't?

Thanks a lot!

Oh hello there! I'm here to give you some advice on the situation, because this was my first year at college.

While it can be scary to live alone, just make sure you have a good plan. I have a huge case of juice in my room in case of lows, and both of my roomates (I live with 2 other girls) know that I'm a diabetic.

Even though you'll feel alone, if you make good friends with your roomate, everything becomes a lot easier.

Both of my roomates now know what to do if I'm low // if I pass out - so I feel alot better, I know that someone is able to contact someone if I pass out.

Im just assuming that you will have roomates ^_^;; most college freshman dorm / do the roomie thing.

If you're sick, just make sure you email your professor / and get notes from friends. Professor's attendance policies are different so, its usually up to your disgression if you choose to skip or not.

You might want to look in to if your school has a disability office as well. Even if you arn't "Disabled" diabetes IS techniqually a disability, and I know that because i've registered with them, all of my professors are alerted ahead of time, and they know that if im drinking or eating something in class - its for my BS and not for the sake of my stomach.

Jus tmake sure ot tell people, the more people who know, the more people can help you. =3 It'll be fine! its scary at first but it gets better.

Make good friends with somebody and explain all the information they'll need to know about your diabetes. and become close with your roomates and explain to them everything too about your diabetes. Like I'm only 16 and I'm still in 10th grade but shortly after I was first diagnosed in 1st grade when I was 7 I met Kat shortly after and she knows everything about my diabetes she helps me manage it each day she always goes to my docters appoinments with me and she always goes with me too the nurse at school when she can.. Well not like every time but most of the time. She understands my diabetes best out of all my friends. So yeah make a friend like I have it really helps.
