I know what he can do, but when he uses Darkness, can the person he uses it on see the orb of darkness? I need to know.

As far as I know, nobody can see in a globe of darkness. Not Drizzt and his Targe is blind too.

The globe of darkness no one can see in (kinda like it were a small harmless void), but I believe the target can see it coming- you know before it lands on them and stuff... unless maybe if it were already in some darkness. XP

Well... if he used it on a devil, it wouldn't work. They can see in Darkness spells. There's also some spells which let you see in Darkness (such as True Seeing, I believe), and Darkness can also be dispelled using a light spell (Daylight works best, but Sunburst and other spells that fall under the category of light will work too) or Dispel Magic.
Although, I don't really quite like the way Salvatore describes the globe of Darkness "landing" on people, like it fell from the air. I mean, it is creative, but that's not really how it works. It just materializes wherever the caster wants it to appear. So, it would actually be difficult to know that one was coming (especially if a drow is casting it, because there are no components to a spell-like ability), the way it works in D&D.
As a matter of fact, if you don't know that you're in the radius of a Darkness spell, you might think that you've just gone blind.

Um...actually my friends play--my dad banned me from playing it. I learned about D&D from listening and talking to them....I gave them some really odd ideas to use.... sweatdrop

Well, apparently a while back some kids were playing "live" (meaning you actually act out everything, but with safety in mind). Unfortunately things got out of hand and one of the kids committed suicide or something like that because his character got killed. Although, it may have been one of the other players killing him; I don't really know. I've only heard the story from my mom, who was, at first, skeptical about me playing. I really don't see why though because it was because these kids were playing live and being particularly stupid that bad things happened. But parents should be able to trust their kids...
But now I've been playing for like, 5 or 6 years. And nothing has ever happened.

I don't know....I mean I wouldn't mind playing it, but all my friends who play it are now going to school out of town.
Hane, I remember something about that and also something a couple years ago about kids killing themselves via strangling themselves....I forget what it was called.

Yeah... well, parents these days just think that world's gotten worse than when they were kids, and seem to expect everything to go wrong.
You could always try to find other people who play.

I like seeing how the conversations on the internet get off track more than the actual conversations. Oh well, I guess I will add my 2 cents of memories from this, I was playing magic the gathering with a bunch of my friends and we were having a big match. My friend pulled out his best card, it was like a 6,6 flying and had pretty much everything on it, and some guy randomly walked over grabbed a bunch of the cards plus that card, and my friend nearly killed himself because he had payed way to much for it.

Anyway back to the topic. About Drizzt's drow power....I think that if he was able to keep his temporary floating, that would've been awesome
