I have lots of 17 year old friends who have tattoos.
So how old do you have to be?

Most places it is 18. Younger than that and in some places you can still get one with your parents permission.

in the US it's governed by state laws so it varies a lot over the country. most states seem to favor 16 with parental permission and 18 without. but, i have heard of states (south Carolina in particular) that make you wait till your 21.
