If anyone has ever tried tracing their family line then they know how frustrating it can be.
So anyone have suggestions on how to go about something like this more easily? Please include links to sites that will help us to find out more about our ancestors.

I haven't gotten around to tracing my family back though I plan to in the future but my mom does a lot of this. A big thing to know is where your family came from. There are also some groups online that can help. Whenever I get ahold of my mom I'll ask her for some suggestions. If you're looking outside the U.S. I don't know if she can help but if you're looking in Illinois or Michigan she can defiantly give some good tips.

I traced my fathers line all the way to the 1600s in Holland. Last date I see was 1679. But the names go back a bit further and the last name changes from Van Dolah our spelling to Vandolder.
