Has it ever bothered you that people don't seem to read, or that books are going to become obsolete in a few years?

I know it makes me so mad that I could hit a kid (for those of you that know me, you understand how pissed I'd have to be to even consider that...) because girls here are bubble-headed idiots. (Oh god, the prettyspeak... It's starting again. x_X) People look at me like I'm off-the-wall-insane because I read for FUN.

Le gaspeth! It's insane, isn't it? The mere notion that not too long ago people would READ?

What do you think kids did before video games on a rainy day? Well, good sir, we read, did those dreaded chores, and probably played baseball using mother dearest's finest vase as home, imported china for second, and the cat as third.

It frustrates me to no end when girls look me straight in the eye and tell me they "won't read" and have more important things to do, such as "watching tv."

Because mind-numbing shows like "Deal or No Deal" and "The Hole in the Wall" are truly what man was meant to waste his braincells on. Heaven forbid that teenagers should spare just a few minutes a day attempting to further their education and gather just a scrap or two of info for fun.

Has it ever irritated any one of you what our generation is becoming? Has it ever scared you (just think, those idiots are our Future). What are your views on books becoming obsolete?

I have to second this. Books are becoming outdated - and I don't like it.

Lets get this straight - I play games. I browse the net. I watch so much anime that by all rights I should know Japanese by now. However I still love to curl up with a good book above all else. There's just nothing like it.

I think this sums it up best.

Well, it's certainly a pain in the a** that in mainstream, people are ditching books... But I happen to know that it's not going on with everyone. As a matter of fact, I don't think I know anyone (At least by name) who would turn down the chance to read a good book. n-n

I toss my hats off in this bin too.

I play games, watch anime, surf the net for ungodly hours...logging on far too often, and heaven forbid....I watch tv every now and then...because....with my life, mind numbing can sometimes be a GOOD thing.

But, I don't read a lot anymore. I've read all the things I like in my house. All the books that BELONG to me are well read by now. Okay, so there is an ungodly amount of manga in here out weighing the books...but I used to clock some serious time in books.

It really and truly irks me that I haven't had the TIME to read. I've been bogged down with books for my English class for the last 2 full years at least. The summer after 9th grade was my first summer assignment....and I've had reading assignments since then....the entire time. I can't say that I always enjoy atrocities such as The Scarlet Letter or the like. (If I have to read Romeo and Juliet one more time....*growls*) I make a point to NOT read more than one book at a time...it's just a pet peeve. So, thus, I have not had the time to really read anything. Buuuut...this summer...I INTEND TO READ WHAT I LIKE AND 'TIL MY HEART'S CONTENT.

Anyway, I hate it when people are like that. At my school, they're all concerned with fashion and all that crap. (Okay...you liked that...I'm sorry....but I um...don't.) <.< They wouldn't touch a book if it bit them on the butt. I'm gonna be one of those people that hoard books should they stop making them. I will BUY them on the BLACKMARKET if I have to. :3 Anyway, rant end. <.<

*nod nod* Playing outside is become lost also.

And yush, I am a gamer and whatnot. But plainly I find it mildly hillarious but extremely sad that my generation is the 'M' generation-- literally the 'media multitaskers', and sadly appropriate.

But Tsu and I used to live a couple of miles from one another out in the middle of nowhere, we used to hike, explore, find secret places in the woods to call our own. (Yay Atlantis Island! Right sis? XD) People are slowly drifting away from outdoor games though... as am I. Though I find it hard to adjust learning to be outside in town when till 2 years ago I had always been in the forests... that's just me.

BOOKS!! *book worm* *gathers up books* Read NISIOISIN!! He's amazing... heart heart heart

Lol i agree actually.

I do read as well, but only when im done with a series.
I think people (mostly teens) only read Twilight cause everyone else was. People should be examples so more can read and understand its not anything new or *nerdy*.

I think people who read are more mature.

and as well with the future thing, this is how technology and futuristic things come to be because of the fact nobody wants to sit around and read, now-a-days i guess we base ourselves on flying cars and better sound systems, game systems..

But i agree, people should read more, only i have no idea how thats gonna change.. : (
