Before you leave

“Lily Flower, Will you go out with me?” Lily just ran on ahead of James, crying.
“I don’t think now is the best time to ask,” said Sirius. James just stared at Lily’s retreating form, bewildered. As soon as Lily had turned the corner, and left James’ sight, James seemed to come out of a trance.
“Make up some excuse, a good one,” said James to Sirius as he took off after Lily. Sirius just shook his head and continued on his way to Transfiguration.

“Lily, What’s wrong?” asked a concerned James.
“Was it something I done?” Lily just kept running ahead of him. Only sobs could be heard coming from her. James caught up with her, but didn’t try to stop her moving.
“The sooner you tell me, the sooner you’ll feel better and the sooner you can go back to class.” Lily just ignored him and continued on her way.
“So where are we going?” asked James.
“Astronomy Tower,” escaped Lily’s lips. James continued to run with her, but he kept his mouth shut. When they finally got to the tallest tower of Hogwarts, Lily sat down against the wall opposite the door. James went and sat down next to her.
“Can you tell me what’s bothering you?” Lily leant her head on James’ shoulder and soon James could feel warm tears soaking through his uniform. James put his arm around her and stroked her head, knowing that she would tell when she was ready.
“They’re both backstabbers!” Lily mumbled, after what seemed like an eternity.
“Who?”
“Zandra and Tim.”
“I thought she was your best friend, and him your boyfriend.”
“They were.”
“What happened.”
“I caught her making out with him.”
“Well, it’s not that bad a loss. He was a jerk anyway.”
“But I liked him.”
“I’m sure you can find someone better than him.”
“What about Zandra? She was my only friend.”
“You can hang out with me…”
“I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m leaving Hogwarts. I sent a letter to my parents just before.”
“But…you can’t leave.”

There is just one thing I want to say,
before you leave my life today,
I just want to say,
how much you mean to me.

“But I have to. There’s no reason for me to stay.”

“What about the Christmas ball? What about Graduation next year?”
“I jut want to get away from this place. It holds too many memories.”

Before I knew you I couldn’t do anything,
then from the moment I saw you,
everything seemed easy.
Before you go, I just want you to know,
I love you.

“But I’ll miss you,” muttered James.
“I’m sure you’ll find some pretty girl to go after.” James just looked surprised that she had heard him.

You might not realise it,
but you mean the world to me.
Even though our time has passed,
I still wish we could be.

“The only girl I have ever had eyes for…was you.” Lily looked up and saw truth in his eyes.

Just because you have to go,
doesn’t mean that I’ll leave.

“How come you never told me truth before?” Lily asked.
“I did. But you just didn’t believe me.”
“I guess not.”
“Lily, when you go, I will miss you terribly. I just wish that you would stay.”

I think it has passed too quickly,
that our time has come too fast.
I guess that I am wrong,
And that the time did last.

“I can’t stay. Every time I walk down a corridor, tears will well up in my eyes.”
“I will be with you every step of the way to wipe those tears away.”

There is just one thing I want to say,
before you leave my life today,
I just want to say,
how much you mean to me.

“I can’t stay here. Yes, these last 5 and a half years have been great, but it’s those memories that will make me cry.”
“If you stay, then I can help you to make new memories, memories that will make you laugh.”
“Thanks for being so nice to me James, but my Parents will be expecting me to come home within the week.”

Before I knew you I couldn’t do anything,
then from the moment I saw you,
everything seemed easy.
Before you go, I just want you to know,
I love you.

“You could just send an owl saying that you are no longer coming home.”
“But I want to go home.”
“If you leave, wouldn’t it be confirming to Zandra and Tim, that you were so badly affected by it.”
“I don’t care what they think anymore. Or what anyone else thinks.”
“I think you should stay and make the people who care for you happy,” mumbled James, this time Lily didn’t hear him.

Every moment that we spent together,
I replay again in my mind.
Just because you're leaving,
doesn’t mean the memories will fade.
The time we had will last forever,
in my mind.

“Lily, I really don’t want you to leave.”
“Why won’t you let me go, and be happy?”
“Because I know that you could be happy here, and if you stayed it would make someone else extremely happy.”
“How could I be happy here with all the memories haunting me?”
“I could make you happy again.”
“How do you know that could make me happy?” James just stared into her emerald eyes and said,
“I just know.”

Before you go,
I want you to know,
I love you.

With that James got up. Just as he went through the door he turned and said.
“Before you go, I just want you to know, I love you.”
