Many people struggle to flesh out their sentences, making longer posts out of what can be rather short and to-the-point. This lesson will work to improve people's ability to write lengthy sentences by advising them on methods which they can use. Keep in mind that there can be many other ways, but these are just a few to get you started.
One thing to keep in mind is movement. When a person is talking, they are not necessarily immobile. If someone is speaking to a superior or someone dangerous, they may show hesitation or fear while talking. As a result, their hands mey tense up, or they could be shifting weight from one foot to another in an attempt to distract themselves. Mentioning these things can be used to lengthen posts that are purely based in conversation. Even the smallest movement is something more to say.
EX: "Things are just fine." She lied, as her thumbs twiddled nervously.
Second, thought can be played upon as well. You could be thinking about what you plan to do next, your impressions of the person, or anything that could be related to what you are currently doing. This can help to build a character's personality, as you see how they think when interacting with another person.
EX: "Things are just fine." She lied, as she avoided staring at the man who terrified her so greatly.
Finally, description once again plays a role. Sentences can be made longer simply by taking the time to explain what something or someone looks like. The combination of these three working together can make for lengthy paragraphs, much greater than the straightforward sentences.
EX: "Things are just fine." she lied, twiddling her pale colored fingers nervously, as she avoided eye contact with the bulky, powerful man who terrified her so greatly.
