According to this article on AnimeNewsNetwork, a Hollywood remake of Death Note may be in the works.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

What would you like the movie to be about, who would you like to play the characters, etc.?

Personally, I'd love to see a movie about or including the second arc/Wammy's House. Mello, Matt, Near, SPK... all of these characters are American/European anyway. Heck, even L is mostly European, only 25% Japanese, I believe. I think they could pull off a Hollywood remake pretty accurately. (Assuming they stay relatively true to the characters, story, etc. and don't go on an editing spree.)

But even if the Hollywood version does butcher the original series, I think it will be extremely amusing and interesting to see the new movie, so I'm super excited and hope they really do make it.

I don't really care who they cast as long as they can act and look like the characters (or are made-up to look like the characters).

How about you guys?

Me too; I'd so be at the theaters opening night!

They'll probably cast relatively unknown actors, rather than the super big stars. But I'd rather have a bunch of unknowns who can act than Lindsay Lohan as Misa, personally. That would be a pretty scary movie. XD

I really hope they choose to do the Near/Mello arc! It definitely hasn't been shown enough love outside of the manga. Plus, if Matt got a bigger part... I would die of happiness.

Ooh, I would love to see a live-action film (or an anime) based on BB! I wonder why they haven't tried to adapt that yet... it is ripe for the picking, and it would be totally badass.

i would love it if trhey did the near mello arc. and the los angelas BB case would be a cool movie too.
i heard somewhere that they were trying to get Zac Effron as Light....despite the highschool musicalyness he does look abit like him....
but mostly unknowns would be better

saying that Zac Efron is Kira.

i like your bb ppic and i heard a rumor about Zac effron playing Light. He actually does look like light. My friend said something funny. like ashley tisdale playing misa.

I'm totally for a Hollywood remake!! (so long as they stick to the original story line)

I point out the word REMAKE, which most likely means that they'll just redo the orginal films with Western actors/actresses and change it some.

For that reason, I'm unsure about this film. I'm hoping it will be good but...yeah.

As for perhaps Zac Efron playing Light...he is a good actor, I think his HSM fame has just gotten him a reputation for starring in crap films. If he could play Light right then I wouldn't mind.

Unknown actors would be preferred though.

As soon as I read this in my head I screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~!" Because in my opinion Hollywood F-s everything up that they wanna 'Remake' not originally made in the country. I'm sooo scared of what there gonna do because some of the good directors go on 'editing sprees' As you said and make it crap. And the bad Directors pick horrible people and just do crap and butcher the poor Series.

I would probably Cry if this became true. But at the same time if they do a Great job I will take this back.

Because There have been occasionally good stuff to come out of the feared 'Remakes,' but I haven't seen much good. But that's just my crazy opinion. I've never really been a huge fan of the movies to begin with, their good But I wouldn't own them.

The only one I might own is L changed the world, but that's with different actors and different director. I'm only hoping this is better. But I'm already sad about Near being Taiwanese with Black hair.

I mean NEAR with BLACK hair?! Ughh... So that's my take.

I'm not really up for it being made. But you do have a good point, as long as the characters are true and it sticks to the story. I guess it is probably to see it first before judging it. Mew.
