So, what do you prefer: original stories or fanfiction? wink

Personally I prefer to read and write fanfiction. It is neither for "tweenies" nor lame. If that is what you think then you must have read only the lowest quality of fanfiction. If I thought you'd take the advice I'd list a few quality fics and where to find that but that would probably be in vain.

i write originals and read them as well. I don't know about fanfictions though, i cant write them for some reason. i think it's a subconscious thing in my head. but i love reading them and their are some great ones out there. I haven't read any lately though.

I prefer original fiction, but I have nothing against fanfiction... if someone wrote a fanfic set in a world I made up I think it would be the greatest compliment. I tried to write a fanfic once but it died pretty quickly cause I find I just can't attach myself to a world that isn't of my own devising long enough to write a story set in it. Plus I always feel guilty messing with someone else's characters...

High quality fanfiction rocks. I read more fanfics than original, but I write more original than fanfics. In fact, I've never even written a fanfic.

I like making my own characters, but I also enjoy seeing what makes a crappy wannabe-the-real-thing character in a fanfic so bad. It helps a lot with my writing, lol. Thanks to all the crappy fanfics! I also think that reading them's fun since you'll never ever see the movies/books the same way again. xd

I used to write only fanfiction, then more original work than fanfiction, and now I don't write fanfiction at all. I just find that there's so much more I can do with original characters. I have ideas for two fanfics that I'd like to one day write, but they're not my priority.

I have been working on a Digimon fanfic since middle school. It's the only story I've ever written which has been through more than one complete re-write, and I think the fact that it's a fanfic rather than an original story may have something to do with it, though I'm not sure what.

I'm an FF writer myself. wink Just tried to get some attention by going for the 'irritating provoking title'-technique.

If done right, fanfiction can be as challengine as origional stories. With origional stories, you can change the characters and the plot any way you want to fit your needs. With fanfiction, you have set-in-stone characters and a basic plot that can not (well, should not anyway) be altered, making it mroe challenging.

Also, it's fun! ^^

I don't write fanfiction at the moment, preferring original (although I have three fics planned sometime in the future); I've got 52 fics under my belt.

I've never tried my hand at fanfiction. Dunno whether I'm going to or not, because taking someone else's characters isn't my cup of tea.

Despite that, I've read both good and bad, just like any other type of literature.

I started up at fanfiction and then went on to original, but I heard the fight of 'fanfiction is for those who have no inspiration and originals are much harder' quite often. I think I like both equally, but on the net I tend to read more fanfiction 'cause of the sheer fact that I'm way too impatient to wait for a next original chapter. ^^; I always forget who the characters are after a while... With fanfiction, you already know the characters, setting, etc, so there it's not a problem.

Okay, okay, I'm being facetious, and hurting my brain. Ow. Honestly, II ahve no problem with fanfiction. I've written a bit of it but have never been able to actually finish a piece. Though, I do read more fanfiction on the net than I do original fiction. It just seems to fit better.

I think it was already summed up quite nicely:
