I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in The Planeswalkers Pub (Chatters & Discussions). I guess if it needs moved there I can move it ^__^
So do you play the theme decks? If you do, do you keep the as they came or take them apart to make your own? What's your favorite theme deck and why?
For me I like to play them and then change them by adding my own cards to them and taking some out. My favorite theme deck so far has to be the Chandra Theme deck that came in the Jace Vx. Chandra duel deck. The why is easy for me, because the Chandra deck is pretty much the built the same way as I build my own biggrin ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~S&N Now and Forever~ ~Play Trivial Pursuit here and win awesome prizes!~ ~M.T.G. You might want to call them "pre constructed" decks (pre lowyn starters) or "duel decks and intro packs" (names currently in use) since "theme deck" usually refers to player built decks with non mechanical themes.
Anyway: I wouldn't ever keep a prebuilt deck together. Even the new duel decks (though they are an awesome innovation for casual players) have an awful lot of suboptimal cards. The closest I'd come is buying 2 or more of a given deck and doubling up on the decent cards to come up with something playable. The Jace vs Chandra deck seems like it would be good for that though I haven't bought one.
I do have 2 copies of the Divine vs Demonic deck on pre order. Given that white Akromas cost $10-12 a piece, getting one plus, hopefully, some other decent cards for $15 is a pretty good deal.
The Planar Chaos decks were particularly good examples of well constructed starters. Endless March (R/W with a gating (creatures that return creatures to your hand when they come into play) theme) more so than the rest. The EM deck was both fairly playable, interesting, and fun.
The duel decks are one of the few of the new ideas coming out of wizards that I actually like. Given that prebuilt decks mainly appeal to casual players and most casual players don't play rotating formats, selling prebuilt decks that showcase cards from earlier in magic history makes plenty of sense. It also makes for better overall decks. Unfortunately, I've yet to see a duel deck in a physical store.
Not sure what I think about the intro packs. I don't like the idea of selling 40 card decks when the constructed minimum is 60. It gives new players the wrong idea. Otherwise, though, they seem quite well put together. Their manabases are rather more stable than prebuilt decks usually are, esp for 3 colors.

Prior to the Intro decks, I would play a pre-con a few times, and then decide if I wanted to improve upon it's theme, or deconstruct it for parts.
Currently, I do the same thing, though my fiance' and I are buying the Duel Decks, and leaving them as is to use when we have guests who play, but don't have decks. ("So, do you want to play Elves, Chandra, Jace, Goblins?"... of course in April I can add Divine and Demonic to that lol)

Goblin duel deck for Christmas in 2007 along with other cards and other presents, but some stole the package from my mailbox sad I hope to one day get the Elves Vs. Goblin again. Are the decks fun to play?
@epiclevelwarrior I wasn't sure what to call the thread actually. I was a bit out of it when I posted that yesterday. *has a lot on her mind right now* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~S&N Now and Forever~ ~Play Trivial Pursuit here and win awesome prizes!~ ~M.T.G. I tend stay away from theme. Here lately I just haven't liked the way that they have been put together. I going to buy the Divine vs Demonic...might buy 2 and keep one as is. But not only does tyhe Akroma worth it...but can you Demonic Tutor? biggrin Hopefully they don't put terrible art on it.

Demonic Tutor? Have you seen an official card list? If not, I'd be uninclined to believe that one. They didn't put Lightning Bolt in the Jace v Chandra deck I don't see them putting Demonic in the D/D deck.
It would be awesome but I don't see it.
I'm pulling for Wrath of God and Damnation but I don't see those either.
EDIT: Ok, I just checked MTGSalvation and saw the rumor thread.
They're basing this on the release of promotional wallpaper for the product featuring Demonic Tutor.
That seems pretty solid. I guess I'm really glad I preordered 2 copies.
Of course that pretty much kills any chance of WoG and Damnation. That'd make the equivelent value of the deck around $50 which is just crazy.
Ah well. I have two decks that will love the tutor.

I buy precons for parts usually. I have a ton of decks for people to choose from if they don't feel like playing their own decks. As for actual themes, I have a few themed decks. I have a W/G Clash Deck, which is a lot of fun to play, a Mono W Holy Deck, and a Mono B Ad Nauseam deck. Most of my other decks don't have straight forward themes like those decks do.
Divine vs. Demonic comes out on my birthday.

I usually don't, but I got the Jace v. Chandra Duel Deck and it was worth it I think. Planning on getting Angelic v. Demonic when it comes out.

I usually look at the setlist on the products page at WOTC:MTG twisted then build my own and add my own goodies to it....sometimes I'll by the deck just to get a base to start the madness ^^()

I really have to give my thumbs up to theme decks. I started with one, and honestly, they're much better to learning to play with then starter decks. Starter decks are just to basic.
As for dismantleing, I try to avoid it when at all possible. Adding and subtracting as needed are fine, but for total dismantle I try not to if I think the deck is salvageable.

I love my Sidestep deck, I changed it up a bit with some more draw power off mulldrifter's and added in some other cards which have made it amazing.
