I was thinking of getting a small tattoo behind my ear. I figure that it would give me a KILLER headache... has anyone had experience with a tattoo in this area? what do you think of tattoos behind the ear?

I haven't gotten one, but I am in the same boat as you.... thinking about it, but worried about the headache. A coworker of mine at Panera Bread has a really pretty design behind and outlining her ear... she doesn't really like talking about her tats for some reason though (go figure). I think the noise of the gun would bother me more than the pain.... As to what I think about tats behind the ear, depending on the design I think they are adorable and flattering. All depends on what the design is!

YAY! I'm the first to post who has one. Behind my ear was the first tattoo I got...actually it's the only one I've got at the moment. I was told it was going to be painful by tones of people before I got it. The first person I asked had one behind her ear and she had said it didn't hurt. My ink artist told me the same and surprisingly it was painless!! Though it did hurt a bit after the touch-up on it, but that's because it's scar tissue you're going over. Other than that, it's not a bad place to be inked.

Heh, Panera Bread...never knew what the hell the place was until I moved to Ohio.

As far as tattoos behind the ears go, I've heard both sides of the coin as far as pain and such go. For some, it feels akin to nothing at all, but for others its a cutting pain that shoots straight to the brain and then some.

Just as any other tattoo goes, its all dependent on how the client is when it comes to pain and their physical anatomy (placement of nerves/tendons/etc.)

My daughter has one behind each ear and she didn't mind the pain and didn't get a headache. She said it wasn't bad at all and she doesn't have a high tolerance for pain.

I have one, and all I can say is it hurts less then the foot.
But seriously I didn't think it was bad at all, just strange.

i'm not sure if this counts as behind the ear, nor am i sure this is an issue anymore... however i got this done:

Its not directly behind the ear, but it IS slightyl above and behind the ear... all i can say is that no migraines resulted from this tattoo (and i'm severely prone to migraines), and it really didn't hurt anywhere except on the hairline because it would pull the hair that wasn't shaved. besides that, it really didn't hurt. it was done in about three hours with one break so we could smoke.

pain is relative. if you really want something, you'll find a way to deal with the pain. everyone thought i was gonna have to be held down to get my head tattooed and i was just fine.
