Got out the Sculpey for the first time in a while and I'm remembering how bloody difficult it is to de-texturize it- I have a very additive and subtractve process, which gives everything little lines. Here's my WIP shots:

Is there any advice on smoothing out these tiny lines that develop? I've just been going over it with a metal knitting needle, but if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

General crit is quite welcome too, as are ideas for the base- pondering a brick texture or something, but I don't know if it fits the character (Kuwabara from YuYu Hakusho.)

depends on what type of sculpey you're using.

try wetting your fingers and using them to smooth it out.

though i've only worked with sculpey iii. i don't know if it would work with super sculpey.

Actually, it's just plain old Sculpey.

And I'm just sanding/carving now that it's baked. A little more slicey, but simpler.

(Also, Sclupey III is water soluble? O__O Cool. )

      oh, it's already baked?
i thought you meant before baking, sorry.

i use a low-powered handheld buffer (the kind used for watch repair) for smoothing clay once it's been baked.
fast & easy to use. c:

I did mean before baking in the first post. But I went ahead and baked it. :B It's all sanded and carved and baked again and sanded and carved again. Just hafta paint it now.

(A buffer sounds a lot better than the scraps of fine sandpaper I was using, though.)
