I don't really have anything for scale, but she only weighs about two pounds. She doesn't mind being handled. I bought her just because i fell in love with her feathers. I ought to get a rooster to match, so that we can have more of them. I wish I could remember what she was.

It turns out that Lady Hawk is a Antwerp Belgium Quail Bantam, or Barbu d'Anvers (pronounced danvers). Most people call this breed a d'Anvers, with the Belgium Quail being the color variety. And here is our newest hen. She hasn't been named yet.

Our three baby chicks, sometimes known as Diddles or Bitties, depending on where you are. An actual decent shot of the silkie bantams. They need a bath, so they aren't very photogenic at the moment. Popeye, the black Dutch bantam. And finally, the ducks we got for Mom today.

Ducks! Smelly critters but the most fun of the feathered fowl imao (at least when you give them a clean kiddie pool!) wink

CHICKS!!! My parents used to nag at me for carrying them everywhere (they were so cute) and so when they grew up they would fight to sit on your shoulder whenever you visited the coop. whee It scared visitors since whenever you opened the door 4 or 5 chickens would come flying at you! rofl

Nat, if you check the zoning laws, some places allow hens but no roosters, and bantams can be kept indoors with no one the wiser. I had one of the older chicks sitting on my head a little while ago. I'm glad she didn't feel like pooping while she was there. She likes to nibble on my hair.

I have quite a few mallards who live in the river about 400 meters behind my house so ducks are nothing special to me. I like Lady Hawk too. Quite a pretty bird.

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate having neighbors? They decided they didn't want "farm animals" in a "subdivision" so they made us get rid of all our outdoor animals. xp We still have Lady Hawk and the bunnies, but everything else had to go to Mom's farm. That was one hellish trip. It took eight ours to get there, because we had to avoid the interstate. For some reason, there are laws saying which animals can be transported across state borders. Even though animals can be shipped anywhere on a big rig. neutral

I have a little rooster for my d'anvers hen now. I no sooner got him than my hen got sick though. She fell off the perch and hurt her leg, so she refused to eat or drink for a couple of days. She is improving now, but she is still spraddle legged, and I don't know what I can do for that. Mom says she might recover on her own.
