I am having trouble finding a good writing software that I can use, and afford. My computer doesn't have Microsoft Word, and I can't afford it. The prices are ridiculous.

Anyway, I downloaded several free programs until I found one called "Angel Writer" So far, it's been great except for a few things:

-It doesn't let me change the default font. It comes with Times New Roman (yuck!) as the default and I want to change it but I can't.
-It has no spellchecker.
-It has no word count.
-It has no pages.

So it's a lot like notepad. But the difference is, the program will let you change the font, and I can use bold and italics and it saves it as any file type I want. I prefer this to Microsoft Works Word Processor, which doesn't work for me at all, because on Works the spacing is messed up for all of my writing when I upload it to a site, or when I copy and paste.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is... I need a better writing program. Word and Works are out. Does anyone know of anything ELSE I can use? Preferably with something that doesn't screw up my spacing, and has word count and spellchecker. Separating it into pages would be nice too. There may not be such a program, I don't know. It just seems like everyone I know that writes knows something I don't.

Thanks in advance. ^_^

Well nevermind, actually I've found some great software on my own. I know everyone else mostly uses microsift word but my free trial time with word is up. I called the company and they don't sell it individually, so they said I would have to buy it for $100! I'm sorry, but screw that! It's a rip off.

Anyway... I was using Angel Writer which is a decent excuse for a fancy style notepad basically. But I kept looking and downloading something called Atlantis. it's a really great word processor. I finally have something that spell checks and does word and page counts for me! So no more confusion! YAY!

Yes, I would recommend this software to anyone. It's awesome. And best of all, it's FREE! But then it costs $35 to buy it. But to me $35 is WAAAAYYYY better than the $100 rip off. 3nodding Just thought I'd let everyone know, just in case.

And it's decent, too. I use it, now.
Since Works has a very expensive price and is mean.

I downloaded OpenOffice, and it's not that bad, really.
It does get the job done, and it doesn't cost anything.

Just don't get some major writing software, free of charge.
Like yWriter. That really doesn't help at all.
