Welcome Aboard!
This is your captain speaking, welcoming you aboard the canon-liner Lupin/Tonks. That's right folks, this ship has been certified 100% sea-worthy by the great J.K. Rowling herself. Despite claims to the contrary, none of the ship's parts are too old, too poor, or too dangerous. Those of you still unsure might perhaps consider that she has just returned from an eventful maiden voyage through the treacherous waters of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which sunk such famed (if rather battered) ships as the Harry/Hermione. The Remus/Sirius was declared missing in those treacherous waters--unsurprisingly, as it lost first-mate Black on its previous voyage--but search parties still believe there is some hope for that renowned vessel. Visitors from other ships are asked to be polite and always give good reasons for questioning the ship's design. Now, if you would follow me, I will take you on a tour of the vessel.
The introductory post will be updated with any announcements--special ship activities, ship news, and the like. A ship's roster can be found in post one, for those who wish to know the crew. The Deck is located in post two. Here you can relax with a nice fanfiction or, if you prefer activity, a rousing essay. The Cabins in post three have been decorated with fine works of art, courtesy of the 'ship's fans. Finally, contests and other fun evening activities can be found in post four, the Dining Hall.
10/24/05 The thread opens! Yes, Joie has gone crazy--er, crazier. She has no clue why she themed the thread this way. Thread was initially constructed because Joie needed a place to talk about Lupin/Tonks in detail. Detractors are welcome, but all posters are asked to be courteous.

This is an amazing thread. Very creative, Joie. 3nodding I like the Remus/Dora 'ship because Dora seems to need someone to take care of her, and Remus, being older, and so nice, is a very good person to fill that role. And also, because I love the Sirius/Remus 'ship as well (thanks to some excellent fanfics I have had the pleasure of being exposed to, Map Makers, Shoebox Project, and Remmie's final fantasy-style fic, mainly), I think that he is in need of someone to take his mind off Sirius's loss. Not that I'm saying Dora is a rebound, but being with her will hopefully occupy him to that purpose.
Lesser men would have killed themselves in his position.
He was bitten by a werewolf and grew up with the pain of transformations, the fear of discovery, the shame of what he was, and god knows what else; one of his best friends, his wife, and son are murdered, supposedly by his other best friend/lover; that other best friend/lover supposedly murders another friend, and is sent to Azkaban; Remus struggles for twelve years to find work, and must additionally suffer the guilt of mourning for his best friend/lover; his best friend/lover comes back, only to be murdered; the werewolf who bit Remus is at large again and Remus is sent to spy on him; and then, out of the blue, this nice girl falls in love with and wants to be with him.
I think we should be happy for him, supposing, of course, that Tonks doesn't die as well.
And if they do have "multicoloured werewolf puppies", then they'll easily be able to disguise themselves as humans because of their double shape-shifting heritages.

Is it horrible of me to assert that I think the main function of Lupin/Tonks is to prove that Harry's noble reasons for giving up Ginny are crap? (Can I say that here?)

Well, the consensus (in some parts of fandom) seems to be that the Tonks/Lupin pairing was completely arbitrary and out of the blue (I read fanfiction, so I saw it coming!)
But, note, Harry witnesses Fleur refusing to release Bill from their engagement, claiming it will take more than the attack to stop them loving one another. He witnesses Lupin trying to put Tonks off of pursuing him by asserting that he's too dangerous to her, and Harry very closely echoes Lupin's speech when he "dumps" Ginny. He also sees Tonks and the Weasleys pooh-pooh Lupin's concerns as a "ridiculous" excuse; Molly comes near to admitting that her own (successful) marriage was a rushed affair entered into during the heat and terror the last war. McGonagall stands, in Harry's hearing, and declaims that "Dumbledore would have been happier than anybody to think that there was just a little more love in the world." (HBP USHC 624).
Harry's weapon is love. I assert that he needs Ginny (he needs fuller experience of more than just family and friendship love) in order to defeat Voldemort. The book ends with two new(ish) relationships that coulda/woulda/(probably)shoulda ended, both "for some stupid, noble reason" (in Gin's words), but they didn't. I think those were some very knock-over-the-head examples being set for Harry (and ignored by him....grrr. Oblivious boy!).

Fantastic Beasts seems to shut down the multicolored werewolf pups theory: "Humans turn into werewolves only when bitten." (page 41)

I believe that the Lupin/Tonks ship was so forseen throughout the 6th book... jsut little inferences Molly made when discussing Remus or Tonks... and Harry is a dumb nut and should never have given up Ginny... they will be back together... jsut wait... J.K. will not disappoint...

The whole Lupin/Tonks ship was brushed upon a lot during the 6th book, but I didn't quite see anything of the sort in the 5th book (Finishing a sentence off for someone doesn't mean you fancy them). If you read the 6th book you'll see that Lupin tries to avoid the subject, and I believe it is because the poor man does not return the same feelings for Dora (Tonks).
The hospital scene could be either a joyous scene for Lupin/Tonks shippers, but I however think that Lupin was desperately trying to shake her off. After all, he put himself down, didn't look at her, and I could see that as a way to sort of 'get her off his back'.
Holding hands could be the thing that confuses me. They could either have got together, or he obviously explained the situation to her and they were friends.
