Cain sighed, it wasn't like Riff to be late with his early morning tea. The young earl sat up in bed, absentmindedly scratching the side of his nose. Where could Riff be? He was usually in the room the moment Cain woke up.
"Riff?" Cain said softly, a yawn escaping his mouth a moment afterward.

A giggling could be heard outside the door to Cain's bedroom, as Mary Weather threw open the door.
"Morning Brother!" She grinned almost suspiciously.

"Good morning, dearest sister. Would you mind finding Riff for me? He hasn't come to my room yet," Cain said, smiling at the exuberance of his sister. The lord leaned his back against the bed, covering up the visible scars before Maryweather could see them. He also pulled up his sheets, covering up a larger area of his bare chest.

"Oh! I came in to let you know," she started as she turned to walk out of the room, "Riff said he had something to do this morning. He would have told you himself... But you sleep like a rock!"
Maryweather left the room, closing the door behind her.

Cain grumbled about the incompetence of servants as he got out of bed after Maryweather had left. He pulled on the nearest white shirt he could find, his fingers fumbling with the buttons.
"This would be so much easier with Riff here," Cain sighed as he pulled on a pair of black pants. Cain leaned down to tie his shoes and noticed that the process took longer when he did it than when Riff did it. The young lord slid a brush through his black hair grimacing when it hit an untidy bunch. Once the whole grooming process was through he left his room and found Maryweather.
"So little princess, what got you up earlier than me?"

Maryweather turned to Cain. She shrugged lightly.
"No, reason... I mean, you are taking me to the circus today right? I wanted to make sure I was ready!" She grinned excitedly.

"Umm..."Cain stalled, not sure what to say. The fact that he was supposed to take Maryweather to the circus that day hadn't even crossed his mind.
"How can we go if Riff isn't here to accompany us?" Cain asked. It was partially true, even though it was a tool for wasting time.

Maryweather became angry.
"Do you need him to do everything for you?!" She glared at Cain, pouting as she normally did when she was angry. "I'll just go myself!"
She turned her back to him and stomped towards the front door.

Cain stood there for a moment, completely astonished by her behavior. Once he regained his composure he rushed over to his sister, gripping her wrist tightly.
"Maryweather, you are not allowed to leave this house without a proper escort. Riff is needed as a bodyguard so that you will not be injured. I do not wish to use my pistol in public," Cain whispered in her ear. He let go of her wrist, bringing his now free hand to his forehand to bat away a straying lock of hair.
"We can still go, I just need Riff so I know that every problem we might encounter will be solved quickly and immediately without harm to anyone in the party."

Maryweather continued to glare at Cain, but after a few moments of thinking she sighed. She knew she couldn't convince him, especially if he was concerned for her safety. She was just like a doll to him anyways.
She changed her tactics quickly, "Fine. I'll wait." She crossed her arms.

"Good," Cain replied, a smile settling on his face. If he could just keep her happy until Riff got back then all would go according to plan.
"Since that's settled, how about some breakfast?" the young earl asked, guiding his sister towards the kitchen.

She grinned since she was starving, and walked into the kitchen. On the way she began listing things she was hungry for, the main thing being sweet pastries.

Cain smiled fondly at Mary, and reminded her that a breakfast couldn't consist entirely of sweets.
"But maybe you could ask Riff to make you a cherry cake once we get back from the circus," Cain added quickly. They arrived at the kitchen to see several cooks running about, making several different dishes.
"Are we having someone over for dinner that I don't remember?"

Mary watched the cooks, "Well you have people over all the time. I've stopped keeping track..."
She reached towards a tray one of the cooks happened to be carrying and snagged several pieces of fruit from it.
